to think that Pret a Manger's tuna nicoise sandwich is a bit, well, wrong?

Now don't get me wrong, I love Pret. I like the food and the staff and ignore the fact that they're partly owned by McDonalds BUT tuna nicoise is a fecking salad! It doesn't belong between two slices of bread.

You MUST have butter on a bacon sarnie....

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 16:28

My DP, earlyish in the relationship, made me a bacon sarnie and buttered it.

I had to think pretty seriously about the state of the relationship, and our future.

But the butter melts and just adds that extra lusciousness. On fresh baked white bread. mmmmmmmmmmm

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 10/06/2011 16:54

No.

My guilty pleasure is a pizza sandwich, Small mini cheese pizza between white buttered bread with mayo (Has to be helmanns) Cheese, brussel sprout and mayo or a yummy bolognaise sandwich.
(runs and hides)

Jules, a brussels sprouts and bolognaise combo is the sandwich from hell as far as I'm concerned.

But I agree, mayo MUST be Helmanns. And I mean not only as opposed to cheap shit mayo, but also as opposed to poncey organic stuff or homemade.

butter AND ketchup a must on a bacon sandwich!

Attention food combo experts! What do you think of this:

Lasagna, chips and coleslaw.

It was on the menu at a (very nice) cafe. I said coleslaw was a bloody weird thing to have with lasagna and asked if they would give me salad instead. DH claims I was being fussy! I maintain that nobody could possibly eat lasagna and coleslaw together.

LadyClariceCannockMonty · 11/06/2011 14:40

I think lasagne and coleslaw is unorthodox but yum.

But of course there is NO butter on a bacon sandwich.

Ketchup if you must.

butter and ketchup in my bacon sarnie... and a fried egg please :)

I don't object to the idea of a tuna nicoise sandwich. A sandwich is just supposed to be a way of making eating a meal more convenient by sticking it between two slices of bread.

I do however object to the half vat of devil's spaff (aka mayonnaise) that I anticipate Pret will have added to it. Bleughhhhhhhhhh.

Pret isn't owned by McDonald's! Where did you get that idea? At one point McDonald's owned a 30% share in Pret, but had no influence whatsoever on Pret and decision making, it was purely financial. We are now owned by an investment company called bridgepoint. With Julian Metcalfe owning a minority share. However he has now left Pret to concentrate on his other business venture Itsu, which he co-owns with the CEO of Pret. So Itsu is Prets little brother.

As for the staff, it's our policy to higher based on their behaviours and this is where Pret really differs from other companies its not management who does the hiring, it's their peers. When someone comes for a job in Pret, they have to complete a day training in the store that they wish to work in. At the end of the day, everyone votes and either they are hired or not. At the end of the day it's the team who has to work with them, not the managers. So why should the managers decide? We also spend vast amounts on staff welfare. And we have Parties, lots of parties!!!
