To be shocked at how many mners seem to condone smacking

I am not talking about people who have smacked in anger and post saying "oh no, I lost it and smacked my DC" - everyone makes mistakes and no-one is perfect! I am talking about those who use smacking as a considered, pre meditated form of punishment/discipline. I know this was discussed a lot on another thread a few days ago, and I was pretty much told "each to their own" - but I am genuinely surprised that it seems to be a popular method here?

Gemsy - that govt paper is hardly all for smacking! yes, according to the paper, the majority of parents in england do not want smacking to be illegal, probably because they know that even loving, good parents can fuck up sometimes and lose their tempers and don't want it to then be an offence. Doesn't mean they think it is ok though, or even that they do it themselves.

Personally, I think it should be banned though. Surprised?!

I have always been very anti-smacking but there have been a few occasions when I have smacked, and I found it made no difference to the behaviour, obviously it was a shock, but the behaviour then happened again on another day and then required a better approach in order to understand why it was unacceptable as opposed to a 'stop now' approach. It was no more effective than a removal from the situation and then an explanation why it was wrong.

Can we please stop with the father fucking, it is creating disturbing images in my head and with the pea size brain of a smacker I'm not sure I can cope.

Rachie, at home I would ignore the behaviour unless someone is likely to get hurt. If I wasn't driving then I would sit in the back of the car and physically restrain her and put my hand over the seat belt buckle so she couldn't undo it.
