I am in awe of you GoMummy. My patience cannot stretch that far Blush

Off to bed in a sec. My tummy is not amused at the amount of veg I've consumed in the last 2 days

gomummygo · 30/11/2011 22:21

Oh dear no, no awe called for here, I always think I am shamefully impatient, just have no other choice as no childcare/family/etc.! Blush It's easier to give him a little set of tools and get him to "help" than it is to keep him occupied and be even remotely productive myself! Having said that, he knows how to properly use a studfinder, a level, and sand drywall mud, LOL! Blush

Hope you're feeling better in the morning Tea, what are you doing with all the veg?

Tiredmumno1 · 30/11/2011 22:42

Ooo a blizzard that sounds horrid gomummy

G'night tea Smile

Tiredmumno1 · 30/11/2011 22:51

cheerful have you had a look at the candy etc that your fil gives to ds,i just wondered if it could be affecting his behaviour.

When I was young the doctor and my parents figured out that it was certain foods I ate, it was the E numbers, just the things that contained the E numbers from 1 to E200 would affect me and make me hyper.

Dont know if thats any help but apparently I calmed down alot when the cut them out.

valiumredhead · 01/12/2011 13:40

yanky my ds loves paper too - my front room looks like it's been hit with confetti most days Grin

Your FIL doesn't give ds soda drinks does he? They have SUCH an affect on ds it is untrue so they are banned now he is 10! Actually even ds doesn't want them because they make him feel so rough.

I have just been for an eye test - I need TWO prescriptions, one for close up work and one for driving and distance AND prescription sunglasses for driving!!!! I am still in shock! Shock I also have a headache from the eye test!

Ds is fine now thanks - all better and back to school - it was short lived.

How is everyone? :)

CheerfulYank · 01/12/2011 16:49

I don't know if he's giving him soda or not, but I think he would let DS have some if he asked. Sigh. FIL is a farmer, and DH and all his siblings grew up eating piles of food because they would burn it off on farm chores. So. Hmm

ElmosChristmasWish · 01/12/2011 18:23

Evening all :)

Hope you manage to have a word with FIL Cheerful , I'm sure he will understand that you don't want your ds to eat that much while he is with him . Maybe you could say that you have noticed ds does not want to eat his dinner when he gets home from FIL's and if FIL see's you worrying , well it might help him calm down on the treats

well i have sent off all my Christmas cards this morning so in a very festive mood today Smile < offers Wine >

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 01/12/2011 20:35

Tartrazine and sunset yellow would send me wild as a kid Blush

valiumredhead · 04/12/2011 10:02

Morning!

Look at this! www.bbc.co.uk.dsc.net/dads-launch-class-against-mumsnet.html Shock

ElmosChristmasWish · 04/12/2011 11:29

Shock but loved Justine's quote at the end LOL

" Mumsnet Founder Justine Roberts said: "Fathers have always been welcome on Mumsnet, I even keep one in my own house. I find it very useful for the spiders."

Xmas Grin
valiumredhead · 04/12/2011 12:48

Ha ha ha ha Grin

valiumredhead · 04/12/2011 17:41

Home made rice pudding anyone?....

ElmosChristmasWish · 04/12/2011 18:47

Oh yes please Valium

Are you all having a nice weekend >

CheerfulYank · 04/12/2011 23:55

Best April Fool's joke yet. :o

I love rice pudding, pass 'er here!

I'm having a good weekend. I met a woman in the aisles of Target who was an extreme couponer. I am still amazed by here. She had almost a thousand dollars worth of free Target gift cards! Xmas Shock

DH and I took DS and some of his friends to see Arthur Christmas...what a sweet movie! We loved it. Xmas Smile

valiumredhead · 05/12/2011 07:42

I watch a programme about extreme couponing - it's amazing. We can't do it in the UK as they put a limit on how many special offers products you can buy in one go.

Teaandchristmascakeplease · 05/12/2011 09:55

Just read the article. What a pile of codswallop. There are loads of men on mn now.

gomummygo · 05/12/2011 13:59

Blush I am a bigtime couponer now, but only with things I would buy anyway, iykwim. Not extreme like you see on television, but I do the whole organized couponing combined with sales and specials, order my coupons online and double up where possible, etc. Blush Takes me about 5 mins a week and I save a small fortune. DH used to laugh at me. Then I started leaving receipts for him to see, where it shows original prices and what you paid. Now he has great respect! Xmas Grin I bow down to the woman you met in Target though, Cheerful!

CheerfulYank · 05/12/2011 15:25

It was an April Fool's joke, Tea. :) I remember when it happened otherwise I wouldn't know either!

I've started to branch out gomummy and use coupons for things I wouldn't normally buy, and then find out a way to use them. But I can't bring myself to buy too much pre-packaged junk food, no matter how good a deal it is! DS is such a wild man when he as too much of that stuff.

gomummygo · 05/12/2011 22:31

Ugh I'm with you there Cheerful, very minimal pre-packaged junk food ever seen here! Best deals I use are on things like cleaning products and toiletries, but the best I've seen are for things like frozen veg. Our local hydro utility has some pretty amazing coupons right now, unfortunately they're not for hydro Hmm, rather for hydro-saving things like weatherstripping and CFL bulbs. Hydro is v. expensive here. Like California, I hear, but actually have no idea what theirs is like.

I just have to say, I love the word "codswollop." I don't know what it is, but I desperately want to use it in a rl conversation. For some reason it brings to mind cud (the stuff cattle regurgitate between stomachs). Xmas Grin

CheerfulYank · 05/12/2011 22:52

It is a great word! :)

"That's a load of codswallop!" :o

gomummygo · 05/12/2011 23:00

CheerfulYank · 05/12/2011 23:22

I am such a saddo...I'm going to go shopping soon to get DS some bins and a bulletin board to keep his "work space" organized. And I am so excited. Blush

gomummygo · 05/12/2011 23:32

Ahem...totally NOT sad! I highly recommend a magnetic whiteboard as well. BlushGrin

CheerfulYank · 05/12/2011 23:47

Good idea! We have a little one but a big one would be great.

I really, really want to get things organized around here. Wish you could come help me! Someday I'll have to do a live webcam and you can direct me from the Frozen North :o

gomummygo · 06/12/2011 17:39

Yes, we had the little one that was a half & half with a bulletin board, but it was not big enough for DS to display some of his "work" on. So now have the huge one and it works well.

Have you see the magnetic primer you can buy? Works fairly well under your regular paint. I am also partial to chalkboard paint.

I would LOVE to come and help you! It is quite disturbing how much I enjoy organizing, lol! Blush

Ugh don't remind me about the frozen North, I'm sick of winter already! Xmas Grin
