The Non-Feminist Point of View

JamesHuff · 29/06/2011 15:00

I have noticed over the last while that the Feminist section has grown over the last bit.

This does not surprise me, but I feel compelled to ask why this site has begun to ascribe to a sociopolitical ideology when it was originally a resource for parents.

I think that as a result of this discrepancy, non-feminist points of view should have their own section as well. I hope people who disagree with inequalities feminism has created within our legislation will be compelled to express themselves more often.

I don't see it as unreasonable. Since there will be disagreements on various topics, I just figure a non-feminist based section would be in order. This way parents have a choice that reflects both sides of the coin.

ooooh data....sounds scary.

SybilBeddows · 29/06/2011 16:41

since you're staying, James, do you know anything about patchwork quilting? I'm having trouble with my quilt sandwich, it keeps getting creased when I try to pin it.

Ormirian · 29/06/2011 16:42

And Venn diagrams

EricNorthmansMistress · 29/06/2011 16:42

Jamez = definition of data

What you have collected here is a bit of crossness, some pisstaking, a wee bit of sensible opinion and some marvellous poems. None of that can reasonably be referred to as 'data'

HTH

SybilBeddows · 29/06/2011 16:43

thread here in Arts and Crafts

some of your MRA mates must be quilters, no?

GeekCool · 29/06/2011 16:43

Does your data collecting go along the lines of 'good guy, good guy, wank'?

SinicalSal · 29/06/2011 16:43

Articulate your point James, if you have one.

UmYeahLikeTotally · 29/06/2011 16:43

I'm getting major LOLZ from this thread!

ChickensHaveNoEyebrows · 29/06/2011 16:43

Thanks Geek. I feel I have educated here on this thread

mayorquimby · 29/06/2011 16:43

As a bloke can I just ask why would anyone not be a feminist? and there are plenty of P.O.V.'s expressed on here under the banner of feminism which I would not agree with, but that tends to mean i disagree with the posters opinion as to what feminism is or whether or not I believe something is directly or indirectly discriminatory against women, but it doesn't mean I disagree with feminism.
As far as I understand it feminism essentially seeks the equal treatment of all under the law and that both genders be equally able to pursue and obtain the same social opportunities and receive the same treatment. Now I understand this is a very basic explanation because you then get into radical feminism vs structural vs system of care etc., but if i were to try and create some criteria which ran through all schools of feminism surely they'd be present. Or am I missing something? because who could really have a problem with those criteria? Fair enough if you think that implimentation of certain policies is incorrect or that the pendelum has swung too far in the other direction, but to claim that you hold a non-feminist P.O.V. surely just marks you out as a bit of a twat.

Blackduck · 29/06/2011 16:45

Oh has James been complaining to MNHQ? Lots of deleted posts......

MillyR · 29/06/2011 16:45

Sybil, what kind of quilting is easiest for a beginner?

Omigawd · 29/06/2011 16:45

"I feel compelled to ask why this site has begun to ascribe to a sociopolitical ideology when it was originally a resource for parents."

Easy - once you've pumped the baby out, a womans's thoughts turn naturally to sociopolitical ideology. And chocolate.

TrilllianAstra · 29/06/2011 16:46

The plural of anecdote is not data.

The plural of pisstakin' surely ain't dataz.

i disagree with the posters opinion as to what feminism is or whether or not I believe something is directly or indirectly discriminatory against women, but it doesn't mean I disagree with feminism

Can we have a Quimby fanclub too?

GeekCool · 29/06/2011 16:46

Grin @ mayorquimby

mayorquimby · 29/06/2011 16:47

It's about time.

AnyFucker · 29/06/2011 16:47

Jamez, with your love of data, could you explain algebra for me, please ?

I just don't fucking get it

ShirleyKnot · 29/06/2011 16:47

What did I get delemeted for? I don't think I did anything personal attack-y.

Chen23 · 29/06/2011 16:48

mayorquimby - voice of reason, nice one.

I meant to say something like that but found myself taking the piss out of his failed attempt at a moustache instead.

GeekCool · 29/06/2011 16:48

anyFucker You are just a woman though, why would you need to know algebra? Wink

(Realising I have assumed you are actually female, this could backfire)

CrapolaDeVille · 29/06/2011 16:48

Additionally, Mumsnet members generally refuse to use proper swear words despite the fact that the website doesn't have a swear filter. That kind of behaviour annoys the flipping feck out of me! James on his piss poor website.

Well we fucking do cunting swear.....you're thinking of Netmums hun.

TrilllianAstra · 29/06/2011 16:49

mayorquimby (and anyone else who is interested)

Here's my definition of a feminist in 3 easy steps:
1 - Do you think that people should be treated, valued & respected equally, no matter what their gender?
2 - Do you believe that this is currently not the case?
3 - Would you like it to be the case?
3 x yes = feminist

(others require feminist behaviour, I think it is purely about thoughts, though of course if you do answer yes then that naturally leads to doing some things and not doing others)

CrapolaDeVille · 29/06/2011 16:49

Message deleted by Mumsnet but James is still a fuckwit.

NotADudeExactly · 29/06/2011 16:51

OP is live blogging (well, was apparently going to - FAIL! - see below) the MN experience: antimisandry.com/feminist-misandry/my-experiment-mumsnet-40958.html grin

Unfortunately for him no other non-feminists appear to have taken an interest yet. Maybe OP is just feeling hurt because he's lonely? Awww, ... sad
