Good idea? I think so. I can't believe a single family receives this much already in benefits. It is about the same as the average income so it would be ridiculous for any one family to have more in benefits than someone that works?

Exactly Scarlett my mil lives in the SE,she'll have nobody near her when infirm as dp and his sister can't afford to live near her.

She's not a millionaire,we're not millionaires.

It's life.

onagar · 11/06/2011 18:39

MilaMae, you thought it meant that? really?

Al0uiseG · 11/06/2011 18:39

What we should be more concerned about is how the UK penalises through the tax system the traditional family set up. There are plenty of families struggling on less than 25k. These are the people who will only ever get job seekers allowance if they lose their jobs. This affects many more families than the benefit cap will ever do.

scarlettsmummy2 · 11/06/2011 18:41

that is nonsense about single parents not being able to afford childcare- they get 85% paid for them if they are on low income. I am presuming these cuts are for the unemployed and help with childcare for those who work won't be affected.

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:41

some are benefit bashing, that is clear, always goes this way and will continue to

on the "poor kids thread" peeps were stating the lifestyle some of these kids lived, and some peeps want to cut there benefit, give me strength

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:42

cap the benefit, who will suffer, you can bet the kids will

ooohyouareawfulbutilikeyou · 11/06/2011 18:43

amen to that

i said time and again no one, regardless of circumstances, kids, whathaveyou, should get handed more than many people earn . I emailed my MP about it many many times

you could hand out £55000 to some and they would still want more

MilaMae · 11/06/2011 18:45

Oh hear we go.

IT'S 25K!!!!!!!!!

Al0uiseG · 11/06/2011 18:46

Kids tend to suffer due to shit parenting.

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:47

alouiseG i agree but they will be the first to suffer

HuckingFell · 11/06/2011 18:47

Out of sheer curiosity I ran through a calc on the benefits checker for a working single parent of 4 with 150 pw rent/1200 council tax/120 pw childcare who earns gross 25k pa no maintenance.

total benefits(mixture of council tax/tax credits/housing/ would be

£22,704.32 pa
£434.24 weekly.

I think it is reasonable to say that support for working parents is pretty high so Mr C really is focusing his attention on encouraging people into work to gain income rather than not working for similar results.

HuckingFell · 11/06/2011 18:48

Must read more on reforms proper rather than just here...

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:50

just out of curiosity how much are all these wars etc per year costing

Al0uiseG · 11/06/2011 18:50

It's impossible for the government to parent by proxy though, we have some of the most generous benefits in the world already. What do some people want? An open cheque book?

MilaMae · 11/06/2011 18:51

Kids don't have to suffer.1000s of kids have a very nice life on very little.

I have friends on very low incomes with dps out of work or intermittent, they're on a lot less than 25K and their kids never suffer. They might not have all the latest gadgets but they have a lovely life.

It's insulting to say those with kids on less than 25K give their kids a shit life.

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:53

but the way they are reporting there making it sound like Utopia, and peeps that have no experience of the benefit system believe what dave spouts

TeddyRuxpin · 11/06/2011 18:53

I presume the people saying that benefits should not be capped and people who don't work should be allowed to have as many kids as they want are happy for their taxes and cost of living to go up to carry on supporting them?

FabbyChic · 11/06/2011 18:54

Ive just come off of benefits as I was unable to work due to sickness, in order to have the same lifestyle as being on benefits I had to get a job paying more than £16,000 a year.

thekidsrule · 11/06/2011 18:55

milamae,if your directing that at me you have misunderstood me

apologise if im confusing

lisad123 · 11/06/2011 18:56

I'm sad to say I have renewed my ctc and it's alot lower than last year. My two girls are still disabled, I still have four mouths to feed, I still have my tiny house to heat and still have my daughters specialist preschool to pay. :(

Glitterknickaz · 11/06/2011 18:56

For a family with three disabled children in the South East it won't cut it.

AlpinePony · 11/06/2011 18:56

Teddy, you talk as though you're referring to two groups of people. ;)

Al0uiseG · 11/06/2011 18:57

Well said TeddyRuxpin

cory · 11/06/2011 18:58

not even if the circumstances involve severe disability?

In the case of disabled children or their carers, money makes a huge difference. It is difficult for even the most loving and best principled parent to provide a lovely life if you cannot afford the equipment to lift your teenager or change his soiled nappy.

OpinionatedPlusSprogs · 11/06/2011 18:58

"that is nonsense about single parents not being able to afford childcare- they get 85% paid for them if they are on low income. I am presuming these cuts are for the unemployed and help with childcare for those who work won't be affected."

The tories have just cut that to 70%

30% of childcare costs is still a lot on a minimum wage .

If they want to get people back to work why this attack on working mums?
