Co-op own brands are crap too.

Don't let my dad hear you disrespecting Aldi. He will be round to your house with his axe (which, incidentally, he bought from Aldi)

YouaretooniceNOT · 14/04/2011 15:01

HAHAHA

Sorry Dad xxx

Aldi do quite nice cheap confectionary, like the chewy fruit sweets.

TheVisitor · 14/04/2011 15:02

Aldi rocks. So there. :P Tesco is smelly and expensive and rubbish and tax avoiding, oh, and did I mention that they're rubbish? Grin

YouaretooniceNOT · 14/04/2011 15:08

Tesco is smelly - smells of what? lol

I just got in from Aldi...

Badgers creek plonk is great value as are their fresh fruit and veg.

Cold meats and cheese are just as good as anywhere else imo.
They don't have the range that bigger supermarkets have but what they do have is ok.

Tesco is over priced and no better quality.

I also shop at Asda when necessary.

Chavsda...what a snobby load of rubbish.

TheVisitor · 14/04/2011 15:10

Just Tesco smell. Grin Can you tell I don't like them? Unfortunately, sometimes I have no choice as we only have Aldi and Tesco in our town. Our Tesco is also one of the most expensive in the country, due to the lack of competition. Robbing barstewards.

ivykaty44 · 14/04/2011 15:11

I don't know what the bad smell is in our local tesco - it does smell bad though and you need to put your hand over your nose, its a bit like damp state mops the staff seem to be used to the smell but many customers do smell it near the doors. Not really ideal in a food service area..

BettyButterknife · 14/04/2011 15:12

YABU.

The only thing I've ever bought from Aldi that really is horrid was a multi-pack of their version of 'Sunbites' - you have been warned.

I think their fruit and veg are ok, their cheese is really good, chips, frozen fish, fishfingers, tomatoes, passata, cereal, beans, ketchup, drinks, wine is all good. I don't eat meat so can't comment on that. Their potted herbs are great - they really last and grow, not like any I've bought from other supermarkets.

They had some lovely chocolate ladybirds in the Easter section a few weeks back that sold out in a couple of days. They've done some really nice zinc window boxes and pots recently.

Ooh, I really love Aldi.

BettyButterknife · 14/04/2011 15:13

Oh, and my latest Aldi find is their NZ Sauvignon Blanc - Freeman's Bay. £5.49 so is their most pricey white, but it's lovely. Very like Oyster Bay but half price or so.

OliPolly · 14/04/2011 15:17

Our Tescos stinks - yuck.

I go to Lidl to get their orange & carrot juice - yum

I also bought DS1 and 2 snooker cues from Aldi a couple of Christmases ago..DS1 still uses his and he's 20.

I have bought thermal underwear for DC school ski trips.
Ski goggles and gloves.

A ball throwing stick thing for the dog..Confused

Christmas wrapping paper.

And lots more.

YouaretooniceNOT · 14/04/2011 15:21

Hoof oil - you didn't forget that, did you?

I haven't been for years so my opinions are outdated...was being a stirrer as AIBU was dead last night.

I ABVU!

Why stir? It's pointless.
I'll shop wherever, I have no strong feelings either way about 'cheap' or 'nice' supermarkets. I thought that attitude had been left behind at school. As long as I'm saving money I don't care.

Rollmops · 14/04/2011 15:46

No idea as of Aldi etc, BUT, Tesco food is rather disgusting.
Ahem. Each their own and all that.....Hmm

moomoo1967 · 03/06/2011 09:19

I truly heart Lidl. Apart from it being one of the only supermarkets within walking distance, I find their food fabulous. Their fruit and veg is good quality, why pay £1.50 for spinach in Tescos when at Lidl it is 99p.
Their rump steaks when they were two for £3.49 were an absolute bargain. So tender and no fat unlike the ones I bought at M&S for a Valentines meal which were so gristly.
Their baked goods are cheap and good quality such as croissants or pastries. They also have a different country theme each week, last week I think was French, the week before Asian.

Spudulika · 03/06/2011 09:25

Cold meats are better and cheaper than telco. Veg are cheaper and as good. Icecreams and lollies are excellent. Greek yogurt outstanding and cheap. Milk cheaper than tesco. Unsalted butter fine. Bagged lambs lettuce - fantastic. Smoked salmon fine. Wipes fantastic. Biscuits - great. Teabags good. Cheepo weetabix things v.good.

Not so good: cooked prawns, chilled pizza (waaaay too salty)

Spudulika · 03/06/2011 09:25

Lidl products btw

Lidl is brilliant! only complaint I have with them is lack of variety. I dunno, Monday seems to be brussel sprout day, Tuesday is cabbage day and so on .....as I understand it, lidl is the European equivalent of Tesco?

Aldi - can't ever find anything in it I would want to buy. Clearly everyone else locally felt the same way as it closed down and became Mothercare! I don't care if Aldi lobsters are 4.99 - it's not on my shopping list, 4.99 or 44.99!!!

Tesco, locally has been rebuilt. It services the local dumping ground for teenage mothers. All it sells is plasma TVs, nappies, crisps and booze. It has a sorry little starbucks franchise at the front which is always empty. However dead opposite is Morrisons which is thriving!

Other than there is little variety - Iceland is brill for fruit, veg and fresh meat.

Dropdeadfred · 03/06/2011 09:31

Not all free range chickens are that expensive in Waitrose here

Coffeeisking · 03/06/2011 09:38

I love lidls,

I always used to shop at asda (hate tesco) but weve been shopping at lidls for a couple of years and will never go back to asda. the food is great.

i will also go to sainsburys if i need to pick up some bits that i cant get in lidls.

AmazingBouncingFerret · 03/06/2011 10:12

Now I have a question... Is it Lidls or just lidl? Do you say Aldi's rather than Aldi? I've heard people say Asda's or even the dreaded 'The Asda' and it really gets on my goat.

piratecat · 03/06/2011 10:21

havent got either near me, wish we did.

i love Morrisons, they have brilliant offers, and all their quiches, pasta's and fresh goods are great quality and taste much better than Tesco. Can't believe how expensive Tesco is sometimes.

Some asda stuff doesn't taste as good.
