Is having pubic hair deemed unhygienic

Just following on from another thread.
Do people see others who don't shave or wax down below as unhygienic.
Personally I'm smooth below but that's my preference.
What's others views on this?

See. Knew there'd be at least one tragicallyhip Wink Grin

LadyThumb · 24/05/2011 11:19

Why would you want to look like a little girl? It grows for a reason, you know!

TragicallyHip · 24/05/2011 11:21

I thought I'd be the one Wink

StayingDavidTennantsGirl · 24/05/2011 11:21

I don't shave because I want to look like a little girl - and that is actually quite an offensive suggestion to me. I shave because I like the way it feels - it is more comfortable for me.

DorisIsAPinkDragon · 24/05/2011 11:21

It's not unhygenic but there may be a sociological reason for the belief.

I lived in Turkey for a while and my boyfriend of the time found it really odd that I didn't shave it all off (as he did) as for him that was the norm.

CharlotteBronteSaurus · 24/05/2011 11:21

i thought the evolutionary purpose of public hair was to keep the area clean - bit like eyelashes/brows keep stuff out of your eyes

EricNorthmansMistress · 24/05/2011 11:22

When I shave my knickers end up more icky at the end of the day so I assume 'natural secretions' get caught by the pubes. So not unhygienic but needs to be washed regularly. But then so does a shaved fanjo...

TurtlesAreRetroRight · 24/05/2011 11:26

It saddens me when you see beautiful birthing vids on YouTube and flocks of people exclaim 'eugh why has she hair down there?' and make ridiculous associations, claiming it dirty or hippy like. I don't give a stuff what any woman does with her pubic hair, if she's happy but I don't like the judging that goes on. And of course it goes both ways.

LRDTheFeministDragon · 24/05/2011 11:27

I'm more icked out by the idea that the secretions that need to be washed off hair, are absolutely fine just wiped off skin ... especially if the skin is covered in little holes where the hair has been pulled out.

But I am fairly OTT about being clean, I admit.

AKissIsNotAContract · 24/05/2011 11:30

Lady thumb: So does facial hair but I don't fancy having a beard.

FabbyChic · 24/05/2011 11:52

Having shaved for over ten years, I have to say that it never itches me when it grows back, and I don't get any shavers rash either.

For me it feels cleaner, and personally oral sex is far better with no bush underneath. I do leave a line remaining above.

worraliberty · 24/05/2011 11:57

What Fabby said.

For me it just feels cleaner even though I bath/shower every day. Also, oral sex is definitely better because it's more sensitive IME.

worraliberty · 24/05/2011 11:58

That would be oral sex with my DH of course...not with Fabbychic Blush

Quenelle · 24/05/2011 11:59

I've always wondered, if you have dark hair and wax it how long do you have to let it grow before you can wax it again?

knittedbreast · 24/05/2011 12:00

to my generation its seen as yucky to have hair. mine is shaved at the front and the hair on the underside is trimmed. i quite like a bit of hair

Mumswang · 24/05/2011 12:01

I have a full wax but have to say I think it's all a bit clammier with nothing there, I think having hair kind of channels away natural secretions and holds them safely until you have a (presumably more or less daily) wash

my reasons for waxing have nothing to do with wanting to look like a young girl, believe me it would take more than the absence of a muff for that to happen

I just find it easier to whip it all off than to shave or wax some bits and leave others, bit like a man with those bizarre triangles of beard under their lip, and yes, it affects sex in certain (good) ways

ScousyFogarty · 24/05/2011 12:01

PUBIC often confused with PUBLIC rather funny

FabbyChic · 24/05/2011 12:03

Worral! ha ha

WoTmania · 24/05/2011 12:03

I'm 30 (just) and I really can't be bothered with hair removal. I might do my legs if wearing a skirt and bare legs in the summer but other than that? Pah! I like my Ladygarden in full bloom.

Im 46! Oooh been shaving longer than 10 years, keep forgetting how old I am. Shaving since I was 30.

rey · 24/05/2011 12:04

Another area of being female that's an absolute nusiance. I wish that if you chose to shave there or in the armpits or on the legs etc that it would just be considered as personal choice for that time/season, like whether a female choses to wear a pair of trousers that day or a skirt. Why can't it just be a choice and not what's best. Not a feminist... but... why can't female just make choices for the sake of it and not because others think urgh or otherwise.

Personally I shave or not depending on the weather but wish that there were times I didn't feel I have to.

WoTmania · 24/05/2011 12:05

I wear short style bikini bottoms to save others from the sight :) hehe, my under arms....well why would they want to look so closely?

Firawla · 24/05/2011 12:07

of course its more hygenic not to have hair, that is just logic surely
as for whoever said its less hygenic because then people won't wash, its not an either/or thing, don't you think people who dont keep hair also wash themselves? some people if they leave themselves hairy and don't wash with water each time they go to the toilet, that is a bit towards the unhygenic side, i don't see how people can think it is not?

AKissIsNotAContract · 24/05/2011 12:15

'don't wash with water each time they go to the toilet'

Are you referring to hand washing or cunt washing here?
