You sound like a Psychiatric Nurse. That was an average day in the psychiatric acute admission ward for me - fair enough if it was true mental illness that caused people to be disturbed because they cant help it, but a lot of the time in my experience it wasnt.

I'd try and create some better strategies or preventions if possible, but sometimes all you can do is duck and count the bruises.

I am not a teacher or support worker but I work in an educational environment with teenagers who have behavioural, social and emotional difficulties - My job title has nothing to do with what I end up doing on a daily, and sometimes nightly, basis

I don't understand this thread. Either you want advice if you continue in your line of work, in which case you should state your line of work otherwise the thread is just a guessing game with no actual advice or you just want attention for what has happened to you hence the guessing game.

It is very tiring working with SEBD children and I imagine teens are even worse.

My sympathy , probably not on a great wage either. I did his kind of work with primary age children it is very tough i left after 3 years as had run out of steam. Still bear the physical scars today.

Yes, you have to have skin like a rhino (literally) and obviously be part of a fantastic team. But I love my job, admittedly not with teens.

I think the questions you really need to ask are: was this what you were expecting when you took the job? Do you enjoy your job? And are you supported by other staff members?

When I worked as a TA with children with BESD I used to be on the receiving end of all of the things you list. Although I did never have a chair hit my head, I have had to duck a fair few, and have been kicked or been hit by smaller things (books/pencils/sticks etc) several times.

And to a great extent I didn't mind - because I didn't take it personally and in general I loved my job. What I DID mind was that my management team made no effort to help deal with the issues (until it was one of them who got kicked - then the child was excluded).

I guess you need to question whether this is the right job for you, and if it is what your team can do to make life less anxious for you.
