to hate the phrase "yummy mummy"

and MILF for that matter... Hmm

one of the girls I work with is expecting soon and keeps going on about how she loves the idea of being a "yummy mummy".

I really cannot stand the phrase, and even worse when I'm refered to as a MILF, by my male colleagues, and expected to take it as a compliment.

Why do people think these terms are at all acceptable? or am I just being a miserable bitch?

I have a yummy mummy changing bag Blush but I rather like it for it's design. I hat the term MILF yuk.

itisnearlysummer · 02/08/2011 12:49

Good grief, coldcomfortHeart. Is that what it means?

Well that's just clarified it for me then. At least I now know I'm neither! Grin

catgirl1976 · 02/08/2011 12:51

Seriously instant - I promise. Google it but I have heard it used loads.

Rillyrillygoodlooking · 02/08/2011 12:53

I only ever use yummy mummy as a derogatory term. I nearly slapped a friend of mine who lent me the yummy mummy handbook and told me it was really good. Er, no, it really wasn't.

deliciousdevilwoman · 02/08/2011 13:00

Don't mind MILF, can't stand the expression Yummy Mummy though. The crudeness of MILF doesn't offend me, but the tweeness of Yummy Mummy grates. DH will call me it to wind me up, sometimes. That's as far as it goes-I cannot believe that there are YM necklaces.....yeeewwwww!

Whatmeworry · 02/08/2011 13:12

I find Yummy Mummy more offensive than MILF to be honest....

DoMeDon · 02/08/2011 15:21

GILF is worse than MILF!!

catgirl1976 · 02/08/2011 15:25

GILF is boaktastic!

Columbia999 · 02/08/2011 15:25

Yummy mummy is painful, but I also hate "Girly girl", because you just know that any woman who describes herself as a girly girl is usually going to be a total bitchy bitch (especially if they are appearing in Four Weddings on TV).

whattodoo · 02/08/2011 15:31

Hate MILF. Would consider it sexual harrasment if it were said to me in the workplace.
Yummy Mummy - don't mind it, and actually would have liked someone to buy me a yummy mummy changing bag when DD was first born. Couldn't bring myself to buy one for myself, cos that seemed to imply that I thought I was the bees knees in terms of looks, which I dont.

joric · 02/08/2011 15:35

MILF letters on a necklace given by DH??!!!
Mmm, classy!

joric · 02/08/2011 15:36

:o @ Columbia!!

TillyTellTale · 02/08/2011 15:41

Columbia is right on the money, there.

chaya5738 · 02/08/2011 16:08

I hate that term even more than I can express here. I hate the pressure to be a yummy mummy even more. Can't we just be mothers and society lay off how we look for once?

Can't help but feel that Yummy Mummy is linguistic equivalent of the Burberry Check....

worldgonecrazy · 02/08/2011 16:23

chaya5738 I think that blog is a little unfair. Much as I dislike the term "yummy mummy", I also know that preening and pampering myself post birth did make me feel better and better able to face the world.

Hating the term is not the same as hating the person.

seedlessgrape · 02/08/2011 16:25

I've been called a MILF and have to say I'm bloody proud of it (especially at my age!!!).

Yummy Mummy is something my DD calls me....

Hevian · 02/08/2011 16:29

Seedlessgrape - classy.

TandB · 02/08/2011 16:30

I hate the term yummy mummy. To me it doesnt have anything to do with what someone looks like, but rather says a lot about someone's values and desires.

If someone described themselves as a yummy mummy I would immediately make assumptions about what pram they have, what type of activities they do etc.

It just seems like it is about buying into a particular lifestyle.

I'm so glad it's not just me who feels this way.

was begining to think I was just being miserable

YM makes me squirm - there's something a bit bovine about it.

'Yummy' is always boaksome when describing a person anyway. It's only just acceptable when discussing food with a child under the age of 5.

porcamiseria · 02/08/2011 16:39

I dont mind MILF either! shame

yummy mummy, BOAK
