To be shocked at how many mners seem to condone smacking

I am not talking about people who have smacked in anger and post saying "oh no, I lost it and smacked my DC" - everyone makes mistakes and no-one is perfect! I am talking about those who use smacking as a considered, pre meditated form of punishment/discipline. I know this was discussed a lot on another thread a few days ago, and I was pretty much told "each to their own" - but I am genuinely surprised that it seems to be a popular method here?

MilaMae

I was informing not gloating. Calling someone a twat is a personal attack and is not acceptable by forum rules. MN rules, not mine.

AllDirections · 03/05/2011 23:24

Thanks MilaMae, I absolutely won't be getting one!!

MilaMae · 03/05/2011 23:25

Is that so Mamazon Hmm

osamabinladensmrs · 03/05/2011 23:25

Mamaz0n

Despite my innitial hostility, I fear you are right.

sickoftheholidays · 03/05/2011 23:26

I'll report you if you like K999 , our views differ, but hey, variety is the spice of life.
Gemsy's posts did get very out of hand I agree.
Dont agree theres a correllation between foul language and smacking though, I dont swear (very much) and not generally at other people.

AllDirections...my DS2 actually climbs out of his seat and climbs into the front passenger seat next to me. Think he's frightened of missing something. I actually got something from Mothercare that sort of clips onto the shoulder straps and prevents DC from taking his arms out. It only cost about £8.00 and really works, can't remember what it's actually called though, but they should still have them in store.

OldLadyKnowsNothing · 03/05/2011 23:27

Alldirections, how about this?

Mamaz0n · 03/05/2011 23:27

It isn't the same one we had but i can't remember what that one was called, but we were advised to get them for DS (asd) when he was younger as he was also an escape artist.

We were advised to get them by Ocupational therapy.

They do make it a nano secoind longer to get the child out in the aftermath of a crash. But less risky than an un strapped child.

and no need to smack Wink

osamabinladensmrs · 03/05/2011 23:27

to everyone

its a shame some out there have to resort to personal insults. I mean, I do not agree with one word sicko says. However, I respect her right to have her own opinion and I also note she has managed this without being nasty. How can I argue against that?

Gorgeous -
Glitter and Osama rounded on Gemsy several hours ago and have kept up a systematic attack on her, accusing her of abusing her children, and now they have resorted to patting themselves on the back and revelling in her misery.

You have to ask yourself, Who are the nasty abusers on this thread?

What a twisted view you have of things Gorgeous. Rather than attacking her, we have countered Gemsy's weak arguments in favour of hitting their kids with more valid ones.

SHE THEN ACCUSED ME, REPEATEDLY, OF HAVING SEX WITH MY DAD.Several times.

Would you like to think about that a little before defending her?

So, yeah, on balance, I'm kind of glad her posts got deleted!

Thanks osama!

Mamazon, you can call me a twunt.

sickoftheholidays · 03/05/2011 23:34

Glitterball - you have accused me of being creepy, sick, and abusive towards my children, all of this based on a couple of posts. Yes, gemsy was bang out of order, but the words "pot" and "kettle" do spring to mind.
On a balance of average, I would rather be accused of incest than of child abuse.

I can't understand why those posters who are against smacking could not just accept that those who do use smacking as a form of parenting have just as much right to air their beliefs.

It's like the pro abortion, anti abortion argument...just accept that people have differnt opinions. You can't tell someone they are totally wrong and a bad parent because their views are different to yours.
