it was perfect. No long train, waisted naturally, white lace for modesty, a flower sequence. 10/10

googoomama · 30/04/2011 00:40

10 out of 10 but I am pissed after being to a wedding reception (not that one, another one). But yes, I love everyone. Hic.

sakura · 30/04/2011 07:11

I agree with the person that said once you look at the photos online and see all the details close up, the dress makes more sense.
When I first sawit on TV though, it was definitely no more than a 7/10.
She still looked amazingly beautiful.

Animation · 30/04/2011 07:32

Loved the dress. Thought the bra looked a bit lumpy - she doesn't have much bust - I assume it was some padded wonder bra type.

Nancy66 · 30/04/2011 11:13

Absolutely perfect dress - i honestly thought it would be boring but thought it was lovely, elegant and 'special' enough to be a royal wedding dress.
So glad she went with McQueen

sausagesandmarmelade · 30/04/2011 11:16

TEN...

Perfect dress...understated elegance, quality, sophisticated...with a LOT of workmanship.

The veil brought forward over her head looked too outdated I thought...would have been better further back.

FellatioNels0n · 30/04/2011 11:29

The trouble with a very fitted bodice is that if you are as slim as Kate you are also inevitably a bit titless, and it's hard to wear that type of dress without getting pointy 'coat hanger tits' We have become accustomed to seeing unnaturally full and rounded fake breasts on very slim women, so we are being overly critical. Having said that, Sarah Burton could have softened the cups with some very light padding.

Having a keen interest in high-end couture and fashion (not that you'd know it from looking at me or my wardrobe) I would have liked to have seen something slightly more edgy going on with the skirt, but I hate to criticise because the dress was a complete work of art and she really did look exquisite. The plainness of the veil and tiara against that lace was a master stroke.

I think the balance of traditional elegance, simplicity and modesty, with just enough embellishment and hinted-at sexiness to have real WOW factor was spot on.

If she had been bigger boobed that deep neckline would have raised eyebrows, but she carried it off without a hint of tackiness and managed to look demure yet sexy. Skinny girls don't have much cleavage but the upside is they can show lots of decolletage without looking like they are flaunting too much tit, which is what would happen to me if I wore that. Sad (not that I care - show and be damned I say - but I'm not going to be Queen one day.)

It's a tough call for a royal bride - so many restrictions could lead to safe frumpiness, or horrid tweeness, and that dress was never in danger of being either. It was glorious.

I cannot wait to get my newspaper today to see all the photos! Does anyone knwo the best website for good close ups?

Lilmeena · 30/04/2011 11:30

Now I've seen it close up 10/10 - the detail is amazing

ScousyFogarty · 30/04/2011 11:35

theres been a lot of work put in; but its still a frock and not a miracle

Bucharest · 30/04/2011 11:38

I think I've decided I didn't like the lace. Would have preferred top to be filled in.
Need to go and have proper look at photos though.

FellatioNels0n · 30/04/2011 11:56

I thought the lace was the best bit!

Lilmeena · 30/04/2011 12:01

FN - I'm trying to find some close up's to link you - ( I saw the lace close up on TV ) - I wasn't mad about it at first, but on closer inspection - Wow!

BitOfFunPipPip · 30/04/2011 12:18

Good shot of the veil here...

ScousyFogarty · 30/04/2011 12:27

Lace sounds more like underwear to me. Is it a taboo subject

Mrs Cameron did not have a hat on. (What else might she have left off?)
The Tower awaits.

When the wonder has vanished. The humour will have to kick in?

RosieMBanks · 30/04/2011 12:30

Vogue website has some lovely pictures of the dress (plus lots of wedding outfits) and you can zoom in to get close ups of the detail.

diddl · 30/04/2011 13:35

Yes, I think it needs to be seen up close to appreciate it.

I don´t really get the "opening flower" from the back.

Covet the tiara thoughBlush

Flossie69 · 30/04/2011 13:47

I think it is beautiful - classic, understated, but with a lot of detail that would probably be more appreciated by the guests, up close, rather than the TV viewers.

GenevieveHawkings · 30/04/2011 14:07

I liked it but she could have had a bigger more sparkly tiara to give the overall look a bit of a lift and also to lift that veil and not make it look so flat.

Her flowers were atrocious I thought. Flowers make a wedding and the distinct lack of a decent bouquet was a reall let-down.

vess · 30/04/2011 14:21

7/10.
Lovely dress, she looked beautiful, but no real wow factor. Maybe it was intentional?
Could have been 8/10 with better flowers.

jellybeans · 30/04/2011 14:31

10 out of 10

JemimaMop · 30/04/2011 15:53

I loved the flowers and liked the bottom half of the dress but didn't like the lace. My sister got married in a lacy dress in the early 80s and I really wasn't keen on it, Kate's dress reminded me of that.

GitAwfMayLend · 30/04/2011 16:03

I think the flatness of the veil was a masterstroke. I very much like the old fashioned air about it - I don't think anyone has worn a flat veil like that for years. She looked utterly wonderful and think it will start a definite bridal trend.

I think she and the designer had to be very careful not to draw any comparison with the monstrosity Diana wore.

I also like it because it is VERY different to any bridal style of this generation - the general trend has been towards bridal dresses which are similar to that which Pippa wore - very plain fabric, plain styling, emphasis on cut. And if dresses are voluminous they are of a distinct Vivienne Westwood style - very busty and of a particular cut to the skirt. Plus, I think it is great that protocal decreed that she could not wear strapless. I think strapless wedding dresses are a huge mistake frankly, very few people suit strapless styles, and even if you have a perfect figure like kate, you will have skin bunching in your armpit. who wants hundreds of photos of themselves on their wedding day when all you can see is that.

Al0uiseG · 30/04/2011 16:08

Fuck me! Ever thought about changing your name to Anna Wintour getorf?

Al0uiseG · 30/04/2011 16:09

Oh, and the bunched up underarm skin is known as "armgina" :o

thomasbodley · 30/04/2011 16:16

I thought KM's dress was a bit boring Sad. Other than the train and the close-up detail, I'm afraid it looked like a lot of wedding dresses I've seen before. She has a teeny tiny waist and the crinoline did show that off nicely though. 6.5/10.

The evening dress looked like it came from Coast and the angora cardie didn't help. 5/10.

Pippa Middleton's dress was a showstopper; it would make an incredible wedding dress anywhere except Westminster Abbey. As a maid-of-honour dress at a royal wedding, it was perfectly judged. The only false note was the mahogany tan and the lace trim, which I thought a bit fussy. Also adored the way she wore her hair - really unaffected but polished at the same time. 9/10.

Carole Middleton looked marvellous. I bet Camilla was spitting tacks when she discovered it was Princess Di's favourite Catherine Walker.

The womenfolk of the Royal family all looked a total state to varying degrees, which made me laugh. They looked like the vulgar relations and not the other way round Wink.
