Ah, babyheave has said it much better :)

Only just discovered this thread and have to say I am totally shocked that BigBadWolfie has gone unchallenged for two whole days on a serious factual error. "Stand By Your Man" was written and originally performed by Tammy Wynette, and although it has been covered by a number of artistes since, as far as I can discover Dolly Parton was not one of them. You'd think someone who claimed to adore the Divine Dolly would have noticed it wasn't her voice.

exoticfruits · 03/07/2011 23:13

Well it does give you a bigger audience in which to slag off the Feminism topic and some of its posters, so that must be helpful exoticfruits

It is hugely helpful-the majority of people keep off feminist threads and don't read -they have ventured on and thought it not worth the aggro, if you dare to voice an opionion that is different.

I don't want it to turn into two sides facing each other and spear rattling, surely there is room for a range of approaches to feminism, equality and what needs to change?
Space for all the variants and branches of feminism, whatever they are called?

chibi · 03/07/2011 23:15

with respect to not letting the message be polluted by anger, how am i meant to look at a world where girls' and women's lives just aren't valued and not feel angry? How do you do it garlic?

If i am not angry about it constantly, it's more because i deliberately don't think about it too much or for too long

Not calling yourself a feminist isn't wrong - most women don't label themselves as feminist but support women's rights in their own way.
You don't have to be tapping away on the MN feminist section to be a useful member of society - Plus men have been on our side for years, supporting issues directly affecting women through unions and political legislation. So I hate all the male bashing.
I will never identify with the 'all men are bad all women are good' thing that goes on - and it does go on.

sparky246 · 03/07/2011 23:17

i can get really upset over certain subjects but i do know if im in the wrong and i do appologise-then report my own posts.
at one point i probably had mnhq banging theyre heads on the floor-i was reporting all my own posts-loads of them.
i guess i was just at a bad point.
i usually try and speak to people as i do in rl!
but i guess this is the problem isnt it-its the internet and i think that sometimes people forget that for every post-theres a writer behind it.[on all counts]
its not just words is it-theres a person aswell.
right-im off to bed[i think]
its been nice talking to you today[not often in aibi]
nitewaves

nenevomito · 03/07/2011 23:18

I didn't read that post as GN saying that a handful of women on the internet will be to blame for it going wrong, but that if you have women who belittle other women being the identified face of feminism its damaging.

The message is pretty simple - women are equal to men and should be treated as such, but somewhere in all of the anger and name calling, that message is being lost and a whole new generation of young women are staying away.

Now my head is stuck on a loop with "whatever happened to the female president -- she's dancing in a video next to 50 cent". Damn you Pink and damn the bottle of white I've drunk this evening.

I most very should not have posted about something I feel so strongly about in a state of such ciderness. I apologise for saying what I didn't mean to say, going by responses, and am evidently not in a fit state to try saying it better right now Blush

Why does rambly ranting work so much better in your living room???

I'd hate to see anyone banned for having a different viewpoint to mine, and surely that's not what this site is about?
I've reported posts that have attacked me personally, and that I felt irritated by (none in Feminism) and they have been removed. I'd rather that than censorship of a whole train of thought.
