Given up caring now, just drive past them into the pumps they are ignoring and then take great pleasure in flipping the pipe over the top of my 4x4 in a if I can do it so can you manner. As for how much I put in - this is my work car need plenty day and night for treking across fields so I have to be there forever putting in the 100 litres it takes to fill the tank.

They don't stretch at some petrol station. I've looked like a complete numpty trying to yank a fixed pipe towards the other side of the car. Defeats the 'I'm so good at this, I can pull a heavy pipe two meters, bet you didn't think a woman would do that' vibe. You've got to know your garages!

I've done that too

For some reason all the garages around where I grew up had the long hoses, then I was working out of town and had to use a petrol station with teeny tiny hoses. I wasn't even in a big car like I am now. I had to go out of the (busy!) petrol station, drive a fair way to the nearest roundabout, go past the petrol station till I could reach yet another roundabout, then finally get to fill up.

Person at the counter even said "hi again" when I went to pay

No one seems to have thought that stretching the hose over, around or whatever is likely to end up giving you lots of little scratches on the paintwork. I'm a little fanatical precious about it......so I would never do it. You will all just have to wait behind my gleaming car...

Lordy you should all come and live in the north east; beacause it isn't overcrowded and there are ALWAYS plenty of pumps available that don't require any cat stretching.

I'm a bit meh about the hose stretch. Will do it if I have to, but prefer the direct entry.
