to ditch DH on Father's day and go on a jolly without him?

got a chance to go to the theatre with the DDs. something DH really wouldn't be interested in. (v cheap tickets - normally waaaaay out of my price range)

Should we go?

yes if you can do something special for your husband on the day that he would love. (my wife has booked a diving experiance for me). can you do something similar?

urely the only person that can answer that is your DH? Personally it would bother me not a jot if the kids went off and did something with their dad on mothers day, it means nothing to me. I'm a mother every day, and my kids tell me that they appreciate me in different ways. Last night they told me that they wished my course would finish as I'm not spending enough time with them - they are teenagers. That means more to me than any contrived day.

i could jazz it up as a whole day off on his own. get him some bubble bath and beer and leave him in peace. he'd like that.

My DH would see day without us all as the perfect Father's Day gift as long as we came home safe and sound and told him how much we missed him / how much he had achieved without us etc etc. Would the reverse not pretty much summarise your perfect Mother's Day?

I have to say that if you buggetred off all day then as a father i would be pissed off, its meant to be his day but if you planned something special for him then it shows you thought about him.

If yes to both he'll happy as a pig in shit - there's a Test match on. Leave him a 6 pack of beer, a pork pie and some chocolate biscuits.

I'd go with the 'day off' approach. DH would make a half-hearted protest, but be secretly delighted to be left alone in blissful peace (as would I - give half a chance).

WADR MrSpoc, it is his day, to do with as he pleases...he might want to sit in front of tv watching Come Dine With Me, with his hands down his pants for all we know...

The fact that he has a whole day to do as he pleases is enough IMO, personally I'd love that!

Ooh yes, you could pointedly leave out some takeaway menus for him and your card number, or something.

I'm working on fathers day :( I do every other Sunday in a charity shop so I'm out 10-5ish. His older DDs are staying for the weekend though so we/they are having a massive board game/wii/DVD-fest with lots of crappy junk food, I doubt he'll even notice I've gone as their eyes will be glued to the screen (one of his presents is Harry Potter Lego wii game)

On Saturday though we are going to the local level crossing because they have this old signal box thing, and they open it to the public a few times a year. Oh the excitement :o

he does indeed enjoy cricket, come dine with me, hands in pants and would also enjoy the signal box.

DH was very pleased to get rid of us for the day. anly problem is i can either take mother or DD2s friend but not both. who should I take?

but mother is bonkers eccentric and DD2s mate is lovely. although mother may pay for train. and she doesn't get out much.

Personally I'd take DD2s mate. Not because of what you have said, but because I think it is more important to me to make a day out special for my daughter than for my mother, and if there has to be a choice, my daughter wins.

as squeaky toy says..if situations were reversed this would be Emotional Abuse from an NPD bastard of the highest order!

In reality DH would probably be delighted with a bj and buggering off with the kids for the day ;)
