to think it's odd to hold your ds's party at your parents

instead of your house?

Friend is having her DS's party at her mum and dad's, instead of her house. It's not a family party - friends of the DS have been invited.

Maybe there's more space there? Bigger garden?

whackamole · 20/07/2011 19:33

YABU.

Maybe they have a garden? Better BBQ? Or - for one memorable occasion in my past - maybe there has been a gas explosion down your road and all the windows have been blown out of your house necessitating a change of venue?

DuelingFanjo · 20/07/2011 19:33

not odd. do they have more room? How old is the child. Anyway, it's less odd for family to be there lan loads of random people with their kids.

pranma · 20/07/2011 19:33

my dgs had a party at his dgp home which is a lovely country cottage with a huge garden as opposed to a town terrace......why not?

pictish · 20/07/2011 19:34

Not odd at all. What's it to you anyway?

Indith · 20/07/2011 19:34

a friend of mine does this for her dcs parties, parents have a nice pace with lots of outside space that she doesn't have, I don't think it odd at all.

fluffles · 20/07/2011 19:34

not weird at all.. guessing it's either nicer or bigger or in some way more suitable.

MamaLazarou · 20/07/2011 19:34

Not odd at all, especially if the grandparents have more room.

MrsKravitz · 20/07/2011 19:34

No
One of my friends used to have her dd's at her parents as they helped and also had a lovely big garden (July party).

GreenEyesandHam · 20/07/2011 19:35

Why the chuff would you see that as odd?

lubberlich · 20/07/2011 19:35

Not odd.

Choufleur · 20/07/2011 19:35

friends have beautiful/large home with garden. Her parents have 3 bed-modest semi with smaller garden.

What a strange question.

I am doing this on Friday. They have a much bigger garden and decking which is much better for a party. Plus they can help me.

It never once crossed my mind that anyone would think it was odd. Or even care about the venue. Hmmm.

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 20/07/2011 19:36

I held my DD'd party at my parents' as they have a large house with a lovely huge garden, whereas I live in a flat with no garden. Makes sense to me.

TartyMcFarty · 20/07/2011 19:36

Not remotely. There could be any number of reasons why it would be inconvenient to have the party at home.

Choufleur · 20/07/2011 19:36

Think it's odd as I wouldn't inflict a noisy and messy children's party on my parents, when you have a perfectly good space to have it in your own home.

LemonDifficult · 20/07/2011 19:37

YANBU - there's a million reasons for this. Why do you care?

FizzyMakeFeelNice · 20/07/2011 19:37

DD's*

LemonDifficult · 20/07/2011 19:37

Sorry that should have been You Are Being Unreasonable

(too much agreeing with people today)

pictish · 20/07/2011 19:38

Well, they obviously have their own reasons don't they? Should they have run it by you first?

superjobee · 20/07/2011 19:41

we had DDs 1st at home, 2nd at my sisters, 3rd at my best mates, 4th at my sisters, 5th .. um..Hmm.. at home Blush and 6th at soft play then home.

we 're birthday gypsies Grin never had any real reason for doing it just like a bit of a change really!

ragged · 20/07/2011 19:41

Grandparents are willing to host the mess & stress? What's not to like!?

Melly20MummyToPoppy · 20/07/2011 19:43

My MIL plans on having all my DD's birthday parties at her house as she has a huge garden, plenty of room for a bouncy castle :o I don't mind, stops my house getting messy :o

AnonymousBird · 20/07/2011 19:44

?!?!?!?!!? for real?

GP's probably decided (very kindly) to host it for their DGC!!!! I'd bite PILs hand off if they made such an offer - no DC party going to ever happen INSIDE my house for sure!

Get a grip and oh, yes, YABU.

DuelingFanjo · 20/07/2011 19:44

does it really matter? Maybe they offered? Maybe it was the only way the grandparents could attend?
