To be dismayed at the increasing number of pregnant women I see smoking

I used to notice the odd one or two but I've seen loads recently. Maybe it's not that there's more women smoking in pregnancy but just more not giving a shit what people think.

hairfullofsnakes... People who judge, without the law degree and admittance to the Bench, should be ashamed of themselves.

There are plenty of women who don't smoke, drink or carry extra poundage who perhaps shouldn't be within 100 miles of a child. It doesn't seem to stop them reproducing.

If a child is wanted, loved and looked after then that's what's important, surely? If you want to judge somebody, there are plenty of criminals out there.

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:17

k999-I am far from perfect and dont ever claim to be.However I take responsibility for my behaviour and dont blame others or make excuses
like "stress". And dress it up how you like but it is unbelievably selfish to smoke during pregnancy. You had a choice to start smoking but yet you are denying your unborn child that choice. Yes I have a giant wedgy because my judgy pants are so far up my arse-couldnt give a fuck.

K999 · 13/05/2011 21:18

You're right. It is selfish. So shoot me.

hairfullofsnakes · 13/05/2011 21:19

Oh here we go... Just because I don't agree with poisoning unborn children I am presenting myself as perfect...

How boringly predictable to have this kind of comment!

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:20

Grow up. Hold your hands up to your shitty behaviour and admit smoking in pregnancy is nasty.

K999 · 13/05/2011 21:21

No, you are presenting yourself as boringly, predictably, judgemental.

K999 · 13/05/2011 21:23

I will hold my hands up......smoking whilst pregnant MAY be harmful to an unborn child....happy??

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:23

Yep I am guilty as charged-"boringly,predictably,judgemental". I think I have earned the right to judge-walking past the twats smoking their stupid heads off as I left hospital with no baby(mines were in the morturary you see) so guilty as charged. So shoot me.....

usualsuspect · 13/05/2011 21:25

Its not Ideal no .. but I cba to get all po faced about someone elses choice

You know what I couldn't give a shit what someone else does

save your fucking lectures for someone that cares

handsomeharry · 13/05/2011 21:26

I judge. I am not 'ashamed'. Grin

It's better than the guilt I would experience if I knowingly exposed my baby to harm every day, over and over again.

Yes, as parents we make mistakes - usually when children are involved you try to minimise them or learn from them.

Continuing to smoke whilst pregnant isn't a stupid mistake, it is a daily admission that your own needs and comfort are more important than your baby's health.

OP YANBU at all.

BimboNo5 · 13/05/2011 21:28

As usual it has to turn personal when folk disagree....

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:28

usualsuspect-actually I think your rather vehement denial of not caring proves the complete oposite.I think you feel guilty as hell-I cling on to the hope that all women who smoke during pregnancy do as otherwise whats the fucking point?.
Stop trying to justify the unjustifiable.

usualsuspect · 13/05/2011 21:31

Did I say I smoked when I was pregnant?

No. I said I don't judge or care if other people do

BimboNo5 · 13/05/2011 21:32

I didnt smoke when pg and still couldn't give a shit. These discussions to me are like formula feeding/termination/baby ear piercing- the answer is simple- if you dont agree with it DONT DO IT!

K999 · 13/05/2011 21:33

I don't feel guilty.

hairfullofsnakes · 13/05/2011 21:34

Hear hear pink and handsome

And I not at all ashamed to judge people who smoke when pg.

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:35

No no we mustnt ever judge anyone ever thats a cardianal sinHmm. Oh sorry thats just in mn land-I forgot for a moment I live in the real world....

handsomeharry · 13/05/2011 21:36

Keep telling yourself that K999 - you may end up believing it.

LyingWitchInTheWardrobe2726 · 13/05/2011 21:36

Well, I didn't smoke during and stopped some years ago. Should I slate the women who smoke during pregnancy because under the 'MN judgement law', I can? Hmm

So what about women who didn't smoke during pregnancy but smoke now, perhaps outside? Should they be presented with statistics and judgements too? Drinkers? Should a league table be produced so we know where everybody's place is on it?

Why do you revel, pink4ever in wanting to make women feel guilty for something that you can guarantee, they will have anguished over? What's the point?

usualsuspect · 13/05/2011 21:37

Err no,pink4ever..you definitely belong in MN land

K999 · 13/05/2011 21:37

There's no " end up" about it. I do believe that....

pink4ever · 13/05/2011 21:41

"anguished over"-dont fucking make me laugh.Anguish is watching your prem baby fight for his life and die.Anguish is giving birth to a stillborn-twice.Anguish is being a lowbirth weight baby because my own mother was too selfish to stop fucking smoking which in turn led me(never smoked) to have a low birth weight dc who has various problems due to this.
Women who smoke during pregnancy arent in "anguish"-if they were then they would give up.

handsomeharry · 13/05/2011 21:41

Lying - there is a poster on here who claims not to feel guilty. She appears very far from being in an anguished state.

Since when did stating the bleeding obvious become 'revelling'? Confused

These women are not oppressed FFS - they are smokers!!!

BimboNo5 · 13/05/2011 21:43

I feel very sorry for your losses Pink but dont see how that is even relevent to bring to the discussion- unless you are trying to evoke yet more guilt among mums who dared to smoke when pregnant?

handsomeharry · 13/05/2011 21:44

Smoking whilst pregnant is not something you 'dare' to do. It's a choice.
