I thought the dress was perfect - elegant and classically stylish. I loved the detail in the lace and the shape of the skirt, and the heavy silk/whateveritwas material. It was just right. Kate/Catherine (why are we all supposed to be calling her Catherine now?) looked beautiful.

Something about her dress put me in mind of Maria Von Trapp's dress in The Sound of Music

SoloIsApparentlyACougar · 29/04/2011 16:39

Nice cake :)

Vallhala · 29/04/2011 16:40

Just seen photos of Kate's dress online... bloody awful IMHO. Her sister's dress was far more streamlined and elegant.

madammecholet · 29/04/2011 16:42

10/10

TheOriginalFAB · 29/04/2011 16:43

Why was it awful Val? [chmm]

slalomsuki · 29/04/2011 16:49

I thought that there was just something missing from the dress or the bouquet. Perhaps the flowers needed to be bigger or more colourful or perhaps the lace was too distracting from the shape of the overall dress. Also the hair was too plain for my liking, she wears it like that every day so not really a special hair event for your wedding.

I would mark it 7/10

cocolepew · 29/04/2011 16:51

I've been on MN for too long, when I saw D Beckham this morning I thought, Oh cyb will be happy Blush

JingleMum · 29/04/2011 17:10

oh 10/10, she looked sensational, so classy and elegant. she looked like a proper princess.

my mum thought she looked beautiful but a little too old fashioned, i thought this is what made her look so stunning, the fact that she was understated and traditional.

she's a real beauty and i hope they'll be very happy together. i love prince william and prince harry.

breatheslowly · 29/04/2011 17:16

The photos where you can look at close up detail make the dress make more sense as you can really see the lace detail on the skirt. On TV the skirt looked really plain to me, but it is much nicer than I thought and does go with the top half.

Highlander · 29/04/2011 17:20

10/10.

Soups · 29/04/2011 17:25

10/10

tanmu82 · 29/04/2011 17:31

I thought she looked stunning - but I do agree with slalomsuki in that the flowers could have been bigger or more colourful......

AnnieLobeseder · 29/04/2011 17:35

Glad it wasn't just me who thought the dress was 'nipply'. As she walked into the Abbey I though she might poke someone's eyes out and found myself looking at her breasts through the whole wedding. Which is a real shame as otherwise it was a beautiful dress.

rockinhippy · 29/04/2011 17:36

The flowers were all very symbolic though, so even though simple & understated for the pomp of the abbey, I love them for that reason :)

mulranno · 29/04/2011 17:40

Glad that she smuggled a couple of peanuts into the Abbey to keep her going til lunch....sensible girl

DontGoCurly · 29/04/2011 17:47

The dress was gorgeous, really classy.

But why on Earth was Pippa wearing white? And Pippas dress while beautiful was too sexy. Bride was every so slightly upstaged...

The bridesmaid should have been in another colour!

bitsyandbetty · 29/04/2011 17:50

I thought she looked quite uncomfortable. Kept pulling it away from her and too thin. Agree about the boobs. My DH hated it because it was so boring.

mathanxiety · 29/04/2011 17:52

The neckline made the dress, imo. I thought it was lovely and I thought Pippa's dress, with the same basic neckline shape and same colour, was completely appropriate as the rest of it was plain, and the top not tight or too revealing.

The hair and shape of the dress said 'morning wedding', and Pippa's flattered her while still being plain and imo unobtrusive. I liked the Middleton family's style. Mrs M looked good, I thought. Very well thought out ensemble. PM's wife could learn a lesson there.

10/10 for 'appropriateness' and a sort of sweet style as exemplified by the simple veil and tiara. If she chose the tiara, she picked the right one. Agree with 'understated and traditional' -- I think she honoured the occasion.

Felt sorry for the York gals.
