to be fed up with the amounts of shoes everyone needs

Ds - school shoes, football boots, running spikes, nice trainers, scruffy trainers, wellies, flip-flops
Dd1 - school shoes, PE trainers, home trainers, white lace-up plimsols, black lace-up plimsols, dressy shoes, beachy shoes, wellies
Dd2 - trainers, sandals, wellies, white lace-up plimsols, black lace-up plimsols, nursery indoor shoes

That's an obscene amount! Various rants involved. We need so many pairs of plimsols for dance shows. They must be lace-up, so they can put different colour laces in. Dd1 has co-ordination problems and dd2 is too young, so they can't use these for PE or nursery because they have to do them themselves. Therefore need velcro ones too

Wellies, not particularly well used, but you can guarantee that as soon as someone doesn't have a pair that fits, they will immediately have a trip come up with wellies essential, despite the fact the ground is bone-dry and no rain forecast.

Dressy shoes, again the minute they don't fit (but haven't been worn for 6 months) you get an invite to a wedding. Dd1 can't use school shoes, because the only school shoes we could get supportive enough are like black trainers.

Running spikes, ds is very talented at long jump, but rarely gets the opportunity to do it, but on the odd occasion he does spikes are the difference between 1st and 10th place.

And of course all this stuff gets grown out of continuously. Do the rest of you have the same constant demand for shoes? I personally own 2 pairs of shoes.

I don't know what reefs are, but I'm certain I don't own any.

CurrySpice · 15/05/2011 18:09

Oh quackquack I hadn't even seen your post when I said that. I'm sorry if I implied you were being nasty. You weren't!

I was trying hard myself not to say anything rude - that's what I was trying to say about saying nothing!! :o

DD: 1 pair school shoes, 1 pair trainers, 1 pair flip flops, 1 pair ballet pumps black, 1 pair ballet pumps with strap (bronze), 1 pair grey canvas pumps, 1 pair wellies, three pairs slippers!

DS: 1 pair school shoes, 1 pair trainers, 1 pair football/rugby boots, 1 pair cricket spikes, 1 pair ski boots, 1 pair black Vans, 1 grey fake Vans.

Me: (oh dear [embarrassed]). three pairs black sandals, 1 pair black dressy shoes, 1 pair high heeled black evening shoes, 1 pair black court shoes, 1 pair black ballet pumps, 1 pair low navy shoes smart, 1 pair heeled navy shoes, 1 pair bronze wedges, 1 pair bronze sandals, 1 pair walking trainers, 1 pair wellingtons, 1 pair black ankle boots, 1 pair black knee boots, 1 pair flip flops, 1 pair slippers. Could do with a pair of white casual sandals.

DH: two pairs formal black lace-ups, one pair brown lace ups, one pair deck shoest, one pair trainers, one pair football boots.

You can get them in lots of pretty colours, but yes casual.

So what do you wear with them to weddings? And what did you wear to your own?

PumpkinSnatch · 16/05/2011 13:05

I am imagining a long hippyish skirt with lots of bangles - am I right dealer?

CurrySpice · 16/05/2011 14:30

QuackQuack, the OP wore reefs to her own wedding

PumpkinSnatch · 16/05/2011 16:37

Well you may all laugh but if the wedding was on a beach in the Seychelles I think they'd look rather nice with a bikini and a sarong.

dealer · 16/05/2011 17:05

Sorry to disappoint but a registry office in England.
But yes a hippyish type dress (no bangles though).

I'm quite hippyish in clothing, but I definitely don't do any crystals, weird therapies, or generally 'wooo' stuff, I just look like I do.

Good on you for sticking to your style. My wedding guests were all pretty conventional dressers but if I had any friends who wore goth/hippy/biker style clothes all the time I would find it more weird if they turned up to my wedding looking like they'd had a Gok Wan style makeover done on them.

I'm impressed dealer that 2 pairs of shoes are enough for you, at least they get well worn.

Shoes and boots are my 'thing' and I own over a hundred pairs, about 8 pairs of them are Haivaianas (sp.) but never paid full price for them.

DD 20 months has about 6 pairs of shoes that fit plus about 3 pairs of unworn sandals to take away on a long summer holiday. My shoes fetish stretches to DD!!

DS has 4 pairs of shoes and is only 3 months old!! Pleased to say that I haven't bought any of them myself.
