got a chance to go to the theatre with the DDs. something DH really wouldn't be interested in. (v cheap tickets - normally waaaaay out of my price range)

Should we go?

I can think of nothing, nothing I would prefer to do on Mother's Day thank for DH to take the kids out for a whole day while I mooch round the house and doze.

DD would be sad though. It's a bit like on my birthday we always seem to do family style things, so the dcs can be with me on my birthday (or at the weekend after) when what I'd really like is to be on my own for once. Grumble grumble....

(I do love the children, but I'm with one or other of them all the time and a little time to myself would be bliss)

YANBU, for many reasons. Father's day is a made up event. My DH wouldn't/doesn't even know it is father's day on Sunday. I feel very similar about Mother's day although it is a historical thing, to my mind it is just a cynical marketing ploy by hallmark. I am curmudeonly though.
With regard to who to take, I'd go with the friend TBH.

Ooh what threads were there on mothers day squeakytoy?

howabout · 15/06/2011 10:37

Is it thread hijacking if I ask the ancilliary, AIBU not to support Hallmark etc by buying a Father's Day card and just get DCs to make them?

piprabbit · 15/06/2011 10:41

howabout of course YANBU to make cards. Nothing says "I love you" like a card which appears to have paint sneezed over it.
