Totally. :) Well, I do eat oats which some people who are GF stay away from.

I use mixes usually...Gluten Free Bisquik and gluten free cake mixes by Betty Crocker. And there are some yummy gf pastas and breads. There are loads more than there used to be, which I think is in large part because so many kids are autistic or on the autistic spectrum these days :( , and some experts recommend gf/cf diets.

gomummygo · 24/10/2011 02:54

Gluten free Bisquick? I must find it! There is v. little selection where I am for GF diets and my lovely SIL and her children are all GF (hereditary I wonder?) and going to be visiting in the holidays...am already wondering what on earth I will make. Bisquick would open up a world of ideas! Thank you!!!

I have read about that autism connection. In your line of work, I'd be curious to know if you've seen this make a substantial difference for some?

FearfulYank · 24/10/2011 03:32

I haven't personally, but none of the kids I've worked with have been on the diet. I've heard it makes a huge difference for some, though.

Yes, it appears to be hereditary. My mom has it at any rate! :) They sell the GF Bisquick in the stores here but I think you can get it from Amazon. It's been great for me!

valiumredhead · 24/10/2011 09:49

What is Bisquick?

We have quite a lot of GF stuff here now - practically half an aisle in Tescos and GF brownies are sold in the coffee chains.

Morning btw! Grin

FearfulYank · 24/10/2011 18:48

Bisquick is this ... a sort of all around baking mix. You can make dumplings, pancakes, muffins, breading for fried chicken, etc. And biscuits! But our biscuits, not yours. :)

Gomummy let me know if you can find the GF stuff!

gomummygo · 24/10/2011 23:00

Bisquick is magic somehow. With it, I can make those cheese biscuits from Red Lobster that I absolutely cannot duplicate from scratch! Plus sometimes it goes on a great sale price and with a coupon it is almost free, though I doubt they'd do that for the GF version.

I will let you know if I find it, thanks Fearful! Am off to do a shop tomorrow. Have never noticed it in our tiny GF section but am wondering if maybe it's with the regular Bisquick. You have absolutely made my day, there are so many GF things I could make now that I didn't know how to make the crust/breading/etc., for otherwise! :)

Interesting about the heredity thing, SIL (as well as her sister) and her DCs are all GF. I have this strange curiosity about whether we'd all be healthier if we ate GF diets. I've not tried it, but when you think about it, gluten would not be part of the "natural" diet our ancestors would have eaten. Not that I'd want their diet either though, lol!

RedRumElmosMum · 24/10/2011 23:31

Evening all

We are having some very bad weather here today
flash flooding has caused 3 rivers to burst their banks
and one policeman has been swept away Sad .
We have had a months amount of rainfall in the last 24hours.
Dh is working but most of the roads are being blocked off so not sure if he will make
it home at all tonight.

gomummygo · 24/10/2011 23:36

Shock :( Elmo that is awful.

Hope DH's work is somewhere safe that he could stay if necessary?

RedRumElmosMum · 24/10/2011 23:56

Dh is a bus driver so he is stuck out on the roads that are flooded
ATM. Do you have sky news? they are showing some pics of the flooding.

FearfulYank · 25/10/2011 02:23

Oh no Elmo ! That's terrible. :(

RedRumElmosMum · 25/10/2011 11:25

Morning all

Well the weather last night was scary Sad DH got home at 1.30am

1.5 hours after he finished work due to roads being closed off .
Some photo's here of how bad the roads and shopping centres were in some places Shock
www.rte.ie/news/2011/1025/weather_updates_tuesday.html

We have a leak in our roof - water in the attic so will need to call in the professionals to sort that out as soon as it stops raining .

So how is everyone ?

FearfulYank · 25/10/2011 15:34

That sounds awful Elmo ! Glad DH made it home though. Yuck to a leaky roof! I hope it's not too expensive to sort out.

I feel all shaky today...I have been getting terrible headaches and mood swings so I am trying to cut out sugar as much as possible. I didn't realize how much I was eating...oatmeal with dried fruit and honey, a few cups of tea with sugar, coffee with sugary creamer...it adds up! So I'm giving it up for a bit and feel a bit unbalanced today. Sigh.

RedRumElmosMum · 25/10/2011 15:48

{hugs} Cheerful - sorry you are not feeling well lovely xxx Could you take the day off from work and rest up ? offers Brew x

gomummygo · 25/10/2011 18:05

Glad DH got home safe in the wicked weather Elmo. Sorry to hear about the roof though, hope it's a simple fix rather than a whole new roof. Not the best time of year either, hope it's something that you can have done quickly.

Hope the sugar sorts it for you Cheerful. I felt similar a few years ago and had to cut out caffeine, which was awful (for everyone, LOL!) as I was a coffee junkie at that time. I was able to slowly add it back in, but never at the volume I used to consume. Sugar must be tough, it is in so many things you don't even think of.

FearfulYank · 25/10/2011 18:50

I feel a bit better now...really clear headed, actually, which is nice! I feel like I've been in such a fog lately. The book I'm reading recommends lots of protein, complex carbs and vegetables. Also a small potato every night before you go to bed. Confused I love potatoes though, so sounds good to me! We'll see what happens.

gomummygo · 25/10/2011 19:53

That's great Fearful. Loving the small potato before bed idea! Though I'll just bet I'm not supposed to top it with sour cream, chives, melted cheese and bacon? Grin

FearfulYank · 26/10/2011 01:58

Sigh. No, unfortunately! It can't be topped with anything containing protein...so I think it'll be a smidge of olive oil and some garlic salt. And apparently it may give you wild or vivid dreams as your serotonin rebalances or something?! Hmm Potato dreams...now I've heard it all! But I'll do anything if I think it may give me more energy; I've just been a lump lately and there's so much to do.

gomummygo · 26/10/2011 02:57

Ah well, it was worth asking. Grin

Will be curious to know if it works. When I used to do a lot of hiking a lot of people swore by a big bowl of whole wheat pasta the night before a big early morning trek. Wonder if it's the same principle.

IdjustassoonkissaZombie · 26/10/2011 09:31

Wow it's not even 9.30am and I'm talking about fanjo's on mn. LOL

Hope you sleep well Cheerful. I've been going to bed early every night lately and that has made a huge difference to how I feel Wink But I think if I improved my diet that would probably help too.

Michael Buble's Christmas album is coming out and I'm loving all the interviews and clips on his fb page right now. I love that mans voice and I think he's very funny.

valiumredhead · 26/10/2011 12:01

Yanky hope you continue to feel better x

elmo I saw on sky news last night about the floods and thought of you - glad dh is home safely! Shock

gomummygo · 27/10/2011 04:06
Grin

Is everyone recovered from the flooding, Elmo?

Wow I'djustasoon, I must get up at 2am to see what goes on here at 9:30 in the morning your time!!! Grin

Has your headache gone Valium?

FearfulYank · 27/10/2011 05:31

I was on that thread too! :) Very interesting...

No potato dreams to report I'm afraid. Maybe tomorrow?

Rushing around tidying up and trying to get the sawdust all sucked up before DS's friends come over tomorrow to decorate cookies. And then he has Jr. Gym and Tae Kwon Do and I have to work at the theater...busy busy busy! :)

Teaandcakeplease · 27/10/2011 09:53

Next 2 days will be interesing, I've typed about it on the prayer thread. I'll update you all tonight x

FearfulYank · 27/10/2011 09:57

Best of luck Tea darling. We are with you in spirit! That must be hard but I think you are handling everything like a star.

valiumredhead · 27/10/2011 11:59

Have a hug tea x

Hello! Pouring with rain today - hasn't blinking stopped! Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrrr!

Off to the cinema with friends this afternoon, so that'll be fun! :)
