I wonder what she weighs? About 7 and a half stone is my guess but I have no idea how tall she is.

RunAwayWife · 30/04/2011 16:53

She weighs less then me that's for sure Sad

Chelsy was one of the worst offenders style wise - she looked like the middle-aged barmaid of a particularly bad pub. Can't believe the outfit was Alberta Ferretti.

TheSmallClanger · 30/04/2011 17:05

I didn't really like Kate's dress - big skirts and fussy lace are not my style, and the pointy boobs looked a bit odd. I'd give it 5 out of 10, although she obviously loved it, and that's what counts.
However, I loved the super-simple flat veil, the tiara and her hairstyle.

Pippa's dress was much more my thing, and with a few tweaks, would have worked well as the wedding dress - the cowl neck is very flattering for the light of boob, and the button back was lovely. 10 out of 10.

The little bridesmaids' dresses were too twee and Diana-esque.

Camilla, Sophie, Zara, the Queen, Carole and Miriam Gonzalez all looked great in their own ways.

Vivienne Westwood should be ashamed of that thing that Eugenie was wearing.

SybilBeddows · 30/04/2011 17:08

oh well Chelsy has a proper job - she had probably been working 14 hour days at Allen and Overy all week and had better things to do than spend ages trying on clothes.

Al0uiseG · 30/04/2011 17:10

Chelsy looked awful I thought, not just the outfit but she looked unkempt and unbothered as if she'd been on a 24 hour bender!

Carol Middletons outfit was an absolute winner I thought. Also Joss stone looked lovely in her Hobbs frock and jacket.

Myriam Clegg was a bit too fancy dress and Sam Cam far too understated and a bit unkempt.

overthesea · 30/04/2011 17:20

I wish they had dumped all that lace, it was very aging (i.e my mother thought it fabulous).

It is exquisite work but for me the dress just looked really old fashioned. Yes it looked great on Grace Kelly but a) she was stunning and b) it was the 1950s.

I also think Kate was just too thin/flat chested to carry the design off properly. Because she is so skinny she would far better suit a dress like Pippa's (admittedly with a few tweaks of course so as not to be so clingy). I would have thought a thirties style dress sheath dress with long veil and a striking tiara would have looked very cool and understated.

GitAwfMayLend · 30/04/2011 17:25

Alouise - lol at Anna Wintour. You will soon discover that I don't really know fark all about it when I turn up to the meet up in my Bon Marche fashions Grin

I think Pippa looked lovely, but just didn't fit in with the wedding. As someone said yesterday, she looked as if she was getting married herself, albeit at Sandals Antigua Grin

Chelsy looked awful. I don't care if it was Alberta Ferreti, the top and skirt clashed and it didn't fit her. She looked like she needed a good facial scrub as well.

I still think Miriam Gonzales looked marvellous. The winners for me were Carole Mid, Zara, Theresa May, Camilla (but her dress needed to be an inch longer) and Princess Letizia. Most of the young people got it wrong, and TOO MANY people were wearing that hideous bile beige colour which suits nobody.

GitAwfMayLend · 30/04/2011 17:29

I think the crucial point was that the world and his wife have been wearing slinky/30s/bias cut/ plain dresses for about 20 years now.

The fact that the dress was almost 60s in its rigidity and cut means that it is pretty unique. Most people haven't seen a wedding dress like that since their parents or grandparents wedding pics from the 50s and 60s.

And I am going to bang on boringly about that veil until people LISTEN. Nobody has worn a veil like that for years, probably go back to the 20s/30s. Veils have been worn for generations with a bit of oomph to the crown, whether worn with flowers or tiaras. Worn flat to the head like that gives it a beautiful, almost medieval look (with shades of Queen mother's medieval style wedding attire in the 20s).

GitAwfMayLend · 30/04/2011 17:32

First person to start a trend for wedding dresses a la what Pippa wore yesterday was Carolyn Bessette here and that was over 15 years ago.

That style has been done to death now, time for a change.

overthesea · 30/04/2011 17:38

The veil was worn flat because the tiara was so small.

Must say I have been to quite a few weddings that have featured dresses very like that - I went to several of them mainly in the 1990s. In fact DH was best man to a wedding where the bride wore a v v similar dress in 2000 (copyright issues)! Got the picutre on the sideboard. That's why my heart sunk a bit as soon as I saw her in the car.

Sarah Burton has done some really cutting edge work but elegant work and what a shame she just did a rerun 'kellyesque' dress. I'm not sure it will stand the test of time. Princess Margaret and Sarah Armstong Jones had what I'd call stunning dresses but this was nice but uninspired.

FellatioNels0n · 30/04/2011 17:41

I agree Gitawf - I SOOOOOO agree.

diddl · 30/04/2011 17:43

So, those who think Pippas dress was so awful-what should she have been in?

TheSmallClanger · 30/04/2011 17:45

GetOrf I completely agree with you about the veil. I hope it catches on.

I do agree about Pippa's dress and Carolyn Bessette Kennedy as well, but I really do like that style of dress. Carolyn was my favourite high-profile bride.

FellatioNels0n · 30/04/2011 17:46

The only thing I disagree with Gitawf about is Pippa. I thought she looked utterly perfect.

Al0uiseG · 30/04/2011 17:47

I luuurved Pippas dress! Mainly because it can only be worn by someone with a flawless figure, it suited her perfectly.

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 17:48

I'm loving the fashion critiques....very amusing! Smile

Gitawf - you can bang on as much as you like about the veil...but I didn't like the flat on the head look AT all..and I don't think it suited her.

Agree there were too many neutral shades...beige and very VERY pale pink...which can look a little dull (even tho I still maintain that the Spencer girls looked very well presented).

firstsupermum · 30/04/2011 17:48

kate's dress was 10/10, very elegant and simple.
david cameron's wife outfit was 1/10, realy rubbish

overthesea · 30/04/2011 17:50

........and did anyone else spend half the wedding wondering what underwear if any Pippa was wearing to make her figure look that good?

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 17:51

Sam Cameron's Burberry dress has sold out...alleg.

Quite liked it...and she has the figure to wear it BUT from what I could see she was the only one NOT wearing a hat. Was there a dress code that she couldn't be bothered to observe?

diddl · 30/04/2011 17:55

"First person to start a trend for wedding dresses a la what Pippa wore yesterday was Carolyn Bessette "

Yes, but how often as a MoH dress?

GitAwfMayLend · 30/04/2011 17:56

Oh I think Pippa looked amazing, and the dress was perfect for her figure.

Just not perfect for a maid of honour at a royal wedding.

I don't think that you need to wear hat in church do you. I think SamCam looked very good. very confident of her not to wear a hat. She is an aristocrat anyway, think she was making a statement that she was posher than 99% of the congregation Grin

She is rather long faced, perhaps hats don't suit her.

thomasbodley · 30/04/2011 17:57

Sybil Chelsy doesn't start work at A&O until September. I know because the husband of a colleague is heading up her first pre-qual seat. (Think he's more nervous TBH).

Think the 24-hour bender is a more sensible explanation Wink.

FellatioNels0n · 30/04/2011 17:58

Agree again Gitawf - about SamCam. Leave her alone. there is no law about hats.

oohlaalaa · 30/04/2011 18:01

GitOrf - completely agree about strapless dresses, they flatter so few brides. I would have loved a wedding dress with sleeves but it was nigh-impossible.

My favourite royal wedding dress is Sarah Armstrong-Jones.
