Come hither all those who haven't found their place on mumsnet, have scrapped in Aibu or crossed words in chat. The buddy bench shalt not judge.

The buddy bench will hand out wine and cakes, it will join you on your scoffathons getting pissed

All those who sit on the bench, will have their sins erased and be given a warm welcome and cheerful chat from CheerfulYank, gomummy, tiredmum, Elmo, valiumredhead and far, far too many more to mention.

Welcome to the buddy bench, we look forward to meeting you all Smile

Oh and don't forget, last one to leave polishes bench and locks up!

I know exactly what you mean, i am so tired i am in zombie mode Grin .

gomummygo · 25/09/2011 19:45

Envy Envy your MIL, Tiredmum. I would so love to have that kind of a MIL relationship. Tried so hard for years but have sort of given up now and resigned myself to the way it is. :(

Ok Valium and Tea, now you have to let me know how they taste with this Angel Delight stuff you speak of!

Has it really been a year already Cheerful? Wow that has flown by. Hope your Goddaughter has a lovely first birthday party.

Have a question for the bench - is the Godchildren thing consistent (among the Christian faith obviously)? It seems to be so varied amongst the people I know. I have six Godchildren. One of the sets of parents has also asked me to be Legal Guardian in the event that, God forbid, something happens to them, but this is a separate (legal) responsibility. I recently found out that another set of parents has "assumed" that as Godmother, I'd also be legal guardian, but I certainly don't think that that would be recognized in law unless specified in a will. I know that another set has specifically named someone else (family) for legal guardianship in the even of their death. I know some Christian denominations baptis(z)e, but do not name Godparents. Confused???

Teaandcakeplease · 25/09/2011 19:48

Consistent? Lots of people get their children baptised/ christened despite having no faith and also ask people to be Godparents who have no faith. However I opted for Godparents for my children who had a strong faith and would pray for them lots. As to me being a Godparent should be about God Grin Wink

But to be a legal guardian it needs to be set down in the will I believe. I need to sort my will out and haven't as yet Blush

gomummygo · 26/09/2011 02:13

Oh Tea, if I was up to donning my hard hat, I could start a whole other thread asking about the Godparents-without-faith (is that an oxymoron?) thing, LOL!

Anyway by consistent, I mean do most people assume that Godparents are also going to be legal guardians? I have the legal guardian thing set out in my will and never really even thought the two were related as such...but the recent discovery that one set of parents, for whose children I am Godmother, assumes that I am therefore legal guardian as well, is making me wonder. Do most people think this? If that makes any sense. Blush

gomummygo · 26/09/2011 02:14

Ack misplaced comma! Grin

CheerfulYank · 26/09/2011 02:17

I don't know who would be her legal guardians. My DS's Godparents (I haven't had him baptized yet, but when I do Blush) will be my best friend and DH's twunty brother. But in the event that something happens to us, we want one of DH's sisters to take him. Neither have children or are likely to, but love them (especially DS), would raise him the way we would and are well set financially. (Not that that's so very important, but it is something to consider.)

Speaking of donning your flame proof hat, someone just told me to "go away" on another thread. Hmmph!

:o

valiumredhead · 26/09/2011 08:45

I think Godparents are responsible for the 'moral and religious' welfare of the child and guardians are a whole different ball game.........

Who told you to go away yanky???? Shock Wasn't me was it? Wink I get a bit stroppy on AIBU threads Grin

CheerfulYank · 26/09/2011 08:48

It was this thread, right at the end. :o

CheerfulYank · 26/09/2011 08:49

Last 2 pages :)

valiumredhead · 26/09/2011 09:18

I started reading that thread but then gave up very early on as we used to take ds out of school occasionally when he was little as dh works extreme shifts and sometimes it's more important to see your dad when you are 4 than go to nursery!

'Go away?' - bloody rude! Good job we have the bench where we can 'witter away' to our hearts' content eh? Wink

Teaandcakeplease · 26/09/2011 23:20

I don't think most people assume that GoMummy no. But who knows Wink
