AIBU to think that obese people should be extra careful on moving buses?

I had an obese mum land her entire body weight on my right knee yesterday as the bus we were travelling on jolted forwards - I was already sitting with ds, she had just got on with her husband and toddler. She apologised and even gave my knee a quick pat.

I woke up in pain today. There were plenty of handles to hold onto (it was a very modern bus) and def not overcrowded. I had intended to run many important errands today though I cannot do this anymore as it would be too painful. I am fuming.

Obese + clumsy = do not travel by bus ??

Maybe she should have paid for 2 tickets if she was very very fat.

TigerFeet · 28/03/2011 11:07

pmsl @ bariatric bus

did she have armfuls of bags containing greggs sausage rolls and fruit shoots?

TigerFeet · 28/03/2011 11:08

Have you rung one of those "injured in an accident and not your fault?" claim lines yet? I would.

Mariez · 28/03/2011 11:09

Really? are you ok?

worraliberty · 28/03/2011 11:10

I think the Polish woman should sue.

I mean really anyone with skinny knees are a public liability...they could be classed as offensive weapons!

plopplopquack · 28/03/2011 11:13

It can be bloody hard to hold on though. Was on a bus while pregnant and someone pulled infront on the bus and it did an emergency stop. Id just started to scoot towards the edge of the seat to get up and was holding on but still went flying!

FreudianSlippery · 28/03/2011 11:25

Maybe you should put on some weight, figcake - the padding would've protected your poor frail knee.

I had a really Embarrassing Incident once. (I guess only once isn't bad, considering we don't see the bus as a treat - PMSL - we use them every day because we are Poor...)

I was pregnant and sitting next to my DD in her brand new pushchair. A really twatty lorry driver pulled out in front of the bus and our driver had to stop really fast. Everyone flew forward, and I went sideways (I was sitting on the sideways seats IYSWIM) at great speed.

The buggy actually bent Shock

Got a replacement needless to say, and said replacement has lasted 2 years with no such damage, so I'm hoping the original was a dodgy one rather than my enormous pregnant form which wrecked it Blush

eaglewings · 28/03/2011 11:28

Were your knees sticking out or were you on a sideways seat - otherwise how did her buttocks split over your knee?

Everyone on public transport should have 3rd party insurance so we can sue them...

thefirstMrsDeVere · 28/03/2011 11:31

Did the fat Polish woman's bubba have its ears pierced?

Dawnyann · 28/03/2011 11:35

i'd be more pi**ed off at the fact that her butt cheeks had encased my leg like that ergh bet they were all sweaty & damp under those leggins!!!! Shock hahaha

Emmanana · 28/03/2011 11:37

OP. Congratulations on being a size 10, English Speaking, and not using public transport regularly.
There was a slight accident ; shit happens. I'm sorry it happened, but trying to question every facet of this lady's exsistence in order to validate your position as 'victim' really says more about you than her...
Her size, nationality etc is really quite irrelevant to what happened, but if it makes you feel superior...Bad woman for not apologising to you for being overweight and Polish. How dare she taint your 'perfect' world? Shock

ForShizzle · 28/03/2011 11:38

"her buttocks appeared to separate on either side of my knee"

Maybe she was smirking because she enjoyed it?

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2011 11:39

I would have sworn by the OPs first post she was the silly woman I had a row with on the bus yesterday.

Except I didn't fall and although of Polish decent am not obese Grin

FabbyChic · 28/03/2011 11:41

No excuse for obesity though is there? The old chestnut thyroid doesn't work anymore cos its bollocks.

Personally think they should pay double the fare as they take up double the space.

belledechocchipcookie · 28/03/2011 11:42

It's the old people who are in a hurry to get off the bus here. When the bus comes to a sudden stop they go flying!! It happens almost every day and they never learn to stay in their seat until the bus stops. (can you tell I'm trying to change the subject?) Grin

Asinine · 28/03/2011 11:44

I went on a train at the weekend. It was full of people. How irritating.

purplebrickroad · 28/03/2011 11:44

Right about lurching bodies on buses, but I would choose to be sat on by an 'obese' person than a skinny, pointy person.

Stiletto danger is greater in for real pain.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 28/03/2011 11:45

Only I should be allowed on the bus.

TheCoalitionNeedsYou · 28/03/2011 11:46

Also: 3 stop minimum journey enforced by rabid weasels.

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2011 11:48

Fabby, serious question here. Do you not think some people are just big?

I know 2 people who are large. Neither eat crap or a lot, both do a lot of walking but haven't ever changed their clothes size.

1 of them is my mum and she eats less than me, works in a school, walks a lot, is very active but is still a 24 in clothes.

The other is a friend, he has been big since he was 8yrs old. He also eats very little, and is very active, runs scouts takes part in plenty of exercise, is training to be a nurse. BUT his weight never changes. He is on the waiting list for a gastric bypass.

I know some people are overweight due to food intake/lack of exercise but I do think with others this is not always the case.

belledechocchipcookie · 28/03/2011 11:49

I'd like to ban smelly people from public transport. Grin

I had a very annoying woman behind me this morning who kept sending text messages, half an hour of bloody beeping noises. If you're going to text turn the damn key sounds off!

JeremyVile · 28/03/2011 11:49

TLES!

TheLadyEvenstar · 28/03/2011 11:50
