AIBU to think that this woman is taking the bloody piss?

www.thesun.co.uk/sol/homepage/news/3673011/Nigerian-mum-Bimbo-Ayelabola-flew-into-Britain-and-had-quins-on-the-NHS.html

I very much doubt she will be sent back. Who is paying her legal fees is what I would like to know?

Are we a soft touch or just a lovely compassionate country with enough resources for all?

So if it costs £24million, on the NHS total expenditure in 2008 / 09 it was 0.0002%? I stand by drop in the ocean then.

JIRkids · 05/07/2011 11:48

She is blatantly abusing the system but I don't blame her. There is terrible health care in her country unless she has thousands to go private, I doubt her children would have survived there. We are so lucky to be born here.

Birdsgottafly · 05/07/2011 11:52

I said that i don't believe that the money saved would be spent elsewhere, but i still believe that we should make what savings that we can.

The services where this woman lives will not be stretched further, so it does make a difference, her being here.

Birdsgottafly · 05/07/2011 11:54

That should have read 'will be stretched further'.

This woman is being exploited by Max Clifford or someone similar. She has done nothing wrong. She did not know she was carrying 5 babies when she got a visit visa to the UK.

I don't think it's unreasonable for her to ask for an extension to her visa.

I also doubt that Heathrow is swamped with planeloads of quin-carrying women from Nigeria.

What aload of bollocks how many times were we invaded over the years, like we are the only country to ever do that. ! As gor taking the piss, How much money do our government give to third world contries each year anyway?

alemci · 05/07/2011 13:33

The whole flavour of the last 2 years' has been to tighten your belts, don't expect this that and the other. Costs are going up and people's wages are not.

The people who actually live here and pay taxes are receiving this message from our government about how necessary the cuts are to reduce are deficit.

This story may be inacurate but I still think she is abusing our NHS and people arriving to GB often seem to be getting more than they should.

For example there was a story about the Afghan family who were given a massive house in Ealing to live in which most people could only dream of.

I don't think people are being xenophobic. they are just fed up with being taken for mugs and are frustrated because no one is allowed to speak the truth about immigration and the negative factors.

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 13:41

i agree you are being taken for mugs. But by the media.

KaraJS · 05/07/2011 13:53

On baby hospital last week a women come over to visit and gave birth prematurly, 28 weeks I think, the cost of the baby's care was 250,000 which the country the couple came from were asked to pay( which they did)

spudulika · 05/07/2011 14:12

"I don't think people are being xenophobic. they are just fed up with being taken for mugs and are frustrated because no one is allowed to speak the truth about immigration and the negative factors."

I prefer to direct my anger at the tax avoiders at the top end of the income scale. People claiming benefits are usually just scraping by. People at the top end of the income scale could pay full UK tax and STILL be stinking rich. What's their excuse?

There are thousands of people a year who think an £800 handbag is affordable. To me that signifies that there are many who need, NEED, to be relieved of some cash for a better cause. Namely the NHS. Or anything really. Just not handbags. Or shoes.

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 14:44

Nice jackets?

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 14:44

Gooseberrybushes · 05/07/2011 15:02

Drop in the ocean huh. Tell you what, if it's such an insignificant amount of money and it's just kicking around, I'll have my share which is about let's see 24 million between 60 million - 400,000 pounds and the rest can be spent on health tourism. Except - oh dear there are other desperately poor, ill and needy people who'd like their share too.

Nonsense, to say it doesn't matter. And insulting, considering there are people on the thread who are struggling to obtain resources for their children.

Health tourism is an abuse and should be stopped.

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 15:04

erm. your maths is wrong.

Gooseberrybushes · 05/07/2011 15:06

in what way

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 15:07

In the way that you said £24 million divided by 60 million was £400,000.

Gooseberrybushes · 05/07/2011 15:13

I think I've gone mad. In my defence I haven't eaten any lunch.

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 15:14

I could send you your share but you couldn't even get some lunch with it :)

ninedragons · 05/07/2011 15:21

Shame stories like this get so much more airtime than things like scholarships for children of FIFA/IOC delegates and staggeringly huge bribes to Saudi princes for arms contracts.

Technically the woman's actions were abuse but potentially it saved six lives.

suzikettles · 05/07/2011 15:34

24 million between 60 million is 40p.

HTH

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 15:37

:) did offer to send Gooseberry his / her share..........

Gooseberrybushes · 05/07/2011 15:43

I have now eaten lunch. 40p would have contributed to the cherry tomatoes. Hand it over.

catgirl1976 · 05/07/2011 15:45

If you agree that "health tourism" at 40p per person per year is not what's causing the resource issues within the NHS I will gladly hand it over :)
