Not to get why anyone has vertical blinds?

They are ugly things, no? Just been on a walk and noticed how many houses there are with them round here, often in every window. Why would you have them when there are so many nice fabrics around? Or am I missing something?

Ahh a fact you do not deny but you dare to deny the game of still? eh? shame on you hahaha

TinyPawz · 10/04/2011 19:30

You can get pvc type vertical blinds without the chains. Easily wiped clean with damp cloth.

I love mine and have put them into my last 3 houses.

WhoKnowsWhereTheTimeGoes · 10/04/2011 19:38

Another one here who has them on the patio doors in the kitchen (rear facing) for both privacy and insulation purposes. The kitchen is narrow and the worktops on each side meet the back wall right at the edge of the patio doors, so curtains are out. They are plain white and wash easily, we have made them toddler strangle proof by taking the bottom connectors off and cutting the cord in two and having it as short as possible with a curtain ring on each end to pull up and down. The bead bit is still a loop, but is 5' above the ground.

When we moved in there were hideous blue ones, we got a company to just replace the slats, all the workings stayed put, it cost much less than replacing them full stop.

I still haven't seen any reasonable suggestions for what else we could use? TBH, no one sees them except us, we only tend to close them on winter evenings to keep the cold out.

Looks like it's vertical blinds for Scotland and nets for England. You hardly ever see nets in Scotland but in England they're everywhere and just as vile. each to their own vileness.

storynanny · 22/05/2017 09:52

I've just had them fitted across my front room, full width window/wide double patio doors. They are beige. I love them, they divide in the middle for the doors and have a wand not cord to open.
curtains would have looked too heavy and nets wouldn't have kept the sun out, whereas the blinds can be tilted for shade.
I'm old though and probably have inferior design ideas!

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 09:57

I'm Scottish, hate vertical blinds but have them in my living room Confused It's some sort of law here....

SaltySalt · 22/05/2017 09:58

Maybe times have changed now it's 2017!

Vroomster · 22/05/2017 09:58

Zombie thread.

Vertical blinds, laminate floors and a feature wall of large pink flowers. Lovely...

nina2b · 22/05/2017 10:05

Boring zzzzzzzzzz

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 10:06

Argh! Zombie

AlmostAJillSandwich · 22/05/2017 10:08

Having seen the mess cats make of horizontal blinds, they can't get messed up twisted in vertical ones as easily.

Sparklingbrook · 22/05/2017 10:09

A 6 year old thread about vertical blinds. Confused

LoisWilkersonsLastNerve · 22/05/2017 10:18

I've STILL got bloody vertical blindsGrin The zombies are out in force recently, very odd.

Rinkydinkypink · 22/05/2017 10:23

We've had them in every house we've bought. They've been taken down in days of us moving in.

We've got Roman blinds on most windows now except our south facing downstairs rooms. Stiff Voile roller blinds with chrome fixings but they were not easy to fit and difficult to clean.

Chloe1984 · 22/05/2017 10:27

My cousin sold her house not too long ago, Victorian mid terrace. About 5 or 6 years before they sold they had original-looking double glazed solid wood sash windows installed along with some very nice wooden shutters. The person they sold to replaced it with pvc (not even the stuff that looks real but isn't) and also put vertical blinds up. Idiot.

MrsJoyOdell · 22/05/2017 10:28

We have at every window - our home is rented so they aren't our choice, but whilst they might be 'ugly' (I don't actually mind them) they are useful, convenient and easy to clean.

sallywiththegoodhurr · 22/05/2017 10:37

We have them (rented house), they were put in by our tasteless landlord just before we moved In.

As much as I hate them, they are useful. We have very poor natural lighting in our living room but need privacy as our window is close to the street.

drspouse · 22/05/2017 10:37

I'm going to get voile roller blinds for our bedroom bay window. In our old house we had horizontal wooden slat blinds upstairs, and a screen (made out of battens and tracing paper) downstairs.

I also hate nets, and vertical roller blinds.

@storynanny Why reactivate a six year old ZOMBIE thread just to give your insight about blinds? Confused

Funnyfarmer · 22/05/2017 10:49

What other blinds could you have on patio doors?
