I do find it refreshing, I don't mean when they are a complete arsehole, just when they don't tread on eggshells, aibu?

Yes Lenin, I think we all know that Grin

BitOfFun · 06/05/2011 21:44

If I was any good at computers, I would love to open a business called The PC Brigade.

pigletmania · 06/05/2011 21:44

tattycoram that is the sort of political correctness I hate.

I have never yet met somebody who refused to "tread on eggshells" and who "says what he thinks - even if it's not politically correct" who does not then say something that is either racist, sexist or homophobic.

piglet. But that's a straw dog argument. Those are made up PC terms.

I do take the point about making assumptions about what people are likely to be offended by.

BitOfFun · 06/05/2011 21:46

Good job that it never actually happened then, pigletmania.

JamieAgain · 06/05/2011 21:47

BOF - that's a new MN name right there. Or an alternative to the Religious, Militaristic Boys' Brigade

SpringchickenGoldBrass · 06/05/2011 21:47

It depends where you are on the sliding scale between racist, sexist, homophobic arsehole and officious, bullying whinyarse, really.

grovel · 06/05/2011 21:48

You are so right. Love it when people say what they think.

pollypopsocks · 06/05/2011 21:48

Ok, examples. My driving instructor who was gay and very camp and always talking about gay rights but used to be very racist calling people rag heads and chinks, I don't think he realised I was half chinese, he was an idiot and I don't think his comments were ok. One of my friend who is black and has a young son didn't want to move into a flat becuase two gay men lived upstarirs and she was worried they might abuse her son, also not okay...

Lenin- let's do it Grin

sneezecakesmum · 06/05/2011 21:49

I suppose someone asking our local vicar what his 'first' name was because it is politically incorrect to ask for his 'christian' name qualifies.

I dont think anyone minds using the term 'first' for someone obviously not christian, but i've been sad to see it go.
I also managed to shut up quick in the hydro pool when drying DGSs toes and saying, 'this little piggy went to market etc' as there was an asian family in the cubicle next to us. Feel a bit resentful that this oldy worldy tradition is now a no no, but I certainly wouldnt like to offend anyone.

seeker · 06/05/2011 21:50

I would rather people trod on eggshells than trampled on feelings.

JamieAgain · 06/05/2011 21:51

Hang on - examples of things that are OK are what's required, OP

Your examples just prove that just because someone's a member of one minority doesn't mean they can't also be a bigot

SoFluffyImGonnaDie · 06/05/2011 21:52

I didn't realise "this little piggy" was racist? Am I missing a glaringly obvious point here?

pigletmania · 06/05/2011 21:52

jamie it was tongue in cheek to illustrate what I am trying to get across. Winterval Hmm, being afraid to overtly demonstrate that one is a Christian, in case it offends anyone.

BitOfFun · 06/05/2011 21:52

I don't think that anybody would be offended by 'this little piggy'. As far as I know, people who don't eat pork still realise that pigs exist.

seeker · 06/05/2011 21:52

sneezecakemum - why do you think the Asian family might have been offended byt the reference to roast beef? Or was it the market that was the problem? Or were they possibly homeless/ I suppose it might have been tactless to talk about running home in front of them if they were..........

JamieAgain · 06/05/2011 21:53

sneeze - who told you Asians (presuming they were Muslim) would be offended by that rhyme?

seeker · 06/05/2011 21:54

Oh, shit - not the winterval one again. Will somebody please explain - I've lost the will to live.

sneezecakesmum · 06/05/2011 21:54

SOFLUFFY> Pigs and bacon are dirty and nasty animals if you are muslim I believe. Dont you remember the pig that was removed from the early learning centre farm?

Its Christmas fgs why cant be call it that instead of some local government telling us to call it Winterval and some councils not allowing Christmas lights. The nursery rhymes are alright as they are, leave them alone!
