Now don't get me wrong, I love Pret. I like the food and the staff and ignore the fact that they're partly owned by McDonalds BUT tuna nicoise is a fecking salad! It doesn't belong between two slices of bread.

YABU.

Hassled · 10/06/2011 14:54

I pciked one up once and put it back down for those very reasons. You wouldn't have a potato salad sandwich, would you? Or a coleslaw sandwich? Let salads be salads, I say.

nomoreheels · 10/06/2011 14:58

Oh, you get coleslaw sandwiches round 'ere... (manchester)

cybbo · 10/06/2011 14:59

Sounds delicious to me. 2 of my favourite things tuna, and boiled eggy peggy's

AlfalfaMum · 10/06/2011 15:00

yabu, I adore tuna nicoise sandwiches. Wish Pret would open a branch in Dublin :(

cybbo · 10/06/2011 15:00

I saw once an Italian restaurant serving up a chicken breast with a fried egg on the top, which seemed a bit incestuous to me

lynniep · 10/06/2011 15:00

I thought that today, about a prawn laksa sandwich they had in tesco ( I also thought the price of it was plain wrong)

fiorentina · 10/06/2011 15:01

I'm sorry, but you are wrong. I love that sandwich, and am now sitting here dreaming of one...

cybbo · 10/06/2011 15:03

I love Pret. The people who work there are so smiley. Well they are in my branch.

And I love the way they say how many calories in each thing.

And they give away their leftovers to charity at end of day

(and yes I know they are owned by Macdonalds)

GetOrf · 10/06/2011 15:05

You should go to Asda in Gloucester.

Last time in there I saw such gems as a fishfinger sandwich (came compkete with sachet of tomato sauce) and chip butty.

I actually think a tuna nicoise salad sounds inspired.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 15:06

lynnie, you ARE making that up about the prawn laksa sandwich aren't you?! Isn't a laksa a soup? How on earth does that work?
Oh God, just had a flashback to a discussion on here about lasagne sandwiches

cybbo, there is a Japanese dish called oyako don, which is a chicken and egg rice concoction. The translation is 'mother and child' Grin

OP posts:
CatIsSleepy · 10/06/2011 15:07

no opinion on the sarnie but Grin @ eggy peggy's

CatIsSleepy · 10/06/2011 15:09

i think if you're going to have fishfingers in a sandwich they have to be hot don't they? cold fishfingers are a bit grim

KnitterNotTwitter · 10/06/2011 15:10

I make a chicken and egg salad and call it 'before and after' salad...

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 15:10

Yes, hot fishfingers or none at all.

I run a sandwich business and one of our best selling sandwiches & baguettes is tuna, cheese & red onion. Sounds odd, tastes delicious! We do a nicoise salad but not sure about transferring it to sandwich.

LucyGoose · 10/06/2011 15:18

Lasagna sandwiches don't sound so bad.... You eat garlic bread with lasagna, might as well put it on the bread right?

MoreBeta · 10/06/2011 15:20

I like Pret too. Best cafe chain on the High St. Tuna Nicoise sandwich is great - the Italian sandwich shops in London were doing it back in the 1980s and before.

Pret are not owned by McDonalds. The US part was 33% owned briefly by McDonalds until 2008 when it sold to Bridgepoint Capital (Private Equity). Bridgepoint also bought a majority stake in the whole Pret business but the original founders and management team are significant shareholders.

Who owns Pret A Manger?

Pret A Manger is a private company. After 25 years, founders Julian Metcalfe and Sinclair Beecham are still significant shareholders. The majority stake of the company was acquired by European equity firm Bridgepoint in 2008.

Bridgepoint was chosen as a partner to Pret because the Bridgepoint team shares both the Pret vision and understands the Pret culture. It really is business as usual for the teams. Pret remains dedicated to selling freshly prepared, good, natural food.

Bridgepoint's investment is an opportunity to transform Pret A Manger from a domestic to an international business through controlled prudent expansion while maintaining everything that makes Pret work for both our customers and staff.

cybbo · 10/06/2011 15:20

anything with a chicken and an egg in it makes me feel a bit queasy to be honest

SuePurblybilt · 10/06/2011 15:21

You would indeed have a potato salad sandwich, it's very popular in Ireland. Mashed potatoes in mayo though, not usually lumps of new potato. I had a coleslaw salad sanger for my lunch today. Stuffing is popular too.

Best mixed with other fillings I do feel, stuffing or potato salad alone would be weird.

Honeydragon · 10/06/2011 15:21

did it have green beans in?

I once had a onion bhaji and salad sandwich, looked wrong tasted right

cybbo · 10/06/2011 15:22

And Cat theres nowt as tasty as a morsel of cold fish finger snaffled from an unsuspecting childs plate

Honeydragon · 10/06/2011 15:23

I once caught my Brother putting potato salad on a jacket potato.

Strong words were had.

Pumpernickel10 · 10/06/2011 15:23

Sounds lovely to me I would have one I think your being a wee silly

chirpchirp · 10/06/2011 15:25

Hmmm not sure about a lasagna sandwhich, I will however always keep back a big spoonful of bolognese to have in a wrap for lunch the next day.
