To wonder why Men aren't waxing their nether regions?

I read this article in the Guardian about the whole pornification pressure and the link to women getting rid of all their pubic hair.
As I don't watch porn, it was news to me that men in porn are often completely waxed down there Shock. The author makes a bloody good point. Why are women so influenced by the porn look but men - understandably -shy away from waxing their bits?

Why have we gone from the Joy of Sex 70s pubes on both genders to, by way of a quick trim then a landing strip, naked female bits but not male bits? Surely all the arguments that apply to removing female pubes apply to mens' pubes as well? So why aren't their magazines full of adds for hair removal creams and wax strips? Why aren't they convincing themselves that it's 'fresher' or more hygenic? How have we, in less than 40 years, convinced ourselves that it's good grooming when they have done bugger all. And yes, I know that there are back, sack and crack waxes for men, but they're still a long way from being considered the norm.

Lots of men remove all their pubic hair, they are always going on about it on the lovehoney forums. Hmm I bet a lot of men who are heavy users of porn do it.
There is nothing less sexual than a completely hairless man or woman imho - it removes sexuality rather than enhancing it.

GetOrfMoiLand · 11/04/2011 15:32

lol at lovehoney forums - what the hell are they

EvenLessNarkyPuffin · 11/04/2011 15:34

Apparently male waxing is quite common in under 25's these days.....

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 11/04/2011 15:43

Men dont wear narrow high heels which are uncomfy, crippeling and can be damaging. They dont wear tiny amounts of clothes meaning they are freezing and most men dont wear cheesewire in between thier arses. It has always been they way, corsets and ribs removed, bandaged feet (waxing mild in comparison) numerous necklaces to stretch necks all done by women at least fashion is not as damaging now.

nope, but these were all deemed, in the appropriate era, as attractive to men.

it doesn't mean they are right!

in fact, i think it means most of these practices are wrong. painful and in the main, detrimental to health.....

Sad
MrSpoc · 11/04/2011 15:44

Sprinkles77 said society's obsession with youth, and at worse a nod to paedophilia - How have you come up with this idea. Are you saying all women/men who shave or wax are peodophiles?

I prefer it cause I dont like to get a mouth full of hair.

Malificence · 11/04/2011 15:46

The Lovehoney sex toy website has a forum, it's quite an eye opener, I can tell you. Wink
I was banned for daring to diss porn ( and hair removal funnily enough) on there.
They fall into two groups , those having lots of sex and describing it in minute detail, and those (men) moaning about how their wives won't give them anal/cover them in slime/have threesomes. etc. etc.....

I now lurk and go Hmm a lot.

noodle69 · 11/04/2011 15:51

I would never dream of waxing my bits cause it sounds to painful. Would never wax my legs either tbh. My husband trims his trims chest hair (god knows why as he hardly has any!) and shaves his face.

I do my armpits but thats it. Never felt the need to do anything else and I watch loads of porn and am in my 20s.

bristolcities · 11/04/2011 15:56

I think it's because having little hair is associated with youth. For reproductive reasons it's obviously more important for a women to be youthful than a it is for a man. And having less body hair is more feminine because it is less manly, does that make sense?

Women mimic lots of images found in porn with boob jobs etc. It's possibly because the majority of porn is aimed at men so women feel more pressure to look like some thing that is going to please men.

noodle69 · 11/04/2011 15:57

Having read that article I think if you feel you have to do it then its insecurity played on by marketers. I have never felt the need to wax anything or shave my legs but then I know I am gorgeous without having to lol Wink

sprinkles77 · 11/04/2011 16:01

MrSpoc, it's only a point of view, and I said "at worst a nod to paedaphilia", definitely am not suggesting that all people who prefer hairless genitals are paedaphiles, just that pubes are a sign of adulthood. This is quite a widely accepted philosophy, but like all philosophies is not necessarily the final word..

SequinsAndSparkles · 11/04/2011 16:03

Ok, to balance things out let me give my point of view.

I always wax the hair, completely. I don't like having hair down there, and funnily enough every guy I've encountered prefers women to be hairless. In fact, amongst a lot of the guys I've known, women with a lot of pubic hair have been described as repulsive. I'm not saying that is right, by the way, but that's what I've been told before now. For a lot of guys I know, it's a big turn off.

Maybe it's an age thing?

I am 22, not sure if that's relevent? But I have been waxing since I was 16, before my 'first time' I waxed it all off, and have done ever since. That's just how I like to be.

MrSpoc · 11/04/2011 16:05

Sorry sprinkles77 but I dont agree. It just seems so 70's. May be it is an age thing.

noodle69 · 11/04/2011 16:06

I am 27 and my husband thinks all hair off is weird so do a lot of young males friends I have. My best friend is 20 and I have lots of good friends who are 19 - 29 and I only know 1 person that does it. If a man is very attracted to you he wont care less about pubes ime.

Crawling · 11/04/2011 16:08

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet I agree with you, I am 23 and most women are appalled by my attire, I wont wear short skirts, heels, wax or wear make up. I wear flat shoes or trainers combats, jeans or trackies (unless working special occasion E.T.C) and have no problem with those that do but what surprises me is no man had ever been negative and I have had no problems getting dates, but many women have said I should make a effort. We do it to ourselves most men dont critisize each others attire.

HipHopopotomus · 11/04/2011 16:08

Maybe its because women like their men to look like men, whereas men who prefer women to be waxed like their women to looks like girls?????

DP is fine with hair thank goodness - I've never been a waxer. If we ever split up & I met someone who wanted a woman who waxed regularly it would be thanks but no thanks as far as I'm concerned.

HipHopopotomus · 11/04/2011 16:09

Just to ad DP isn't into porn and don't think he ever has been either

Crawling · 11/04/2011 16:13

oh and only one guy ever said pubes were repulsive (being a tom boy I was often included in conversations and had to remind I was female) I said 'well it is a good job your a arsehole and are never coming near my repulsive pubes ' he soon changes his mind about just how repulsive pubes were Grin

SequinsAndSparkles · 11/04/2011 16:15

Well of course, a lot of men would do it anyway...but for most of my male friends, DH and past boyfriends..hairless is the preference. I don't think it's very nice either tbh.

BeakerTheMuppetMuppet · 11/04/2011 16:16

HipHop

isn't it more of the bragging rights certain men then use 'look how much pain she has put herself through, because she wants me to want her'?

crawling

Grin the 'secret' is that the wrapping is always discarded, it's the content that's the prize Wink

nikki1978 · 11/04/2011 16:17

I think my DH would try it but he says where would he stop? It is not like me where my hair is just on my legs and bikini area, his goes up his stomach and bum and even the finer hairs all over are darker. He would need a full body wax or would end up with a hairless circle around his know which would look odd Grin

noodle69 · 11/04/2011 16:20

My husband also says hairless is weird liking having sex with a child. He works in a warehouse and all the lads say the same thing. I definitely think a man with no pubes looks weird to

Rather a sweeping assumption isnt it? Hmm
