to be fed up with the amounts of shoes everyone needs

Ds - school shoes, football boots, running spikes, nice trainers, scruffy trainers, wellies, flip-flops
Dd1 - school shoes, PE trainers, home trainers, white lace-up plimsols, black lace-up plimsols, dressy shoes, beachy shoes, wellies
Dd2 - trainers, sandals, wellies, white lace-up plimsols, black lace-up plimsols, nursery indoor shoes

That's an obscene amount! Various rants involved. We need so many pairs of plimsols for dance shows. They must be lace-up, so they can put different colour laces in. Dd1 has co-ordination problems and dd2 is too young, so they can't use these for PE or nursery because they have to do them themselves. Therefore need velcro ones too

Wellies, not particularly well used, but you can guarantee that as soon as someone doesn't have a pair that fits, they will immediately have a trip come up with wellies essential, despite the fact the ground is bone-dry and no rain forecast.

Dressy shoes, again the minute they don't fit (but haven't been worn for 6 months) you get an invite to a wedding. Dd1 can't use school shoes, because the only school shoes we could get supportive enough are like black trainers.

Running spikes, ds is very talented at long jump, but rarely gets the opportunity to do it, but on the odd occasion he does spikes are the difference between 1st and 10th place.

And of course all this stuff gets grown out of continuously. Do the rest of you have the same constant demand for shoes? I personally own 2 pairs of shoes.

I put kids' trainers in the WM but not my own leather shoes, no! Shock

scottishmummy · 14/05/2011 20:27

how hell can you wash high heels in a wmch?

PumpkinSnatch · 14/05/2011 20:28

Curryspice mine don't smell because they're cheap plastic crap and actually quite waterproof. My feet don't sweat either cos I've got poor circulation so my hands/feet are always freezing cold.

dealer · 14/05/2011 21:00

Ooh, maybe that's why I don't have excessive smell problems. My circulation is rubbish too.

I've not actually worn the trainers (apart from basketball) since about Feb, and they were quite new then, so I'm not sure these ones have been through the maching. Previous ones were material.

Much more shocked by pumpkin living in ballet flats than OP living in trainers and reefs. Ballet flats are shockingly bad for you, and personally they cripple me (though I live in London and don't drive, so I walk A Lot).

I would rant about how unhealthy it is to wear the same pair every day, but actually DH has only 1 pair of shoes (black Doctor Martins), plus a pair of converse that he wears once a year for his firm's annual rounders match. It's a bit of a sore point with me, because I used to live in my Docs until one day I went to replace them and they'd changed the shape so they no longer fitted me. Bastards.

lljkk · 15/05/2011 10:46

Heehee... people are way too opinionated about other folks' footwear.
And everybody spends a fortune on something; even the skintest people I know spend a lot of money on things I see no value in. Better spent on quality and loved shoes than lottery tickets or beer, anyway.

Drying trainers:
are you radiators on in summer half of the year? Many people don't have a hot airing cupboard, either.

QuackQuackBoing · 15/05/2011 10:56

And yes I do wear reefs to weddings....including my own wedding!!

So when you go to weddings you wear casual style flips flops? What do you wear them with? I'm guessing you have a casual style.

I though wearing the same shoes for exercise that you wear for every day stuff was supposed to be really bad for your feet?

2littlegreenmonkeys · 15/05/2011 11:06

I own only 2 pairs of shoes, Birkenstock sandals for summer and a pair of winter shoes. I also own a pair of slippers but I don't count them as shoes Grin

DD1 has too many shoes for various things to count
DD2 has a pair of dress shoes, a pair of trainers, a pair of sandals and some wellies.
DH has 2 pairs also, his dad to day trainers and posh shoes for wedding, funerals, and christenings.

I also despair at the amount of shoes the DD's 'need'.

QuackQuackBoing · 15/05/2011 11:11

2littlegreenmonkeys

So what do you wear to weddings etc?

PlanetEarth · 15/05/2011 11:12

Quite agree. DD's feet have grown lots lately and I've had to replace school shoes, winter boots (could have skipped these but it was really snowy and cold), plimsolls for school sports, outdoor trainers, walking boots, wellies, and probably others that I've forgotten. V. expensive!

maighdlin · 15/05/2011 11:22

MY 21mo DD has 7 pairs of shoes.

I easily have 50

DH has work boots and a pair of trainers.

2littlegreenmonkeys · 15/05/2011 13:07

The last wedding I went to was my own and I had a pair of wedding shoes which I have sold as I would have never worn them again. I find it difficult to wear anything with a heel of sorts and I struggle to find shoes that are comfy and that is my main priority for shoes. I find heels really uncomfortable and don't go out often enough to warrant a new pair of shoes.

I would rather put the money into savings.

FriskyMare · 15/05/2011 13:40

DD (13) has school shoes, ugg boots, 2 pairs trainers(one stays at school), converse, plimsols, ballet flats, crocs, wellies, moccasins, black heels & walking boots.
DS (11) has school shoes, trainers, black boots, desert boots, converse, wellies and walking boots.
Can't bring myself to count how many pairs I have but includes at least 5 pairs of birkenstock, 2 pairs wedges (one black one yellow), trainers, heels, boots, loafers .......
We have 3 shoe cupboards and they are all full to bursting :)

dealer · 15/05/2011 13:58

My trainers don't get wet in the summer, because the only time I wear them in the summer is for sport. I literally wear my reefs from March to October for everything else.
I'm actually considering going into the village this afternoon to buy more reefs, because I'm concerned that my existing pair are going to fall apart when I'm on holiday. Therefore, i may soon own 3 pairs of shoes. Hooray!!!

FattyAcid · 15/05/2011 14:01

My dd has slippers, wellies, trainers kept at school, trainers at home, crocs, school shoes, converse style boots, wedding shoes....and breathe....

I have more pairs than that, probably more than double

SummerRain · 15/05/2011 14:04

dd: 2 pairs of school shoes (one pair was a bit too big at school start but bizarrely she still fits into the smaller pair I bought as back ups now that the better pair fit), canvas shoes for outside, wellies, football boots and 2 pairs of runners

ds1: school shoes, sketchers, sandals, clogs for the garden, wellies and football boots

ds2: 2 pairs of runners, wellies and sandals

me: 2 pairs of runners, 2 pairs of boots, 2 pairs of sandals, 2 pairs of going out shoes and wellies

dp: runners and good shoes

My hall is a swamp of shoes Sad

CurrySpice · 15/05/2011 14:08

I've just looked on the Reefs web site OP and they seem to be...erm...flip flops! :o

dealer · 15/05/2011 15:13

look up reefs convertible unisex sandals

OP posts:
QuackQuackBoing · 15/05/2011 17:51

Looked them up and they're erm . . . not that pretty! You wear them to weddings and other smart occassions? Seriously!

CurrySpice · 15/05/2011 17:58

Oh goodness! Erm..,I'm not sure what to say! My mother told me that if I don't have anything nice to say, say nothing! Shock

I will say though, that if I were at a wedding and someone (let alone the bride!!) wore those, I would be...surprised. To say the least!

QuackQuackBoing · 15/05/2011 18:02

I wasn't being horrible, just an observation, each to their own and all that. They just seem very casual, like you might wear to potter about the garden in or go for a walk.
