Just happened upon the last one and liked it, so ...

I don't think The King's Speech is that great a film; I think the directing was often unimaginative, cliched and banal and the script obvious. And Helena Bonham Carter wasn't that good.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 16:41

Oh, yes I loved Enid Blyton as a child though.

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:41

I bow before your superior intellect LOTM.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/03/2011 16:42

I got 10 house points for my essay on Judy Bloom when I was 11 and think that academic boasting is a sack of shit.

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:42

I got a 'B' in English Lit 'o' level..Grin

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:43

usualsuspect the ex-BF's husband of which I just spoke is such a person. He actually scoffed at me for enjoying Catcher In The Rye and denounced it as "a Ladybird book for adults." Ha ha! The silly ponce is working as an assistant in a library now, filing books away*. Heady heights of which J.D Salinger could have only dreamed of scaling...

*Disclaimer: NOTHING wrong with his job. Just amusing to note that his ridiculous snobbery has got him nowhere fast. He really thought he was going to be the next big writer ten years ago.

usualsuspect · 21/03/2011 16:43

I have 3 O levels and a swimming certificate

I like Agatha Christie

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 16:43

Btw that wasn't boasting I was merely showing Bupcakes that education is irrelevant when you are referring to a taste in literature.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/03/2011 16:43

I got a sticker for my apple crumble in Year 8.

GetOrfMoiLand · 21/03/2011 16:44

I have an MEng and I am a board member of Mensa that is a lie and I read Heat magazine.

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:45

Well done usualsuspect...
Is it too early for a celebratory Wine?

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:45

No, LOTM, don't be a dingbat. I didn't say that it summed up that all people with a HE background bum J.C, rather that she has no demographic, like The Sun which you used as a comparison. I was trying to illustrate that your comparison was shit.

cakewench · 21/03/2011 16:46

Orange and chocolate is a vile combination.

LadyOfTheManor · 21/03/2011 16:49

Yes Cake! I agree.

usualsuspect · 21/03/2011 16:50

Cheers reeling Wine
I bet all those only like classics snobs readers ,have all got a secret stash of Mills and Boon

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:50

My child does my head in sometimes. There I said it.

usualsuspect · 21/03/2011 16:51

My children still do my head in sometimes and they are all grown up Grin

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:52

Only sometimes bupcakes?..

Mine are/were at lest once a day....

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:53

OK maybe I understated it a bit.

My child does my head in so much that sometimes I feel like painting him black and selling him to Angelina and Brad.

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:54

I think Wine in the afternoon is underrated.

reelingintheyears · 21/03/2011 16:54

HAHAHA...Grin

I hate 'lol' but lol.

YouTry · 21/03/2011 16:54

I love Jilly Cooper and Nancy Mitford. I am on my second copy of Love in a cold climate. Sometimes, if I am in a cafe or the doctors surgery I read The Sun or even The Mirror. I am very very clever Wink

Yup, my child does my head in too and she's only 4 months old. It's going to get much much worse, isn't it?

ambarth · 21/03/2011 16:54

That's every mother bupcakes. They don't all admit it though.

bupcakesandcunting · 21/03/2011 16:55

Agreed, reeling.

I am going to start making an artichoke and asparagus risotto shortly. I will be using the "a splash for me, a splash for the pan" method of adding the white wine Wink

Pagwatch · 21/03/2011 17:11

I think that if you shout repeatedly at a child who covers his ears and cowers you perhaps should re-think working out in the Mind charity shop.

Pagwatch · 21/03/2011 17:12

Arf.
Not working out.
That would be very strange. And there isn't that kind of room.......
