I think everyone should have a practice this week.

If I spot anyone doing the right technique - BEHIND the car - not OVER - it's probably a mumsnetter.

TheStallionOfSensibleness · 19/06/2011 13:56

Brilliant Animation.
you could get out and give fuckingannoying helpful advice ;)

I was talking about this very subject today. I don't think it is just women though is it? Tis the olds too.... She gets out, tells him he isn't near enough to the pump, he manoeuvres again, she hovers over him to make sure he puts exactly £10 in then gives him the money to go the kiosk rather than pay at the pump holding the queue up even more.

Hulababy · 19/06/2011 14:09

Not always enough room to park further forward though. And not all hoses stretch.

LolaRennt · 19/06/2011 14:09

I've called the RSPCA

DarrellRivers · 19/06/2011 14:10

I usually have to do this as can't remember which side cap is on
Too many cars
Too little time
(suspects not remembering this is worse than being able to stretch the hose competently)

SecretNutellaFix · 19/06/2011 14:10

My DH won't stretch the nozzle, because last time he did, it scratched.

Animation · 19/06/2011 14:13

"Not always enough room to park further forward though."

Ah yes, good point!

foxinsocks · 19/06/2011 14:20

Omg surely this cannot be an issue?

I have heard it all on mumsnet now. People won't drive, or do drive and won't on motorways, won't answer the door or the phone, now they don't like filling up at a petrol station if the pump is on the wrong side

I actually never knew daily life could create so many issues

CybilsLiberty · 19/06/2011 14:38

That CCTV clip made me lol

really funny

I've not been able to open the petrol cap before and mewed plaintively at passing men on the forecourt to help me

Not one bugger did

TheStallionOfSensibleness · 19/06/2011 14:43

I tweeted it. No one laughed.

women who cannot drive and do basic things in their cars should have their licenses rescinded

BimboNo5 · 19/06/2011 14:49

Women (and men) can bloody well exercise their choice as to whether they wait at a pump on the petrol tank side or 'stretch it over the cat'. FFS why do people take it upon themselves to make everything their business when its not?

CybilsLiberty · 19/06/2011 14:50

Some folk are not taking this thread in the manner it is meant

ie a larf

Maybe THEY are in the video

PerryCombover · 19/06/2011 14:54

nope

i feel a license burning coming on

i hate feeble wimpy women drivers....grrrr

VivaLeBeaver · 19/06/2011 14:55

Some 18yo strumpet bimbo was once being all passive aggressive in tesco petrol station kiosk. Moaning to her mate that she didn't understand why people insisted on waiting for the correct side pump. I told her she was a nobber.

livinghell · 19/06/2011 15:03

Of course it needs pointing out that petrol hoses are NOT stretchy. Some are longer than others. That is all.

Oh and I can do some very 'basic' things in my car.

Honeydragon · 19/06/2011 15:04

I haven't stretched the hose over a cat but I did take my bike and trailer once to get petrol for our generators. Whist I was paying a man came in and demanded I move my bike so he could get to that particularly pump.

He was told to nob off Grin

TheStallionOfSensibleness · 19/06/2011 15:09

I'd like to know why there are so few pay at pumps these days.

OP posts:
livinghell · 19/06/2011 15:44

Because if you pay at the pump so you don't spend another £10 on unnecessary crap in the shop. simples

PfftTheMagicDragon · 19/06/2011 15:49

How can so many people say that they have never found a petrol station at which the pump stretches?

I drive a big ass Volvo and have never found a station where the pump doesn't reach.

Are you all driving spaceships?

Or can't you manage to get close enough to the pump?

I once found a cat in my car when I got to the supermarket. It wasn't even mine.

PfftTheMagicDragon · 19/06/2011 15:54

My main issue with getting fuel is that it is so BORING.

H is always asking me why I didn't fill the tank all the way. I always say "I got bored." I only ever make it to about £15 until I've had enough.

TheStallionOfSensibleness · 19/06/2011 15:55

ah now oyu need to choose your pump carefeully

some are super fast

OP posts:
PfftTheMagicDragon · 19/06/2011 15:57

How do you know? Just trial and error, with some kind of spreadsheet and venn diagrams?
