AIBU to think that obese people should be extra careful on moving buses?

I had an obese mum land her entire body weight on my right knee yesterday as the bus we were travelling on jolted forwards - I was already sitting with ds, she had just got on with her husband and toddler. She apologised and even gave my knee a quick pat.

I woke up in pain today. There were plenty of handles to hold onto (it was a very modern bus) and def not overcrowded. I had intended to run many important errands today though I cannot do this anymore as it would be too painful. I am fuming.

Obese + clumsy = do not travel by bus ??

I would like to say i am overweight but dont have low self esteeem i,m happy with myself and my dh i could use the excuse i had a baby ten months ago or i hve a slow metabolism but really i just eat to much of the wrong things i would like to lose weight at some point but in my own time not when judgemental people tell me to self esteem is all about how you feel about yourself when i was slimmer but single with no children [ had been on my own on and off for years] my self esteem was much lower now im in a good relationship with two kids i adore my self esteeem is much higher because i,m happier in myself nothing to do with weight.

madonna - I am generally considered to be attractive, yes. Obviously, I am not insanely beautiful anymore but definitely still hold my own.

If you don't have low esteem and are overweight than that's great; you don't necessarily represent the majority of high BMIs though.

OK WAIT A SECOND!...

YOU!...

Met a Polish woman who was bigger than a size 10!!!!!???!!!!!

A rarity indeed.

You should have taken a picture of the moment because I don't think many will believe you.

squirt squirt squirt

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2011 14:06

Figcake you just prove my point that being slim doesn't make for confidence.

I have been every size between a size 8 and a size 16....The happiest and most confident I have been is when I was and am bigger.

omnishambles · 28/03/2011 14:10

I am insanely beautiful

But anyway ahem, back to the OP - I am always interested in how people know all of these people are speaking Polish and not some other eastern european language. Or was she wearing a big sign?

Deliainthemaking · 28/03/2011 14:19

I hope this is a pisstake, the fault of someone jotling forward on a bus is ultimately the drivers if they break too hard without slowing down enough they will fall.

I'm sorry you you can't run 'important errands' today because obese people don't defy gravity, get a fucking grip.

tubeofcanesten · 28/03/2011 14:30

Fact is the consequences of having an obese person fall on you are greather than lighter people.

Deliainthemaking · 28/03/2011 14:32

the fault is ultimately the drivers that she fell that is what I'm objecting to.

if she had jumped at you from across the bus i could see your point

I just read 'seperating buttocks in well worn leggings' ROFL i'm in tears

Emmanana · 28/03/2011 14:43

She fell on you. It was an accident. The lady apologised.

I'm so thankful she didn't hurt herself on your narrow mind, or your razor sharp tongue.

Just hope this goes over the top of your son's head as you recount the tale in RL. Kids copy by example, and I'd hate to think he hears an adult talking in such a way, and that it is acceptable to be mean about other people.

wahwahwah · 28/03/2011 14:44

It is a game that the bud srivers play (I think so anyway) to see how many people they can make fall over by stopping or starting suddenly. They also get extra points if they manage to seperate a child from it's parent by closing the doors too fast.

It's the smelly people on buses who bother me. Or those with particularly irritating ringtones.

Emmanana · 28/03/2011 15:03

I am generally considered to be attractive, yes. Obviously, I am not insanely beautiful anymore but definitely still hold my own

That may be the case, but if your posts were read to someone with a visual impairment they may disagree....

Being 'attractive' and 'able to hold your own' are obviously things you measure by appearance.

bemybebe · 28/03/2011 15:21

I have to say, I would actually be very pissed off with the driver and take it up with the bus company if I felt as strong as OP about the incident. I have noticed (maybe I am wrong) that very often bus drivers drive without any care and (maybe) even have fun causing mayhem with their erratic start/stop.

When someone on the larger side fell accidentally on me a year or so back I stopped using bus and started walking (it was only a short distance anyway). I was also hurt. It would not even occur to me to blame the poor soul that fell, it was an accident and definitely not their fault.

ChippingInMistressSteamMop · 28/03/2011 15:46
Hmm

Better obese than ignorant.

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2011 15:57

I do have to defend bus drivers here.

The older buses which most of these accidents occur on are fitted with different brakes to newer buses. The older brakes are harsher when applied, this is when accidents happen.

So in actual fact it is not the drivers fault either.

I'll be damned if this isn't a wind up!

Rosmarin · 28/03/2011 16:31

She should have grabbed hold of something - it's easy enough for anyone to lose their balance when the driver pulls away too quickly (which they always seem to do).

Although it's annoying you're in pain (and hopefully it will go away soon) she probably has a lot more issues due to her obesity, and falling onto a woman in public probably humiliated her. Poor lady!

Your OP is a bit inflammatory I think.

pinkytheshrinky · 28/03/2011 16:34

You do know this makes you look like a complete asshole don't you? Have a fucking Biscuit

upyourdiva · 28/03/2011 17:03

cauliflowersfluffy · 28/03/2011 17:05

I used to be a size 6 and now I'm a size 16 and I dont have low self esteem I'm quite happy at the way I am I had more energy when I was thinner but people said I looked ill and my size says nothing about me as a person do you think I should stay off public transport too how dare you YABVU.

flippinpeedoff · 28/03/2011 17:09

Jellykat · 28/03/2011 17:39

YABU I used to have my 18 stone XP on top of me quite often, and despite being a size 12 myself, i could still run important errands the following day. Wink
