How miserable are you that the Tories are in power?

I feel tense and twitchy. I used to enjoy reading the politic section/ other political forums, but I fear if I keep on going there and reading more and more about Tory plans, I will give myself a heart attack.

I loath them but worst I fear them. I am anxious for this country and the ordinary man and woman.

Dave makes me feel insane with hatred.

I have a colleague who is in love with the Tories. I don't share biscuits with him any more.

Dave makes me itch. All over.

But what do you have to have to afford a child. What you think you need is probably a lot more than what i need.

Yes the government could try and police how many children people have by removing benefits but realistically this will not stop people having kids. All that will happen is there will be more kids living in poverty.

Ishani · 10/07/2011 15:29

Well more fool the parents then, simple.
If the government says you currently what £65 a week to keep yourself and £50 a week for each child plus what ever you want to spend on rent but lets say the HB cap of £100 a week for an adult and two kids. If you have children without ever being able to earn that in the first place then you've been on the back foot from day one.

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 15:33

Not sure why that is especially for me moony Confused

Malcontentinthemiddle · 10/07/2011 15:38

Ok, how about this poem?

Claig asked Curry to consider some facts
Which were actually her opinions expressed in rather poor doggerel
And she was obviously wrong
And so I sing this song
Ding dong.

I hate Tories.

Malcontentinthemiddle · 10/07/2011 15:39

Ishani 'more fool the parents then'

Quite. And more hungry the kids. Lovely.

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 15:41

Malc :o

Ishani · 10/07/2011 15:41

Nobody to blame but the parents, good ones would go without themselves first, bad ones never would no matter how much money you gave them. Always been the case.

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 15:44

An indignant Curry
Got herself in a flurry
About Thatcher fan Claig
Whose evidence was vague

The conclusion Curry drew
(though she already knew)
Is that if you are a Tory
You don't need facts - just a story

Fifis25StottieCakes · 10/07/2011 15:44

Then what about people who are working in minimum wage jobs. Should they not have kids. My rent is £280pcm, the house in the next street with a BTL landlord is £650. There are hardly any council houses in my area so many rent private.

Should the family who cant get a council house and rent a private house not be allowed to have kids. He works FT in a minimum wage job but cant get a mortgage. He would get a better job if he could find one/had the qualifications. Mam would stay at home as they cant afford the nursery. If she did work she would be working to cover the nursery. They are left with less than what you think they should have to be capable of raising kids. Should they not have kids?

Malcontentinthemiddle · 10/07/2011 15:46

For fuck's sake though, you see a hungry kid and think 'ah shit, who can I blame for this? Oh phewf, it's the parents' fault, I can rest easy'?

You'd actually be happy with that? Actually implementing policies which you knew for sure would result in deprivation, in the hope it would teach some kind of Malthusian lesson over a few generations?

Tories really are heartless fucking bastards.

mauricetinkler · 10/07/2011 15:51

Food vouchers? Surely they would help.

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 15:53

Malcon the whole Tory ethos can, imho, be summed up with the phrase "I'm alright Jack. Pull up the ladder"

Malcontentinthemiddle · 10/07/2011 15:55

'A socialist would rather some people were able to play the system but nobody went without. A Conservative would rather some people went without, to ensure that no-one could play the system.'

and

'Not all conservatives are stupid people, but most stupid people are conservatives' (JS Mill)

claig · 10/07/2011 16:04

wasn't JS Mill a Conservative?

Xenia · 10/07/2011 16:05

Both parties are in favour of the welfare state. You help people more if you help them to help themselves. At the moment the system in some areas rewards the idle and that has been a very hard nut for parties of all colours to crack. Labour apparently is partly responsible for the big birth rise as it became worth having more babies (and that might not be a bad thing if we want more births than old people to be supported)

claig · 10/07/2011 16:06

some good poems from the progressive crew

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 16:09

We is the new Red Wedge innit? :o

claig · 10/07/2011 16:10

but spoiled by their erroneous conclusions and patent confusions, possibly caused by too many progressive substance infusions

Chen23 · 10/07/2011 16:15

Chubsaurus, with all the problems facing us right now you really think a severe cut in inheritance tax is an urgent priority?

Claig, you (and others) can delude yourself that Thatcher was hugely popular across broad swathes of the UK if you like but the reality is that throughout her tenure she was consistently less popular than the conservative party and as an average had the second lowest approval ratings of any post war PM.

She quickly dropped in the polls after winning in 79 (she hit 23% approval rating in 1980 lower than any previous PM) and if it wasn't for the Falklands war giving her a spike of approval late 82 there was a very good chance she wouldn't have been voted in for a second term.

She's also someone who would have been disgusted by your far left state interventionism, protectionism and pro nationalisation agenda.

That, coupled with your oddball conspiracy theorising and obsession with a down market tabloid gossip mag suggests to me that you're not really doing the right wing side of this discussion any favours.

mauricetinkler · 10/07/2011 16:18

I'm with Claig - a rare and much welcome line of original thought on sheepsnet

claig · 10/07/2011 16:19

'and obsession with a down market tabloid gossip mag'

How dare you suggest I have an obsession with the Guardian! I have no such thing.

But I can't help it if I'm right and Thatcher got a few minor points wrong.

claig · 10/07/2011 16:21

We live in the world as is, and Thatcher was the best there was.

CurrySpice · 10/07/2011 16:24

Claig you think you are being clever and outrageous and shocking but, I'm afarid to break this to you, you're coming across as a bit of a knob.

Chen23 · 10/07/2011 16:24

"I'm with Claig - a rare and much welcome line of original thought on sheepsnet"

Do you agree with Claig that the richest industrialists and energy / commodities moguls on the planet are conspiring to bring down the worlds economy, cripple their own companies and lose most of their money because they want to lower the worlds population?

Are you also into the idea of closing off trade with Asia and America, in fact anywhere outside of the EU?

It may be original but then so was David Ickes theory that the royal family are all shape shifting lizards.

claig · 10/07/2011 16:26

Thank you for those wise words, mauricetinkler.
There are many sheep that are regularly shorn on progressivesnet.
They would be well advised to read the Daily Mail in order to open their eyes and hear the reveille.
