to be a bit pissed off with a 2:2? Make me feel better. What degree did you get?

My small dissertation disaster pulled my overall marks back so much I missed out on a 2:1.

I am unreasonably pissed off. I got a 2:1 with my last degree and wanted the same, if not better, this time.

humph.

make me feel better please?

Well done! Maggie Thatcher got a Desmond, I believe.

Ragwort · 21/03/2011 20:48

I got a 2:1 but really no one has ever, ever asked. I've never had a job anyway that needed a degree - certainly don't need one now as a SAHM Grin with no intention of returning to work Smile.

Huffymuffy · 21/03/2011 20:54

I got a......drumroll.....pass. It was 1994 I worked my ass off in final year but at no other time, pre course work/continous assessment days, so actually my final year was a waste because no hons. But it has made no difference tbh and I refuse to even try another. Got post grads and cpd up the ying yang though! So well done on your 2:2, not bad!

gapbear · 21/03/2011 20:54

2:2, too

Stuffed up my prelims in the second year, by answering the wrong question Blush

Also met my husband at uni, so spent a bit less time studying than I should have. But it's all fine, hasn't been a problem.

AtYourCervix · 21/03/2011 20:55

i do have 2 (hons) too Grin

Another Desmond here, and no one's ever asked me what I got. It hasn't held me back at all, and it proves I had an amazing social life Blush

PlentyOfPrimroses · 21/03/2011 21:00

Well, I got a first, then got AHRC funding for an MA and got a distinction in that and guess what? I seem to be unemployable because I have such a patchy work history and the subjects I chose were frivolous and self-indulgent. I've come to the conclusion that all I'm really good at is being at college. I'd like to do a PhD too but I'm in the arts and and you have to come up with your own idea for a PhD and I have No. Fucking. Ideas. Any. More.

Congratulations! I think a 2.2 in something genuinely useful like nursing is worth far more than what I've got.

JaneS · 21/03/2011 21:00

You have two degrees, you silly woman! Just be proud of yourself will you! Grin

Congratulations.

orienteerer · 21/03/2011 21:02

I got a 2:2 in 1985Grin, in those days it was considered a good grade. To put it in perspective there were 50 on my course, no one got a 1st, 2 got a 2:1, 2 got a 3rd and the rest of us a 2:2.

ramblingmum · 21/03/2011 21:02

I got a 2:2. I went a way with a bunch of uni friends just as we all got are marks. They all got 2:1s. But I was the only one with a graduate job lined up so didn't care.

bettydraperswardrobeelf · 21/03/2011 21:03

2:2 - totally messed up my dissertation too. Nobody has ever asked me what I got though....

duchesse · 21/03/2011 21:07

I got a 3rd at the end of a frankly lacklustre academic career. If I tell you that I got 1 point below a 1st for my third year dissertation you will have some idea quite how appallingly I did at the exams. I seemed to have had a problem with degree exams, sadly; failed a paper every year in the days before retakes and could never get more than a 3rd overall.

Subsequently got a very high 2:1 for my MA so can't be that stoopid.

pranma · 21/03/2011 21:13

I got a 2:1[35 years ago] as did all the ladies in my lot[dd,dsd,d-i-l and sd-i-l].All the lads got 2:2 including dh who went on to get MA and MPhil give yourself a pat on the back.A 2:2 is a 'good honours degree'.

MistyB · 21/03/2011 21:13

I'm not sure I've ever gotten over mine!! I was angry for a very long time!!

I had written a long post explaining why they were wrong and I am a better person for having made the choices that I did when I realised I am still bitter Blush!!

Take time to feel angry then convince yourself that you are a better person than they are!! Grin

overthehillmum · 21/03/2011 21:14

how did you mess up your dissertation, (to anyone that has said they did)? I only ask because I hand mines in on Friday and I am stressing out a bit about it....

Honeydragon · 21/03/2011 21:28

overthehillmum

I paid to have it binded, dropped it off all printed having checked it, proof read it etc etc.

Only after its return and marks did I know I'd fucked up all the initial page numbers for the contents, bibliography and introduction.

I was doing a English literature degree Blush

I am sorry if I have now added to your paranoia, but scrupulously check if you have handed your dissertation to anyone else before handing it in.

overthehillmum · 21/03/2011 21:36

Thanks Honeydragon, I am checking the page numbers tomorrow so I should be okay for that, I am printing it off and going through it, I am more worried about the research methods, I have been told my first draft needs beefed up so I am frantically reading up on that, he said I need to list the reasons I haven't chosen certain methods, that and I am now worried that my analysis hasn't pulled together....I am totally stressing out ....come friday I am getting hammered, I have been ding this part time, HNC, HND and now the hons deg for a total of 8 years....had enough.....

oopslateagain · 21/03/2011 21:41

Well I say bloody well done for getting a 2:2! Honestly, you have 2 degrees and you should be proud of yourself.

I have a 2:2, I worked hard for it and I am pleased as punch.

Galena · 21/03/2011 21:50

I got a third class hons first time round.

And I just finished an OU degree with first class hons. Grin

dementedma · 21/03/2011 22:30

2:1 here

hmc · 21/03/2011 22:35

You did good, well done you!

IngridFletcher · 21/03/2011 22:38

A first. Has never got me anywhere!

RatherBeOnThePiste · 21/03/2011 22:39

Yaaaayyyy

I got a first!

At the time it meant the world. Now it really means diddly squat. But it was fab.
