Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, Elmo, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

Welcome back Izzy, didn't know you were in US? Happy Thanksgiving to you as well! (And any others that celebrate today!)

Welcome Gonzo! Grin

So what has everyone else got planned for the weekend? Does it snow yet where you all are?

CheerfulYank · 25/11/2011 04:36

Ugh. So full. Can't move. May have more garlic-romano potatoes though. :o

How is Vermont Izzy ? I've never been there but always wanted to go. You're just there for a short time?

I am rubbish at computer stuff Valium !

Bummer about DD's scooter Tea. :(

Welcome Gonzo! Stay! Chat! Have some wine! :)

CheerfulYank · 26/11/2011 02:36

Now I'm home at my parents', the five hour car ride is behind me. :)

Teaandcakeplease · 26/11/2011 09:47

5 hours? Yikes!

OP posts:
CheerfulYank · 26/11/2011 16:47

Sigh...yes. It was a pretty uneventful drive though. It's snowing like mad here now!

I took a sauna last night, I forgot how much I missed those! I think we're going to head into the woods today and look for our tree.

Teaandcakeplease · 26/11/2011 17:57

Ooo how lovely Envy I miss having a real tree, they're quite expensive to buy and a pain to put in the stand on your own Not to mention my son is enjoying fiddling with the baubles already since the tree went up a few hours ago. So a real tree will have to wait until maybe next year when he plays with it less?

But I tend to take the decorations down fairly soon after Christmas, so 4 weeks before is perfect. Well for me it is!

gomummygo · 27/11/2011 22:21

Hope you had a great visit Cheerful! Envy @ sauna!

Need ideas for Christmas desserts. Any suggestions? So far it's the "staples" - Pumpkin pie, pecan pie, and little individual cheesecakes. Need something different, iykwim?

CheerfulYank · 28/11/2011 03:19

Hmmmmm....something with peppermint is always Christmas-y? I'll have a think and get back to you. :)

valiumredhead · 28/11/2011 09:33

Ds who is 10 is making Banoffee Pie for Boxing day dessert - he'll be able to make that unsupervised and he is very excited, bless him!

How's everyone? First frost of the year here today, very nippy!

ElmoFan · 28/11/2011 15:14

Desserts mmmmmmmm Pavlova is always on our menu at Christmas time along with cheesecake and sticky toffee Pudding . i must admit though i always buy mine from our local Bakers as it's much nicer than the ones i make at home Blush

valiumredhead · 28/11/2011 15:54

Sorry to hear about DS Valium, hope he is alright. We are all sick too, fortunately it is just a cold here.

I'm childish Just get fed up of these Religious threads on mn. I go to church and I'm fed up of them Grin

Tiredmumno1 · 28/11/2011 21:41

Stop talking about food you're making me hungry Grin

CheerfulYank · 28/11/2011 21:52

Speaking of food...sigh. My FIL watches DS 2-3 days a week because DS gets done with preschool and 10:30 and I don't get done with work until 12. Originally he was going to bring him to our house and just hang out with him for the hour and a half until I got home.

Now FIL has decided to bring DS to their house (which is fine of course) to help him feed the chickens, etc. He has to help out at church a few afternoons a week and doesn't bring DS back until then (understandable, as it is another trip into town) which is usually between 1-4.

It's all lovely and of course I am beyond grateful to FIL. However. DS eats candy all the time he is there and has an ice cream sandwich and/or chips with his meals every time and brings home more candy.

It's a generational thing, FIL is in his late 70's and encourages DS to "clean his plate" and thinks it's wonderful when DS eats and eats and eats.

He's eating way more than he normally would and much more sugar, etc. Grr! I just wanted to vent, I know this is FREE CHILDCARE and I love that they get to spend so much time together, so I would never start a thread about it or anything. I just wanted to complain for a minute. Blush

Tiredmumno1 · 28/11/2011 22:32

Point me in the direction of your fil's house Grin

Just kidding, could you not have a quiet word cheerful and see if he will listen?

gomummygo · 28/11/2011 22:39

Mmm, ideas sound great, thank you all very much!!! DH has suggested that we have a taste test of each next weekend! And thanks for the links to the recipes, Elmo. There are so many out there when you search online but without having tried them it's hard to know which are the "good" ones, iykwim.

You're entitled to complain, Cheerful...when DS has too much sugar he is like the tazmanian devil on speed! Extremely Envy of the childcare though, so nice that he is with his grandfather and you can know he is safe and loved. They must have a lovely close relationship.

valiumredhead · 29/11/2011 08:56

Yanky could you tell a white lie and say ds has been for a dentist check up and you have been told you need to cut down on the number of sweets ds is having?

ElmoFan · 29/11/2011 15:23

OOOh Cheerful , that would drive me mad tbh . I still haven't forgiven dh for buying ds candy floss when he was 7yrs old . Ds was Hyperactive for two full days & nights after eating that stuff . He was twitching & fidgeting and couldn't sleep afterwards Shock

I like Valium's idea about saying the dentist has checked him out etc .

How is your ds feeling now Valium ?

Taste test sounds great gomummy Smile

CheerfulYank · 29/11/2011 19:01

He is being impossible today. :( He's having a screaming fit because he "needs paper!" Well, he used all of it. He draws constantly and is always cutting it up and making projects. It's all gone. Grrrrrr! I'm glad that he's creative but honestly a day's reprieve from all the damn paper EVERYWHERE is going to be great. Sigh...

On the other hand, I think we're going to make this soon...easy and yummy! :)

gomummygo · 30/11/2011 21:58

They look like something I could munch a great deal of, Cheerful! Grin

Blizzard today, have spent the day inside doing major DIY with DS. I've always done it with him and am used to the challenges but today for some reason it has been bloody difficult to do serious DIY with a toddler "helping"!!!
