to be pissed off at school revelations?

Have name changed for this as the route in which I found out this info makes me very identifiable.

I always have my friend's DD on Teacher training days as she has to work at the school the DC attend.

My 2DC are off school today and tomorrow as the school decided to manipulate TT days so that the school broke up on 8th April(1.30pm) and return 3rd May. It means the school will be open on Polling Day (with extra safeguarding in place Hmm) and we will not finish one day early in July as we normally do.

That's fine, but obviously 3 weeks and a day and a half makes life very difficult for WOHPs.

After speaking to my friend last night, it was revealed that the staff are not going into school on these 2 days as have worked/will work extra hours after school to make up the time.

Shock

Apparently, attendance at afterschool events will count towards this time, rather than actual training. Is this acceptable standrd practice?

AIBU to be pissed off about this?

also from the government website - you get paid your normal pay for your holiday. So as teachers contracts are currently for 1265h pa with no paid holiday, if in the interested of fairness and introducing the work time directive then if say they earn £30K that gives them an hourly wage of ~£23.50. Meaning that their new salaries would be considerably hirer.

NinkyNonker · 28/04/2011 14:59

Nope Katz, apparently teachers need to suck up an extra 500 hours unpaid.

mrz · 28/04/2011 15:00

As i said earlier I worked in the Private sector so know which was by far easier - flexi time - less stressful - able to switch off in holidays - more salary ...

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 15:01

I told you it gets amusing Grin

NinkyNonker · 28/04/2011 15:01
Grin
katz · 28/04/2011 15:04

ninky - beta is living in cloud cuckoo land on this, and i very much doubt someone in the private sector would suck up being told that they were going to have to do an additional 450-500h per year thats approx 9 extra hours a week for no extra pay.

MoreBeta · 28/04/2011 15:05

Private school teachers and their holidays?

Don't even get me sarted on that one!

MoreBeta · 28/04/2011 15:05

started

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 15:08

Oh, not, go on. Start (after you've answered Stayfrosty's points of course). Because you wanted things to be like the private sector.... didn't you?

This is getting confusing.

COCKadoodledooo · 28/04/2011 15:08

Are you in fact pathologically incapable of answering a direct question MoreBeta?

pickyourbrain · 28/04/2011 15:08

If they want to do training in the evenings fine, most of us do evening work when the need arises. And it's only what, 5 evenings a year... i've done that this month alone...

Funny thing is, I don't expect a day off the following day to the detriment of my clients (who pay my wages) convenience Hmm

NinkyNonker · 28/04/2011 15:10

Hahaha, pay your wages, corker.

The training day/holiday conversation has been done to death on a lot of these threads...shall I explain it again slowly?

TethersEnd · 28/04/2011 15:10

I'm loving 'clients' Grin

pickyourbrain · 28/04/2011 15:12

1265 hours a year, taking 13 weeks holiday off is only 32 hours a week, that can't be right? If so 30k salary is bloody good. That's about 8 hours a week less than most full time jobs..

katz · 28/04/2011 15:12

pickyourbrain - it is not to the detriment of the clients, regardless of when the training is done, on the INSET day or twilight, the children would not be in school that day. Children do 190 days/academic year and teachers do 195 days/academic year.

That's 1265 hours directed time (i.e.: teaching).

pickyourbrain · 28/04/2011 15:14

tethers

Wiki Definititon: Client may refer to:

* Chaperone protein

* A patient receiving health care from an independent caregiver is sometimes referred to as a "client"

Therefore Teacher: Parent = Person who offers a service: person who pays for service.

TeamLemon · 28/04/2011 15:15

My clients take the piss.
I have to supervise them having breakfast, tie their shoelaces, occasionally wipe their arse too.
I would sell my left leg for a 20min break every six hours and the chance to work 9 - 5 and take no work home with me.

Yes but the school is closed because the teachers are training, they need to train. If they are managing to fit this in during other times, why does the school need to be shut?

MoreBeta · 28/04/2011 15:16

... and another thing while I'm on a roll.

Word of advice to teaching unions. If you are going to have a conference with your speakers appearing on national TV do make sure that they all wear a suit and look reasonably smart.

.... one more thing.

How come so many teachers are on this thread? Aren't you all supposed to be teaching or preparing lessons?

I do five evenings every week pickyourbrain and three early mornings and don't get a day off to the detriment of my family at times although my clients seem happy.

pickyourbrain · 28/04/2011 15:17

I know no one who works 9-5 and has a 20 minute break every 6 hours... 8-6 and 10 minutes for a cuppa and a sandwich at your desk possibly.

The children arent the clients, the tax payers are.
