Does anybody actually know anyone who had an ELCS just because they thought they were "too posh to push"?

Just watching the Wright stuff. One of the hot topics is that apparently ELCS rates being performed by the NHS are rising because people are deciding they are "too posh to push" and it's costing the NHS lots of money. Hmm

They are suggesting that these women should be offered psychiatric counselling to bring them round to the idea of having a vaginal birth.

Now correct me if I'm wrong, but I was given an ELCS because my dd was breech and was in fact strongly advised to (not given much choice in fact) and anyone else I know who's had one has been offered it because of significant trauma or complications in a previous birth.

I have never however met a woman who insisted on one on the NHS just cause she didn't fancy pushing it out of her fanny, and I doubt the NHS would go with this anyway tbh...

And if they're talking about women who have real fears and emotional distress regarding child-birth, then yes of course lets force the hysterical wench to push it out, does she not know how much money she's costing the NHS? Hmm

Oh how I love the way the media portray these issues...[sigh] Yes perhaps ELCS rates are rising and perhaps this should be addressed in some way, but to suggest it is for such fickle reasons is so juvenile. Angry Perhaps it is the HCPs fault and not the whole female population who are apparently too cowardly to push their babies out?

Seriously? You can write shit, but ..... Out vagina?

Or did she say cunt? Grin, because tbh, if she did and you trying to bring a little decorum and civility to the thread it's waaaaay to late.

It's reduced to random anecdote and petty accusation now, so a rude word won't go amiss.Wink

I'm glad I didn't hide this thread after all. Always good to see them descend into swearing Grin.

"Perhaps if we sacked all the csection bean counters and invested in actual antenatal care and facilities, this issue would cease to exist?"

There will always be those who need CS because they and/or their babies would not survive a VB.

Even among the rest, there will always be those whose bodies and/or minds are so ravaged by previous VB that it is not human or even rational to expect them to do it again when there is another way to deliver their babies.

What I am trying to say is that "this issue" will not cease to exist whoever you sack because it is not the "bean counters" causing these problems.

Honeydragon · 29/05/2011 10:07

Cote..... that's sort of what I was trying to say (twas late). The main gist of articles are that csections are expensive, therefore the rate is too high, and those choosing a section are slated for taking the expensive "easy" option.

We have a good record for safe births in the UK so we must be doing something right?

By sacking the bean counters I meant money for more general support to get the birth you feel you need, rather than the one that fills the correct quota or ticks the right box.

One thing that this thread has highlighted, and surely needs to be changed is this odd opinion that the birth you have had says something about you, somehow?

The concept of how you choose to deliver your baby somehow influences what type of mother you'll be, or how strong you are is utterly ridiculous and stupidly outdated. Children are precious and any birth is a miracle. Not something to be sneered at.

Just as I wouldn't feel it was my place to comment how sperm got in to start the process (you conceived doggy style, really Hmm, have you considered the missionary position? Not as pleasant a experience but so much more rewarding when you do conceive?) I don't think it's anyone's place to comment on what birth a woman chooses. Not unless you have a genuine, invested interest in the mental and physical health and well being of that woman.

Mollydoll here and I can assure you I'm not teaforone whoever said that your mad. Just because I failed to insult the women like some I'm deemed to be her. My policy I dont insult people.

Honeydragon · 29/05/2011 10:15

Mollydollydoll don't worry, I don't think the majority think that, I've read the whole post and didn't even notice any inference to that. Until the scary shouty capitals turned up anyway Smile

Mollydollydoll · 29/05/2011 10:30

Thisisourtime just re read what posts there were lastnight after I went to bed and what made you say that? Looks like someone was stirring the shit. Very troll like behaviour as I said I don't insult folk but for you I will make an exception

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 29/05/2011 10:31

This is what I don't understand.. it's a woman's body and her choice. Whether a CS is performed for a 'pukka' medical reason or because of a fear of vaginal birth or because it's Thursday... how does it matter? The procedure is performed by a medical professional who agrees to carry it out.

Why intelligent women give a stuff what Matthew Wright, Lorraine Kelly or whoever else, says about anything is completely beyond me. Confused

xstitch · 29/05/2011 11:24

teenytiny have you actually read the whole thread?

Mollydollydoll · 29/05/2011 11:29

Teenytiny I know plenty of mothers who have had a natural birth and guess what they are still tight down below.

Mollydollydoll · 29/05/2011 11:33

Oh and tiny you reckon I should have had a natural birth and left my baby without a mother. What a stupid uneducated thing to say. Read the WHOLE thread lady it's nowt to do with too posh too push or laziness it's to do with medical reasons.

Honeydragon · 29/05/2011 11:35

that's true, I've had a section and vb and still reckon I could crack a walnut if I tried Wink

xstitch · 29/05/2011 11:35

I may be a total twat but I am an alive twat with a live child, perhaps some people would prefer a dead twat.

xstitch · 29/05/2011 11:37

Please don't try honey

Mollydollydoll · 29/05/2011 11:37

Honey same as my friend some people need to know facts.

Mollydollydoll · 29/05/2011 11:38

Xstitch your like me I'd rather be a live twat than a dead one which would have happened if I did not have a c section. Some people need to know facts before spouting such rubbish
