  • standing up
  • sitting up straight
  • lieing on left side with head raised
  • lying down with legs /\\
  • hot bath

Rub your belly and lower back, might get it moving!

My mum swears by a port and brandy (mixed together).

It tastes vile but seems to really ease stomach problems (while making you happily pissed).

Worth a try?

bananasinpjamas · 03/05/2011 02:26

Would love to, but cant use alcohol due to meds. ARRRRGH. :( :(

Lie on your back and pedal your legs like a bicycle whilst (ahem) bearing down .

nothingnatural · 03/05/2011 03:37

Yoga moves.

There is constant farting in my yoga class.

AmyStake · 03/05/2011 03:38

I normally get on my hands and knees, and try and put my bum in the air as high as I can, and pull my stomach in. That works for me and I look v dignified to boot.

I had trapped wind so bad once I had to come home from a good night out. I was in fucking agony.

AmyStake · 03/05/2011 03:39

Oops shoulders down as low as you can and bum as high as you can.

ManicPanic · 03/05/2011 03:44

have you tried Deflatine? Available from all good chemists...

Once or twice a year dh gets an attack of the agonising farts and Deflatine is the only thing that will do the trick.

TheWestCoastLotus · 03/05/2011 05:14

Ok, this is the best cure I know. Works for me, every time.

Squat down, knees wide apart so your belly fits between your knees. Heels to the ground if you can manage. Otherwise just squat as best you can, for at least a minute. Clasp your hands in front of your chest and use your elbows to push your knees apart.

Drink a cup of warm water with some honey in, ginger and cinnamon are good too, if you have them. Or mint tea, brewed very strond.

Squat for another minute or two.

Drink another cup of warm water with honey (and ginger and cinnamon if you have them), or mint tea.

Give it a rest for a bit, lie down on the sofa.

Repeat if necessary.

Good luck!!

Did anything work in the end? Hope you feel better now!

AlistairSim · 03/05/2011 07:54

This thread has made me fart.

BerryLellow · 03/05/2011 07:58

Strong coffee tends to get things moving

BerryLellow · 03/05/2011 07:59

Gawd, just saw the time of the OP, I hope you've farted by now?!

BalloonSlayer · 03/05/2011 08:02

I can't believe some people have actual strategies, that they can describe in detail with full physical instructions, to make them fart. Shock Grin

BecauseImWorthIt · 03/05/2011 08:02

Getting yourself over-anxious about this won't be helping! Hopefully all has been resolved now, but if not, you need to relax as much as you can.

Try lying in bed and doing some relaxation exercises - start with tensing the muscles in your feet and then relaxing, and move up through your body, visualising the building/releasing tension. Make sure that your jaw isn't clenched - release your bottom jaw and make sure that your tongue isn't pressed against the top of your mouth.

And try putting a hot water bottle on your tummy.

And think loud, strong (but relaxing) farty thoughts!!!

BalloonSlayer · 03/05/2011 08:03

Did you try asking anyone to pull your finger?

5GoMadOnAZ650 · 03/05/2011 08:06

I always fart mid shag Blush how about a bit of love action?

That's a suggestion not an offer by the way Grin Wink

AfternoonsandCoffeespoons · 03/05/2011 08:09

I drink a big glass of lemonade or something else fizzy, it seems to bring the trapped wind with it when i burp, assuming it is top end trapped wind.

Bottom end, I just wait and suffer as IBS is a family trait we have all learned to live with.
