she claims what ever you are allowed for having two dc,no husband,no earnings. She has her mortgage paid too (interest only by gov).
She is working for an accident claims company cash in hand £70 a day and more money if the public that she names has a successful claim.
She works 5 days a week. It's not guarenteed work but she's been doing for a few months now!
She's got loads of money&me&my dh can hardly afford to pay the mortgage let alone book a holiday as she did today to Spain!
If I'm honest I'm jealous. I have no treats. My dh gets up every day at 5/6 a.m& works so hard. We have no luxuries. Sad

Can I "lol"? Please, won't someone permit me to "lol" ?????

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:16

You can lol if you like. I will judge you for it though.

MaisyMooCow · 01/04/2011 22:18

Please tell me the name of the company she works for, I could do with some extra cash!!

(btw, I don't claim benefits!)

LoveLeonardCohen · 01/04/2011 22:21

But what if you really did literally Laugh out loud, then how to express that sentiment in non-lol terms?

everthebeliver · 01/04/2011 22:24

my best friend claims sickness benefits, she also childminds her niece for the extra money. Would I report her? No I am her friend and I would hate to see her sink YABU if she is "your friend"

timetomove · 01/04/2011 22:28

So for those in the don't report camp, what about this?

I know someone who earns 6 figures. She has a nanny who she pays 550 a week. Net. This is paid cash in hand so no paye is paid on this salary. Nanny in turn is claiming benefits, so double whammy. She gets housing benefit and is saving it for a deposit on a house.

I do not see how they will not get caught.

There is actually a lot of this with nannies. I had reason to employ a temp nanny recently and I found it very hard to find someone who was happy for me to operate paye (even though I was prepared to pay the same net).

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:28

You say HAHAHA. or hahaha. or HAHAHAHhaahhahahahHAHA HARRRRRRRR (that's a big one obviously)

usualsuspect · 01/04/2011 22:29

lol

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:30

What's your point timetomove?

I'm curious who you hold the greater contempt for? The nanny earning and claiming or the employer paying cash in hand and not paying the necessary taxes?

Oh! what a lovely conundrum

everthebeliver · 01/04/2011 22:31

TIMETOMOVE: thats a bit different my friend is on sickness benefits and probably earns about £50.00 per week for her food shop. People on 6 figure numbers claiming benefits is a whole different ball game and especially one who can afford a nanny

DuelingFanjo · 01/04/2011 22:35

"This is the last time I'm coming on here"

more bullshit Grin

shirleyknot, you are hillarious.

suburbanslob · 01/04/2011 22:36

I couldn't report a friend. I don't agree with what she is doing though.

MissGreatBritain · 01/04/2011 22:41

I'd report her, because I don't like unfairness. There are people out there who could genuinely do with that money. I reported a friend for not having a TV licence, because she kept showing off about it, thinking she was really clever. Not so clever when the men turned up at her door. I am a stickler for rules, I'm afraid so i think you should report her.

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:46

Thank you Duelling.

I once showed off about having put a plastic yoghurt pot into our main bin. I was all "Oh yeah, you know that main bin is only meant to be about rubbish that you can't recycle? Yeah? Well I stuck a yoghurt pot in there and a bottle of wine" and all my friends laughed and said I was cool.

Of course, later it all turned sour. One of those friends felt that they had to report me. It ruined my joy in life.

Now I recycle everything correctly, but a little bit of my soul...well...it's dead to be honest.

usualsuspect · 01/04/2011 22:46

MissGreatBritain
good for you
its what Britain needs
all in it together

LoveLeonardCohen · 01/04/2011 22:47

MissGreatBritain - you reported a 'friend' for not having a TV License, good friend of yours were they? Really? And you did that out of resentment and presumably to put her in her place for showing off....gosh with friends like you and all that

timetomove · 01/04/2011 22:48

To clarify the person who earns 6 figures is paying tax on her own income and is not claiming benefits, but is not declaring paye on her nanny's salary. I feel contempt for the double whammy effect of this - employer not declaring paye and employee claiming benefits - so not contributing to the pot what should be contributed and taking out what they are not entitled to. The point is simply where do you draw the line - in my scenario neither the employer nor nanny would be on the breadline ( by some margin) if the tax was declared and benefits not claimed. I assumed most people would find this unacceptable, and my question is whether the amounts involved would affect people's views of whether it is wrong to report a friend ( whether the friend happens to be the nanny or the employer).

I am not planning to report by the way, but i find it hard to see how they won't get caught and I am worried for them about the fallout.

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:50

We are all in this together usual. All of us. Except for the scroungers, the disabled, the cheats, the homeless, the artists, the nurses, the civil service, the firemen, the teachers, the police (? always a tory stronghold!) the librarians, the...oh snore. I'm bored already.

usualsuspect · 01/04/2011 22:52

fucking scrounging fuckers

now show me your tits

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 22:55

Yeah thanks for pointing that out timetomove - I think I'd grasped the thrust of your post. Hmm

I'm sure that the tax the employer is not paying pretty much equals out against what the nanny is claiming? If the nanny works cash in hand - in order to save the employer their contributions towards NI etc, and doesn't claim, then she's fucked isn't she? You know...in the fututre when they start totting up her pension contributions, or if she needs to claim government support

Whatever.

timetomove · 01/04/2011 22:58

She works for a bank if it makes a difference.....

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 23:00

what?

crystalglasses · 01/04/2011 23:08

I don't understand this thread at all! However I disapprove of benefit cheats and would shop them if I had proof.

usualsuspect · 01/04/2011 23:10

crystalglasses

ShirleyKnot · 01/04/2011 23:17

I don't understand this thread at all either but totally disagree with glasses for badgers.

Yes. Glasses for badgers is just wasting precious tax payers money on short sighted wildlife. I SAY NO to that.
