New Statesman article by Hugh Grant

kerstina · 08/07/2011 09:24

Wow if Hugh Grant hosted QT every week am sure more people might be more interested in politics Smile
I watch question time every week and am looking forward to it being back on in September especially as David Milliband will be on the first show .

ShirlOckholmes · 08/07/2011 09:47

Seems like most peoples watching QT last night were way more interested in HG than in politics!!

Personally, I thought SW was good, but she always is when she's on QT.

MugglesandLuna · 08/07/2011 09:48

I love HG, and when he called out Douglas Alexander I think I loved him even more.

andrea69 · 08/07/2011 09:51

" John Prescott has been hacked to death "

I may have had a little swoon :o

yellabelly · 08/07/2011 09:57

yes, something likeable about Hugh Grant. The yanks have seen him in films; and they think we are all like him

Smellslikecatpee · 08/07/2011 09:58

Actually never liked HG, could never understand what people saw in him, seemed to be a bit of a one trick pony.

BUT he was very good alot better than I expected, cut through a lot of the bull that was been spouted.

NormanTebbit · 08/07/2011 09:58

If you're interestred in politics there's no pint watching OT. It's a bloody pantomime.

RottenTiming · 08/07/2011 10:21

I was surprised too.

All I could think though was he'd be good for a privacy debate q&a session on MN.

do you think MN towers could lure him in, are tea and biscuits sufficient bait ?

fedupofnamechanging · 08/07/2011 10:22

I think he reprised his Love Actually role very well for his appearance on QT.

He is cute though, and lets face it Arnie did okay in politics, despite being a one dimensional actor. No reason why Hugh couldn't do it too. It would be nice to have a politician on TV, whose face I don't want to punch in as soon as they appear!

GothAnneGeddes · 08/07/2011 10:53

He was indeed very good on QT, as was Shirley Williams.

Kerstina That should be very interesting!

QT is in Norn Iron the week after which should also be worth watching.

GentleOtter · 08/07/2011 10:57

It would be good to have someone with the sort of attitude Hugh Grant reflected on QT as head of the Press Complaints Commission.

yellabelly · 08/07/2011 10:58

I sort of like all the grants. Cary Hugh and Richard E (an impressionist once did all 3 brilliantly)

springydaffs · 08/07/2011 11:00

Feeling bad about saying HG is a shit. I should revise that and say I suspect he is a shit. Sorry Hugh, if you're watching.

share · 08/07/2011 11:07

Ditto smellslikecatpoo ... (smells like cat poo?! what a name wont ask you to share why the nickname Grin )

Rocky12 · 08/07/2011 11:07

I cannot stand Shirley Williams. Sent her child many many years ago to a grant maintained/private school whilst shutting down the grammar's, same with Ruth Kelly, Diane Abbot etc. Spout off nonsense about all being equal and then do the complete opposite. Diane Abbott is the worst imho. Why the people of Hackney vote for her is beyond me

MissPB · 08/07/2011 11:11

YANBU - I saw him on Channel 4 News last night. Hadn't seem him for ages but wow. He was articulate, intelligent and rather handsome....

lastonetoleaveturnoutthelights · 08/07/2011 11:18

YANBU. And springydaffs, I would say he was a shit. I think he's redeeming himself now. Next step for him should be into politics to fight against human trafficking and in particular the rights of sex workers. Then he'll be redeeming himself quite nicely. And making the HoC look a bit more attractive to boot.

BenHer · 08/07/2011 11:20

Hugh Grant and Joanna Lumley. The dream ticket for a "Peoples Party".Smile

sausagesandmarmelade · 08/07/2011 11:21

He came across really well last night...

That journalist was JUST awful!

EssexGurl · 08/07/2011 11:38

DH is out tonight and I am tempted to re-watch QT on iplayer thingy whatever it is called.

BenHer · 08/07/2011 11:38

"Jon Gaunt has lost his appeal against a high court ruling that media watchdog Ofcom was justified in upholding complaints about a TalkSport interview in which he called a local councillor a "Nazi"."

Hardly surprising Gaunt was against a body to monitor the press given his history.Grant made him look a fool.

BitOfFun · 08/07/2011 11:42

Gaunt was exactly like those pigs in trenchcoats that Spitting Image used to use to represent the press.

LadyBlaBlah · 08/07/2011 12:20

Having just iPlayered, I have fallen even deeper in love with Hugh Grant.

I think we have a lot in common Smile

donnie · 08/07/2011 12:23

yes BitOfFun, just EXACTlY like that! bursting out of his trousers and SHOUTING EVERY WORD!
