AIBU to think that obese people should be extra careful on moving buses?

I had an obese mum land her entire body weight on my right knee yesterday as the bus we were travelling on jolted forwards - I was already sitting with ds, she had just got on with her husband and toddler. She apologised and even gave my knee a quick pat.

I woke up in pain today. There were plenty of handles to hold onto (it was a very modern bus) and def not overcrowded. I had intended to run many important errands today though I cannot do this anymore as it would be too painful. I am fuming.

Obese + clumsy = do not travel by bus ??

being overweight myself i think may be its not just our fault pr,haps buses should nt jerk and drive off so fast whan they have a bus load of people including babies and toddlers about eighteen months ago i got on the bus with my then two and a half year old and holding onto him tigthlythe bus jerked forward and i accidently stepped on a n older ladies toe she deliberatly pushed me causing me to nearly fall over what she didnt know was that i had just found out i was pregnant if i had fallen over i could of halmed my baby i shouted at her and told her i was pregnant and their was know need to push me so yes may be us fatties should be more careful but to deliberatly push someone for standing on your toe is unaccetable i could also have fallen onto my toddler her husband looked suitably embarrassed and told her off

wildfig · 28/03/2011 10:26

Ah, the leggings/buttocks drip feed. I suppose the next reveal will be that she wasn't holding on to the bar because she had a Gregg's sausage roll in one hand, and a bottle of Baileys in the other?

MaryAnnSingleton · 28/03/2011 10:27

figcake - you are totally unreasonable and it is hateful to post this mean thing-I hope you feel ashamed

figcake · 28/03/2011 10:27

Well, afterwards, she was actually smirking as she recounted what had just happened to her husband who had previously been folding up the buggy at the front of the bus. She was using eye gestures and speaking in Polish so I did not understand what was being said exactly, though they decamped to the top deck of the bus a few minutes later.

yanbu. obese people should all be locked on an island with only fresh fruit to survive on until they are slim enough to rejoin society.

wanker.

MmeLindt · 28/03/2011 10:28

ooooh, leggings and Polish speaking

You are not doing yourself any favours today, Figcake.

Am not sure if Biscuit is appropriate here.

Having just lost 3 stone and being much more toned, and having been recently pregnant (and travelled on the tube which also lurches forward etc) I'd comment:

a) well toned well built people (see rugby player comment above) are much more likely to be stable (ie less likely to fall) that overweight or pregnant people. I am more stable now I am not not overweight and am toned.

b) pregnant women often offered seats, but obese woman generally not - however if she was with toddler someone should have offered her a seat.

c) Whether you are overweight or not, if you are less stable (clumsy) you should hold on.

So perhaps a better question would be - should clumsy people hold on whilst on public transport - yes they should is the answer.

I know Mme but I am telling it like it is, that's all. We were travelling through a part of London where this is pretty much the norm. I really wish we had taken the car.

Where is this enclave of clumsy, smirking Polish Weebles, so we can all take care to avoid it in future, for the sake of our knees?

figcake · 28/03/2011 10:34

Near Wood Green. We were going to Ally Pally for an exhibition.

LOL Wildfig.

Abcinthia · 28/03/2011 10:39

YABU

I've fallen over on the bus whilst holding on.

madonnawhore · 28/03/2011 10:40

I was standing on a crowded bus once on my way to work. I was wearing open toe shoes and this massive 6'5" brick shit house of a man got on the bus and without realising, put his entire weight on my exposed little toe.

The pain was so intense I actually couldn't speak, so was unable to ask him to get off. It was only a couple of seconds before the bus jolted and he lifted his foot to regain his balance, but those were some of the most excruciating seconds of my life.

My point being: buses are dangerous and heavy people aren't necessarily obese.

starshaker · 28/03/2011 10:41

Wildfig im sure it wasnt baileys clearly it would have been a fruit shoot. Or maybe a fruitshoot bottle with baileys inside (wouldnt want to spill any when falling over)

JeremyVile · 28/03/2011 10:44

I rarely indulge in this kind of nonsense, but some glaring peculiarities....

1)The bus jolted forwards....and she ended up sat on your knee?

2)Seperating buttocks in well worn leggins.

3)An obese Polish woman.

4)An obese person going upstairs.

5)Someone folding their pram on a "def not overcrowded" bus.

Ormirian · 28/03/2011 10:46

ROFLING happily at 'Polish weebles'.

JaneS · 28/03/2011 10:47

Yes, really fat people should fly.

Done.

DontGoCurly · 28/03/2011 10:47

On London it is tubby tourists with armfulls of Primark bags losing their balance on the buses and stamping on your toes.

bemybebe · 28/03/2011 10:52

Haha, happened to me once on a my daily 10min bus journey. I decided to walk thereafter instead and take bus only if the weather is truly awful.
