Daughter is 5 next month. The wife(who doesn't work but think's that money is something that the cash point fairy just conjours up) has booked the local church hall.

4 hours at £15 per hour. OK. Sorted with that.

And hired a bouncy castle. £60. Fine with that

And booked a children entertainer and magician. £200 for two hours. WTF! £100 PER HOUR!!

And paid caterers to do the food £120!!!! WTF £120 for the a childrens * party!

£440 for a four hour childrens party!!! WTF!!!!

Is this excessive? She thinks that's what it should cost!

lol....can someone show me where op has been offensive or 'sexist'?????

what has he said that is so wrong?

howdoyoueatyours · 15/04/2011 21:22

Seriously people think it's OK to say 'The Wife'??? And to belittle a SAHM's contribution to the household.
And no it's not OK to call your DH a cunt either.

bubblecoral · 15/04/2011 21:23

I think all the costs are fairly reasonable if that's what you want to do, but what she wants to spend on catering is ridiculous. And lazy, childrens party food has got to be the easiest possible thing to do yourself.

And you haven't mentioned the cost of party bags yet.

Why would anyone have a childrens party that lests four hours?

Beamur · 15/04/2011 21:23

4 hours is too long, whilst the party sounds smashing, it also sounds a bit OTT. I'd say 2 hours max, the bouncy castle sounds great and maybe an entertainer for a bit - not sure how much interest they will get though if theres a bouncy castle!

howdoyoueatyours · 15/04/2011 21:24

We don't know Changing - maybe the OP can come back and tell us. NO excuse for 'The Wife' though - although it is quite funny (because it's not my DH saying it).

nulliusxinxverbax · 15/04/2011 21:24

Oh dear, I think the other half has been struck by CMS.

competitive mother syndrome

I would agree with others, 4 hours, half the parents will probably take their DC's home before then.

Hiring a hall - good idea saves house (and more money coming from the "cashpoint fairy" to pay for damages)

Hiring bouncy castle, good and resonable price

Hiring a caterer???!! Definitley pandering to playground politics there. No need, too expensive, kids wont care, a bit lazy. Same for entertainer, kids might hate him.

gemmummy · 15/04/2011 21:24

bloody hell some people sheesh!!! The OP was having a bit of a larf, nothing offensive in his post. And OP, 4 hrs is madness, don't do it.

FlamingJamie · 15/04/2011 21:25

Take my wife ... I wish somebody would har de har

dementedma · 15/04/2011 21:25

we are always strapped for cash and have never been able to "compete" inthe party stakes, can't even stretch to 10 pin bowling etc. This year DS was 9 and invited 5 boys round. They ran mad in the park just across the road, then sat at the table for cheapo party food and jokes, then played with his toys for a bit. One of them said it was the best party he'd ever been to, and they all asked coul dthey come again next year!
Cost was probably about £30 Grin

manicmummyoftwo · 15/04/2011 21:25

Too long. Too expensive - even if you can afford it; just completely unneccesary.

Changing2011 · 15/04/2011 21:25

"the wife" is better than "extravagant avaricious uber competitive party mum" Grin

CUKAmbassador · 15/04/2011 21:25

HowDoYouEatYours

"Anyway if your that bothered get thee to a supermarket and buy some party food, wrap up some pass the parcels and get a bag of Haribo for party game prizes. And 4 hrs is way too long for a kids party - no-one will stay that long."

Haribo? I'm not some kind of gypsy.

I just thought it was excessive to have a magician and a bouncy castle. The caterers are pretty good, it's all healthy stuff. I just think £440 quid for 20 children is excessive. Like £22 per head. Seems ridiculous.

Changing2011 · 15/04/2011 21:26

how do you eat yours - I have been called far, far worse. GAFG.

Merryleggs · 15/04/2011 21:26

Enjoying your holiday, OP?

CUKAmbassador · 15/04/2011 21:26

Yes and I agree fours hours is to long. We have the hall for four hours, the party will be two which I think is OK.

worraliberty · 15/04/2011 21:26

How has her contribution to the household been belittled?

Just because you're a SAHM doesn't mean you can't be greedy or bad with money Hmm

howdoyoueatyours · 15/04/2011 21:26

Racist aswell??? Unbelievable! Can I cry troll yet?

FlamingJamie · 15/04/2011 21:27

It's more like the cost of a wedding ......

IMO Bouncy castles are a recipe for sweaty anti-social behaviour. This is why I don't do parties

Changing2011 · 15/04/2011 21:27

Worra, dont you know SAHM = saint Hmm and above all criticism...

FabbyChic · 15/04/2011 21:28

Four hours is too long, maximum would be 2 hours.

She has gone way over the top. You cater yourselves unless you are a fat lazy bastard, or money grows on trees.

CURLYMAMMA · 15/04/2011 21:28

FlamingJamie · 15/04/2011 21:28

Thankyou Merrylegs, First class piece of espionage OP. Wew done

worraliberty · 15/04/2011 21:30

Well I'm a SAHM Changing and I am of course a saint....Blush

But my friend is also a SAHM and you'd think she believes in the cash point fairy too considering how much bloody money she spends on designer bags and shoes, while her poor DH has to work every hour god sends to pay off the credit card Sad

mamatomany · 15/04/2011 21:30

hmmm I'd say she's being robbed by the magician and can I have the number of the caterers that'll do food for £120 please ?

angrymomma · 15/04/2011 21:30

OP, I seem to be the only one who found your comment about the cash machine fairy hilarious.

Think you need to sit her down and explain that
a) there is a recession on and food and petrol cost more than a mortgage nowadays
b) your DC is too young to even remember in 10 years time 'that party with the entertainer, bouncy castle, etc'
c) if she really wants to waste shedloads of money like this, then maybe she should think about going to work herself
d) keeping up with the school gates gang is not a necessity.....good luck with that one!
