Get him or her sacked.

"That reality"? It has been decided by the law makers that you can change. Feel free to change the law, but until then trans-men are men and trans-women are women. Calling women 'he' will get you sacked.

Wow. Its like sitting in a room with a First Year Uni student who has been to their first ever feminist seminar.

Maybe biologically if you are born a man or woman, you can't change that combination of X and Y chromosones.

However, if you are so certain that you are born the wrong sex that you live your life as the opposite sex and have surgery to remove or reform your genetalia and everything else that such changes entail then frankly I think your choice should be respected and accepted as should your new identity and no one should tell you that you are not really a Man or a Woman.

Yes Babyheave. It's basic politeness really.

You're right babyheave, your post was just like hearing from a 'First Year Uni student who has been to their first ever feminist seminar'.

Dittany, spot on as ever. Thanks for taking on this issue.

Did you study sockpuppetry at Uni Lumpy?

I was just referring to the fact that generally when you start out studying Women Studies you start of with feminist theory - a lot of what I have read on this thread reminds me of that. Spouting of theory and nothing else.

Later when you start to study gender and cultural issues, you realise that the theory can be flawed when applied across the board and you appreciate that not everything is so black and white. Well. Some people do.

To quote Bell Hooks "feminism is for everybody". I'm pretty sure that when she said that, she didn't mean "so long as they stick rigidly to theory and don't have a penis".
