To feel scared being pregnant aged 36

....Just found out to my surprise but joy that we are expecting baby no.4. However I am 36 and having spent the evening googling stuff about pregnancy over 35, I know, it was a mistake, I wanted reassurance more than anything, I feel scared, tearful and convinced that something is going to wrong. Please tell me some pregnancy age 35 plus success stories because I've gone from excited to feeling sick and panicked.

Thoughts become things; choose the good ones.

Had first at 36 and pregnant with second at 38. No complications. First was a home birth and second will be too. I even ran 2 miles, 3 times a week up to six months, with this one.

Girlfriend had first at 40 and second at 43. No complications.

Yes, it's hard not to worry but there are plenty of people out there (and on here obviously!) having children in their late thirties and older with no problems.

I had my third at 39; an easy 45 minute labour as opposed to 17 1/2 hours with my first ten years earlir. Loads of my friends had perfectly healthy babies when they were "older mothers" too. The people I know who have children with significant disabilities had them in their 20s, you just never know. Congrats.

I conceived my first child very quickly at 36. I worried hugely about my nuchal scan which actually gave me a risk lower than that of a 15 year old. I had a good pregnancy, quick labour and normal delivery. We've got a beautiful healthy baby girl who is 5 months old. The worst bit was the initial few weeks after our daughter was born due to problems with bf - this would have been easier if this had been our second child as we would not have been so overwhelmed by the situation. I want another child before I'm 40. Good luck - I'm sure all will be fine.

thumbwitch · 26/03/2011 06:42

had my first at 40, no problems at all. He's a lovely 3yo now and I am pg with #2 at 43, will be 44 when it's born. so far no issues but haven't had the first scan yet!

HouseTooSmall · 26/03/2011 07:25

You are a whipper snapper! Like others I started late. 2 kids - 1 late 30', the other nearly 43. Calm down!!

supergreenuk · 26/03/2011 07:28

I had my first at 36 and I am expecting now and will have it when I am 38. DD1 is perfect.
My sister has just had her 1st at 39. Also perfect.

Skinit · 26/03/2011 07:36

I had my 2nd (planned) at 36 and never even gave it a thought...no problems, lovely baby girl...healthy...in fact my 1st prenancy at 31 was FAR more difficult! If you''re fit and healthy you'll be great. There's very little difference between 34 and 36...just numbers....if you were aed 34 would you worry? No...dont even think about it.

slipperandpjsmum · 26/03/2011 08:50

I didn't think people thought this anymore really. I had my 4th at 40 and he was fine. None of the medical staff were concerned and pregnancy/baby fine. We didn't have any of the test. There were plenty of women in the hospital older than me.

Don't spend your whole pregnancy worrying and enjoy - congratulations!!

Had dd when I was 1 mth off 38.

Virtually symptom free pregnance, didn't vomit once (well, once I did but because of a migraine, not MS) Er, worked till I was 8mths. Only put 10 k on, vaginal birth with epidural, lasted about 4 hrs, breastfed no problems.
I did have an amnio, because I wanted to be sure I knew what I was up against, should I be up against anything.

Congratulations on your pg!

hoolabombshell · 26/03/2011 09:09

I had DS 2 weeks before my 38th birthday. He is lying gurgling in his sleep across the room from me now, a perfectly healthy 6 week old. I plan on (hopefully) having my 2nd at 39. Not even worried.

cwtch4967 · 26/03/2011 09:15

I had my first at 37 and my second at 40, I would have had them earlier if I could have but such is life! I don't have as much energy as some younger mums but I'm older and wiser and take things more in my stride.

Laquitar · 26/03/2011 09:18

36 is not old nowdays Shock Wink

I had my first at 39.

Enjoy your surprise and take good care of yourself Smile

Congratulation and all the best!

blackeyedsusan · 26/03/2011 09:21

similar to cwtch, first at 37, second at 39... Didn't meet h til mid 30's so what can you do?

Loonytoonie · 26/03/2011 09:22

DD3 was conceived when I was 36, no problems at all. Speedy labour too (4 hours from start to finish - totally unforgettable).
Don't waste time worrying and try to enjoy your pregnancy (you lucky thing).
Congratulations!

Loonytoonie · 26/03/2011 09:24

Just to add - at work, I bound up the stairs 2 at a time and can move like lightening - quicker than my younger colleagues by far - having a crazy toddler around the place is better than any gym membership lol).

JulesJules · 26/03/2011 09:29

36? You are practically a teenager. Grin

I had my dds at 41 and 3 months off 44...

Yes, the odds are worse, but the risk is still small - I did have CVB which was nerve wracking at the time, but once I knew everything was OK I was able to relax and enjoy my pg.

Good luck.

mollycuddles · 26/03/2011 09:36

Had dd2 at 38 last year. Rubbish pregnancy but not age related. I'm just not good at pregnancy. I'm no more tired than with ds, 12 years ago, or dd1, 9 years ago. But I'm enjoying it more because I'm more relaxed and she's given me the incentive to get fit. I'm now running x3 a week and in the best shape I've been in for years and have tons more energy in preparation for when she's a toddler. You'll be grand.

tallulah · 26/03/2011 10:08

I had my first 4 DCs in my 20s, then DD2 at 43. The only difference was I got more tired towards the end, but then I am considerably heavier than I was in my 20s, so that could account for it.

glasnost · 26/03/2011 11:09

I had baby 6 months ago at grand ole age of 39. Was best experience of my life and now am regretting having left first so late and am ready to get cracking on the second! However if you already have 3 maybe your concerns are more related to fact of having yet another mouth to feed rather than age?? Just throwing it out there. Otherwise relax and enjoy your fecundity!

BTW googling more than anything can be seriously detrimental to your health. Smile

fluffywhitekittens · 26/03/2011 12:57

First at 33, second at 37. No age related issues (apart from possibly being a bit more knackered!)
Congratulations and good luck.

smartyparts · 26/03/2011 15:24

Gosh, don't be daft!

I have 4 friends that are either pregnant or have just had babies, all older than you. The oldest is going to be 40 this year!

Relax, enjoy and congratulations!

pippitysqueakity · 26/03/2011 15:32
