I am [shocked] that this is a story tbh, just a group of ladies having fun on a hen night in their own time, there are no children or animals involved, and nobody is having sex in the photos so what! The parents reaction is too strong, as long as the teachers teach their children well so what! So they sit at home and have no fun then! Don't tell me that they have never had any fun themselves! So teachers should sit at home watching Embarassing Bodies on a Friday and Sat night then, to have fun and laughs with their mates would be Shock, really the mentality of some peopl.

Exactly my sons tutor who is a primary school teacher told me they are warned in training DO NOT ADD ANY STUDENTS OR THEIR PARENTS AND MAKE SURE YOUR PROFILE IS PRIVATE SO YOU CANNOT EVEN BE SEARCHED FOR

And this is exactly the reason if your a doctor its not professional to add your patients so why oh why do some teachers despite the warnings they get still think its a good idea to add parents , students or to have their profile open.

maypole1 · 21/05/2011 11:21

If you leave your front door open you may get robed if you leave your facebook open some people may see things they don't like not less you employer people often get sacked from jobs because their boss is less than impressed on what on their page or what they have said about their jobs

Who difficult is it not to have your picture on your profile and put settings to private

crashingwaves · 21/05/2011 11:21

But that hasn't happened here maypole and like I say, if you are like my poor dad and only use FB occasionally ... :-/

The thing is, if my profile was open there wouldn't be anything untoward on it. I have a DepHead from a past school on my friends list and I checked before I accepted him Grin Just nice happy updates, a few family/wedding shots is all.

I only use FB occasionally - if I was tagged in pics like the ones I wouldn't think I'd done anything wrong!? Surely if something is wrong or inappropriate then it shouldn't be on there - I don't think hen night pics are either to be honest!

crashingwaves · 21/05/2011 11:24

Oh and if children see them - I would say to DS that sometimes young adults do like to go to bars and pubs and I am sure he will at the same age!

crashingwaves · 21/05/2011 11:27

Yeah but maypole front door unlocked or not a crime was still committed.

edam · 21/05/2011 11:27

I think the police should go round to this horrible parent and explain that blackmail is a crime. And that the human rights act gives you a legal right to respect for your private life.

It may not have been a teacher who posted this on an open profile but someone else who was on the hen night.

Birdsgottafly · 21/05/2011 11:32

edam-unfortunatly once you 'sign up' as a member of a professional body, you have to follow a 'code of conduct' and the law does not apply, it would be an abuse of power for the police to get involved.

reallytired · 21/05/2011 11:32

I can understand why teachers get into a mess with facebook. It is quite easy to think your settings are private then download something from facebook and have all your settings made public without you knowing.

Also sometimes "friends" put photos on their sites. Or pictures get tagged.

I feel sorry for the teachers. They might be a bit dippy when it comes to eSafety, but they certain don't deserve to be torn apart by the daily mail. They do not deserve to lose their careers.

If my son's teacher behaved like this, I would think "good on them!". I woud provide them with a hang over cure for their end of term present. :)

Birdsgottafly · 21/05/2011 11:33

Sometimes you have to drop friends once you qualify, as unpleasant as that is, you have to pick the company that you keep, wisely.

Oh, FFS, the pics aren't even that bad. Teachers having fun?! Shock horror!

edam · 21/05/2011 11:36

Birds - the parent who posted the pictures through peoples' letterboxes is not bound by any code of conduct. She is guilty of blackmail. And codes of conduct don't make a professional body above the law, anyway. The General Teaching Council could take disciplinary action against a teacher, but it can't say to that teacher 'you are not protected by the law if a parent hits you/slanders you/does something else illegal'.

TheCrackFox · 21/05/2011 11:38

I've just looked at the photos and I am struggling to see what is shocking about them. They are holding a couple of drinks, modestly dressed and as far as I can see there is no pole dancing.

The woman who "discovered" these photos really needs to get a life. When even the comments on the Daily Mail web site are over whelmingly supportive of the teachers involved it indicates that the this is a complete non story.

nickelbabe · 21/05/2011 11:38

I still don't understand how the children tehy teach will see the pictures on Facebook -the headline states Primary School Teachers, and the minimum age for a fb accoutn is 13 - so if the kids see them, it's got to be because they've been shown them by their parents, right? Confused

Nanny0gg · 21/05/2011 11:39

There was nothing wrong with their night out and it shouldn't have been a story. The DM and the parent who printed the pictures were out of order.
However - their privacy settings should be checked, and they were daft to put the pictures on FB in the first place. One day they really could have detrimental effect on their careers or lives.

Pictish · 21/05/2011 11:42

Am shocked that a parent printed the pics off and put them through the neighbours doors!!!!

Jesus, I will never understand why so many people are hell bent on getting involved with, and opinionating on, the comings and goings of people that are nothing whatsoever to do with them, and don't affect them in the slightest.

Tbh I see alot of it on here - stickybeaks, nosey parkers, bosom hoikers, meddlesome twats, all pecking around and flapping their wings like distressed hens.

It's major pet peeve of mine. Fuck off and worry about your own affairs, and leave everyone else alone.

Wouldn't be surprised if the 'concerned' parent was a reg on here. Wink

pigletmania · 21/05/2011 11:47

birds why should you drop friends because of being a teacher Hmm. These pictures were not bad at all, just what happens up and down the country on a hen night, shock horror teachers have a life outside school and have fun. There is nothing illegal going on there, no fanjos or breasts on show. Like others have said they might be another friends pictures, sometimes if somebody else tags you in a picture it appreares on your Facebook in your profile for all your FB to see, and you have no control over that.

tallulahxhunny · 21/05/2011 11:48

i have never even thought of teachers in my kids school having facebook, It seriously never crossed my mind! weird people to go looking for your kids teacher and through thier pics???? stalkerish is it not?

pigletmania · 21/05/2011 11:48

pictish I totally agree with you wholeheartedly.

OP posts:
tallulahxhunny · 21/05/2011 11:48

i wonder how many people have now looked in facebook for thier kids teacher since this came out lol

worraliberty · 21/05/2011 11:54

Most schools have an E-Policy that specifically mentions social networking sites and the do's and don'ts...including making accounts secure and not adding pupils and parents.

But to be fair, FB keep tinkering about with the bloody site and changing privacy settyings.

lilolilmanchester · 21/05/2011 11:54

oh FFS! I'm not a teacher but Shock at the reaction. If they were pissed & dancing round poles in front of the kids then that's a different matter. But what's the different between teachers having a night out like that and parents? WOnder if the pious old bags complaining about this would report us all to social services?

worraliberty · 21/05/2011 11:55

sometimes if somebody else tags you in a picture it appreares on your Facebook in your profile for all your FB to see, and you have no control over that

Yes you do. You just go into privacy settings and change it so only you can see photos you've been tagged in.

Abra1d · 21/05/2011 12:06

Pole dancing is tacky. Most hens' nights are pretty tacky, too. Just because their vaginas aren't on display doesn't mean it's not tacky. I hate the idea of women playing out some dated, clicheed, juvenile yet simultaneously over-sexualised image of themselves.

And this is the woman who might be teaching young girls.

worraliberty · 21/05/2011 12:08

Hey, people enjoy tacky Hen nights and they should be free to do so without judgement from others.

Your idea of fun might be nothing like my idea Abra1d but I wouldn't judge you for it as long as you're not hurting anyone.
