MmeBlueberry I was responding to your snide remark about dogs not being interested in me and my children. Every dog owner is the same. Their dogs 'are only being friendly'. Their dogs 'are no trouble'. Or - and this was what the owner of the dog who attacked DS and left him with permanent scarring said 'He's only a puppy'.

I would happily see dogs banned from every public place, not just beaches.

Threadworm8 · 03/06/2011 22:42

Yuk, Milly. So clearly it is the done thing to roll next to the seal corpse, in a modification of the normal technique of rolling on top of smaller, more mangeable rotting dead animals. Sensible I suppose.

pooka · 03/06/2011 22:43

That doesn't work if they've shat at the back of the beach, in sand that doesn't get washed every high tide, Eggyallenpoe

I'm torn - I'm not mad keen on dogs generally but I actually like seeing doing going nuts on a beach and frolicking in the waves,
. Have often said to dh I almost wish you could rent a dog for the beach (obviously not seriously, but it's the only time I really see their point).

But but but - I wish I could annihilate every bloody dog owner that cannot be fucked to pick up after their dog if it has had a crap. Even if on the low tide sand, it's still minging if just left there. I think most beaches round here (we're on holiday in cornwall) are dog tolerant and have loads of dog crap bins. A couple aren't. Or I assume they're dog friendly - there were heaps on the beach earlier including a couple of fantstic pointers carreering at full sped through the shallows :j they were ACE.

Agree with regards to pepe leaving stuff behind. Still hot barbecues are terribly dangerous. But pure danger aside, nothing makes me heaves quite as much as stepping in dog shite, or the dcs barefoot stepping in crap. Is grim :(

DooinMeCleanin · 03/06/2011 22:44

My children play in my yard. My dogs poo in the yard. I clean the poo, much as when I am out with them.

And yy to banning jellyfish. And bbqs, they should also be banned.

MmeBlueberry · 03/06/2011 22:44

My dog is simply not interested in people. She has enough people in her own family. She lives to sniff other dogs' bottoms. Your precious children are not precious to my dog. Not even a bit. If they try to pet her, she will sidestep them.

thebestisyettocome · 03/06/2011 22:45

I walk my dog on a beach all year round and always clear up my dog's mess. In summer months it's amazing how many dirty nappies are left strewn around. Perhaps children should also be banned?

PaddingtonStare · 03/06/2011 22:45

trying, my DC, when babies/toddlers, shared the garden with our dogs, just as they do now. Most of us pick up poo, be it from the garden or beach/fields/park.

I think you're trying to use a sledgehammer to crack a nut. Why should the majority - ie the responsible dog owners - suffer because of the minority? That's a bit like saying that all children should be banned from the parks because some chase pigeons, throw stones at ducks or torment other people's dogs.

Agree they do have to go somewhere......so why not more dog toilets in public places??

Still really wanting to know about the garden thing and young children.....

Bloody iPhone. Crappy spelling.

MmeBlueberry · 03/06/2011 22:46

Honestly, theta sigma, my dog wouldn't give two hoots about you. I doubt i would either unless you exhibited antisocial behaviour.

MillyR · 03/06/2011 22:46

Pooka, the dog bins might be there for the part of the year that the beach is open to dogs.

WorzselMummage · 03/06/2011 22:48

I've just come back from the Isle of Wight today and spent lots of time on the beach there with Dogs as they seem to be allowed.

Its not the dogs that cause the problem on beaches ( all the ones we met were great!) it's fuckwit owners.. same as always.

tryingtobemarypoppins2 · 03/06/2011 22:49

PaddingtonStare I get what your saying.......I would agree if you dogs had to be on a lead and could only poo in poo areas.......somehow dog poo on the beach seems so much worse than cow poo in a field......????

PaddingtonStare · 03/06/2011 22:50

thetasigmamum, most dogs are "no trouble". That's why dogs are one of the most popular pets in the UK. Thousands and thousands of us have dogs being no trouble, living with our families, about which you hear nothing because there is nothing to hear.

"Paddington's Dogs Lay On Children's Beds Snoring" is not news. So, details of my troublefree dogs never reach your ears. Same for 99.9% of the rest of dogs and their families.

about equal would you say?

pooka · 03/06/2011 22:53

No - the dog bins in the dunes here all year. Am certain I have seen them here off season too, and as far as I am aware dogs not banned in summer months on this or several other nearby beaches.

While all these dog owners are on one thread, can I ask for advice? My dog has ripped its dew claw (not sure of the spelling) open today. Do you think I can leave going to the vets until Monday?

Threadworm8 · 03/06/2011 22:57

Ow that sounds sore. Unfortunately I would think that treatment would be better sooner rather than later.
