to be a bit pissed off with a 2:2? Make me feel better. What degree did you get?

My small dissertation disaster pulled my overall marks back so much I missed out on a 2:1.

I am unreasonably pissed off. I got a 2:1 with my last degree and wanted the same, if not better, this time.

humph.

make me feel better please?

I got a Desmond too. Best thing about it was that it humbled me a bit and makes me less up myself as I do tend to think I am rather amazing...!

PaperView · 21/03/2011 20:31

I have no degree so you having 2 degrees is much better than that.

Now stop moaning Grin

Athrawes · 21/03/2011 20:32

My 2:2 was a sign of having had a really rather good time as an undergraduate! It has not held me back though.

myredcardigan · 21/03/2011 20:33

I was sort of the opposite. My dissertation pulled me up to a 2:1 as I was heading for a 2:2. But tbh, as I then went on to do a pgce, nobody gives a toss so I need not have bothered working my arse off.

Don't beat yourself up about it. Unless you needed a 2:1 for your job, nobody will really notice although I can see how it would annoy it.

If it was just one catastrophic mistake with your diss, will they not let you resubmit?

buttonmooncup · 21/03/2011 20:34

2:2 here as well. As near to a 2:1 as I could have been without them bumping it up. I was pissed off! But you have 2 degrees which is pretty good!

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:35

dear god don't suggest i have to redo the fucker. never, ever, ever again. DH couldn't take it, let alone me Grin

CONGRATULATIONS! to a fellow nurse, I believe?
I studied with the OU and did really well with the TMAs but less well with the exam.
Mum died just before the last 2 TMAs and I still felt crap by the time the exam came round.
I got a Third Sad I was pissed off for a week them thought WTF, I've done well!
Graduation is next month, I'm looking forward to it!

LCarbury · 21/03/2011 20:36

Congratulations. I have a Desmond, never held me back in the slightest.

IreneHeron · 21/03/2011 20:37

I got a 2:2 too, I had one disaster of an extended essay that pulled my mark down. I feel your pain.

Honeydragon · 21/03/2011 20:38

I got a 2:1 and if it was not for a really Blush Blush fucking stupid Blush Blush mistake in my dissertation I would have got a first.

MillyR · 21/03/2011 20:39

I looked at AHRC funding stats and if your university put you forward for PhD funding, the AHRC was as likely to give you funding with a 2.2 as a 2.1.

I can't think of many situations where it would matter.

DaphneHeartsFred · 21/03/2011 20:39

Umm, why do you need 2 degrees anyway?

My cousin has 3, not sure why. Apart from to delay going to work because he knew he would inherit quite a lot from his grandfather. And then he went out and got a job.

So I hope it doesn't sound like I'm being snotty, I'd genuinely like to know!!

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:40

bcause i am greedy daph.

PickleSarnie · 21/03/2011 20:40

Prrrrft. I got a Douglas Hurd. I never tell people that. Ever. But I've never lied because no company I've ever applied to has asked. I do have an MSc though which I think has distracted employers attention from my crap first degree.

I got ridiculously stressed in my final year. To the point of having beta blockers through the day and temazepan to get me through the nights. Thought I had ruined my life by messing up my degree but, in the end, it didn't matter one jot.

I did however get my degree many years ago when I guess there were slightly less graduates. Not sure it would be the same these days.

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:41

nah. first was nursey degree, then this one.
it doesn't matter a jot. i have a job and nobody sane is eer going to ask which class i got. but i'm still a bit hacked off.

Fairy Nuff.

My cousin didn't even use any of his degrees for his chosen career. He's a BSL Interpreter. Smart arse!

(I am quite fond of him really!)

unfitmother · 21/03/2011 20:42

I start my Masters in October, need to catch up!

pookamoo · 21/03/2011 20:42

I got a 2:2 as well.

a "ballet degree" i.e. a tutu... a bit like Desmond, I suppose.

You're right, nobody ever asks.

MillyR · 21/03/2011 20:42

2 degrees isn't that many. Some people do 3 (BSc, Msc, PhD) plus a PGCE. If you do a second undergraduate degree because you are changing career, you can often carry over some of the previous course marks so you do not have to do a full degree in order to get awarded a second undergraduate degree.

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:44

what shall i do next? quite fancy a PhD and being Dr Cervix Grin but DH and the DDs would leave me.

OP posts:
ifancyashandy · 21/03/2011 20:44

Oooooh, you're all making me want to go back and do a second degree! I adored writing essays.

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:45

weirdo

OP posts:
MillyR · 21/03/2011 20:45

Do an MA or an MSc. You could do it part time to stop your family getting annoyed.

supadupapupascupa · 21/03/2011 20:47

2:2 here, exactly the same as you op, cocked up my dissertation.

matters not a jot.

rightmoon · 21/03/2011 20:47

Well I have a first, but it's not helped me at all in my career. Nobody's ever even asked me what type of degree I got. And now I'm a SAHM so nobody's unlikely to in the future.
