Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, Elmo, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

??! Valium - Why would Cheerful not be allowed to brush the girl's hair in the UK? Confused

Cheerful that must be hard for you to see on an ongoing basis. :(

CheerfulYank · 22/12/2011 18:48

Maybe at a bigger school here I wouldn't be able to either. I almost got in trouble once for clipping a student's fingernails.

It's all bureaucratic stuff, what is someone's job, what isn't. I remember people fluttering around saying "oh well, we will need to get a hygiene plan set up with the school nurses' signature, and then send a copy to her parents, and maybe get the funding for a staff member to spend an extra 15 minutes a day helping her brush it..." and I was like, "right well, while you're all f*%king about, I'm going to plait the kid's hair, all right?!"

I have a lot of patience generally, but very very little when it comes to that sort of thing. Xmas Smile

gomummygo · 22/12/2011 18:55

Wow, I had no idea it would be that bureaucratic to provide a child with some basic care like that. That's really quite sad. :(

CheerfulYank · 22/12/2011 18:59

Doesn't usually...there are always a few stubborn persistent people like me around. Things get done. Xmas Grin

valiumredhead · 22/12/2011 19:00

Oh you're not even allowed to tuck a kid's shirt in here, or help them with sun cream, or clean them up if they poo themselves, or check for nits - the list is endless.

ElmosChristmasWish · 22/12/2011 19:05

Shock, especially @ not helping with sunscreen!

valiumredhead · 22/12/2011 19:23

Teachers/assistants can squeeze the suncream on to the child's hands but the child must rub it in.

Yes I had a LOVELY time thank you :) x

CheerfulYank · 22/12/2011 19:30

Hope you are all having a great time preparing and are as stress-free as possible!

valiumredhead · 23/12/2011 17:21

Awww I love tickly baby giggles :)

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 23/12/2011 19:38

DD named her "Amber" she's already been introduced. It would be impossible to collect or hide her in a 2 bed flat and as a single mum. They've both been with me non stop since the holidays started.

DS has decided to sleep on his floor tonight and has placed his pillow and duvet there, wonder how long it will last Hmm

CheerfulYank · 23/12/2011 22:02

Does DD just love her, Tea ? :)

Awwww...baby laughs! So cute.

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 23/12/2011 22:10

Yes but I have to keep explaining about not frightening her by talking loudly, tapping on cage etc, she just wants to chat and play with it but it sleeps a lot in the day which makes her fed up. Wide awake now of course, chewing bars Hmm

It bit DS this evening but he'd just eaten and his hands probably smelt of dinner quite strongly. He put his finger in the cage and she bit. Lots of blood from such a small nip. He was most upset and told it it was naughty. Poor boy. He sounded devastated and I bet it hurt.

Off to bed, still snotty and super tired.

valiumredhead · 24/12/2011 10:58

HAPPY CHRISTMAS EVE!!!!!! Grin

I am snotty and streaming too tea I NEVER get colds so this is rotten timing! Hope you feel better soon x

valiumredhead · 24/12/2011 11:01

We tamed our hamster by leaving it to settle for a week - no touching at all. Wash hands BEFORE handling to get rid of food smells. Get a high sided storage box and put some hamster toys in and put your hands down in the box and let the hamster run over your hands. Do this once a day for a week and you will really notice the difference and should be able to handle her.

Females do tend to a bit nippier than the males though.

ElmosChristmasWish · 24/12/2011 12:59
