to say that no-one in the house (no not even you DH) can have a cooked breakfast every morning

during the school holidays? Weekends only.

Because we are broke atm and food bills are bloody scary.

I just reminded DH of this as he was getting a monstrous pile of bacon and eggs out of the fridge. I asked him whether he remembered hearing (and backing me up) about this last week, and his response implied that it was only meant for the children Hmm

So he put it back in the fridge, forswore toast or cereal, and is sulking with the paper.

SO AIBU.

I'm not sure tbh.

If everyone has a big breakfast will they have a smaller lunch and tea that won't cost as much?

I shouldn't think so. Lunch would normally just be a sandwich or beans on toast and fruit.

Was you DH going to sit an eat a cooked breakfast after telling the kids that they weren't allowed one? And would they see this?

The boys were still in bed and DD wouldn't want one anyway. But yes. they'd have known. But that isn't really the point.

If he's shit with budgeting and you are broke then YANBU.

I can't say I'd take kindly to being told what to eat if I was contributing financially, but then I run my household and sort out the budget etc.. so I would be aware of (and care about) money issues.

If he wants hot food could he not just have eggs (without them meat) as a compromise, or perhaps porridge with nice toppings?

Bacon every day really isn't very good.

FWIW, I ate 2 eggs on toast every day for years; I like a hot breakfast too, so I am sympathetic.

No to the kids, but he can have what he likes.

I can't believe somebody would do this.

I've seen people in the supermarket buying cheap stuff for the kids and then seeing them put better quality stuff in for themselves (overheard them whilst buying my own stuff) and I was Shock

If it had to be a choice, my kids would get the best food (as long as I knew they'd eat it) every time.

i often suggest eggs, toms mushrooms but it seems to fall on deaf ears, unless i am cooking Wink

He contributes of course. But under half of what I contribute even though he now earns almost as much. But he has an overdraft because he is an utter twat with money Angry so he can't increase the amount he contributes to out household account. He's done this before - got into a big overdraft I mean - but this time he's earning a huge amount more so there is no excuse. I must admit this is adding to my ire! I am a real worrier about money and budget really carefully so I get frustrated with DH.

May I suggest he take responsibility for his own grocery shopping?
If he's not contributing sufficiently to the coffers, then it seems an easy save for you.
Might learn what budgetting is for then.

Ermm... Don't know how tight your budget is, but I'm a great believer in protein breakfasts. Maybe less bacon and more eggs, but, like they say "breakfast like a king; dine like a pauper".

Eating anything whilst telling your DC's they cannot have the same due to financial issues is extraordinarily mean Sad
