For those wanting something more balanced/serious/less full of gore, have you seen the "Dead famous" kiddie-historical biog spin-offs? My DD really liked the Elizabeth 1st one and Mary Queen of Scotts by Maragret Simpson. She actually said "it made a change to read about dresses and servants and husbands, not just poo"

Jemima you mentioned Terry Deary ones, I think they're fictional thrillers set in certain times, are they good?

The tall curly haired Stupid deaths one he rocks too - at the Prom he joined in a ballet dance to some rites of death classical thingy!! (blushes at utter classical music ignorance..)Wink

O sorry Mavis, just cross-posted with you taking it back to heavy stuff.

"We sell any monk" finally booted out of my head now by the Celtic boast rap - genius!

Danse Macabre Tonks

I enjoyed the way they chose music that is gruesome or horrible in some way for the Prom: Danse Macabre, The Death of Tybalt, March to the Scaffold from the Symphonie Fantastique, Sacrificial Dance from the Rite of Spring. ds was a bit put off these pieces because the programme notes explained the titles, though. Odd child, loves all the gore from Horrible Histories itself. I suppose being really quite close to an orchestra playing March to the Scaffold is a little more overwhelming...

(It wasn't all scary stuff, there was the Wedding March from A Midsummer Night's Dream, Handel's Music for the Royal Fireworks and Greensleeves.)

My favourite moment was when Jim-as-invading-viking mingling with the arena folk had to ad lib about accidentally kicking over somebody's bottle of Sprite!

I was a hunk,
Girls adored me,
Ladies all, swooned before me,
They would do, anything for me,
Or I'd have their husbands killed.

ta-da I have the dates for its airing on BBC; " Horrible Histories Prom will be broadcast on CBBC at 5.15pm on 9 September and repeated a week later on BBC One"

Fecklessdizzy · 12/08/2011 20:14

Oh Joy! That's totally cheered me up! ( Saddo alert ... )

NorfolkNChance · 12/08/2011 20:30

Yay to finally having a date

Deanna1977 · 12/08/2011 20:39

Tonks! Yey!
Can I please now get "we sell any monk" out of my head...

EdithWeston · 12/08/2011 21:18

Excellent!

And it'll be long enough after the riots to avoid censure of incitement if the repertoire includes the Viking song or Spartan High Scholl Musical.....

DrCoconut · 12/08/2011 22:21

We are historial re enactors and did a big event at the Chiltern Open Air Museum where quite a bit of it is filmed. DS1 recognises "our house" in the Georgian wife swap episode. We cooked over that fireplace! Horrible histories rule.

Bump - The HH Prom is about to start.

Collision · 09/10/2011 17:27

Did anyone contact BBC to demand a CD be released????

Greenshadow · 12/10/2011 23:29

I believe there are various campaigns requesting one - no one seems quite sure of the reasons why there isn't one yet. Does seem rather an obvious omission.
